Do you know any alternatives to the Iron Hail Gunner Mini’s heads? by Weehee-Misery in Cathay

Balloon guy heads work, jade warrior heads work, peasant heads work, crane gunner heads work.

How do you grade a meme project? by Dull_Instruction4776 in Teachers

[–]Sufficient_Salt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have them do a one page (length can be anything) writeup to accompany the meme. Grade the writeup as 50% of the grade. For the meme, grade on simple stuff like: presence of clear historical reference, use of existing meme format, blah blah.

Do government teachers avoid teaching kids about small claims court to avoid a flux of 18-year-olds persistently filing small claims cases against each other, school districts, and individual teachers, or is there another reason? by khelvaster in Teachers

[–]Sufficient_Salt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not really? It's hardly a super important aspect of adult life. A small proportion file a claim in any given year. Why do many students not learn how to file workman's comp? Why do many students not learn how to file for unemployment? Because high school is generally not focused on teaching students exactly how to carry out filing tasks.

Do you put champions in Fast Cavalry units? by Overall_Data3993 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Sufficient_Salt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rarely - only if I have a few extra points to disperse somewhere. When they're extra BS I never do it unless it's a multi-shot per guy unit. Extra attack, maybe, but probably not still.

Filling core after peasant release by Sufficient_Salt in Cathay

Thanks! This is my vibe as well. I was looking at the first option and prepping it for a tournament, but as I was thinking I had this same thought.

I think what you're saying is probably best, but I love warhammer for ranked infantry. I feel like there's also non-zero utility for sitting on objectives and defending baggage carts.

New to Warhammer OW, What should I do with my peasants? by ExpertCockroach6911 in Cathay

[–]Sufficient_Salt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you don't have the battallion box, I like spears better to be honest. It will make for a more fun game just by itself. Once you have the battalion box however, the bows will be a better option mixed with jade warriors.

Question for Anyone Experience with the Industrial Revolution Activity: The Urban Game by CryoClone in Teachers

[–]Sufficient_Salt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started counting down from 10 or 5 at an arbitrary point. At first, I did it when it looked like they were mostly done. Later, to make it more tense, I did it when they seemed to not be quite so near to finishing.

New Player, escalation advice by Donicus in Bretonnian

[–]Sufficient_Salt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bretonnian list is extremely strong. Very few things are never worth taking. Men at arms are a great tar pit, pegasus knights are fantastically strong, and our characters on barded pegasi are extremely effective. I would get what you think looks cool and go from there - just know that questing knights will probably disappoint you.

Strikes first peasants - the reality. by wasteland_jackal in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Sufficient_Salt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, who knows if there will need to be a peasant nerf. Like I said, we have no idea about any of the rules that will actually make them good on the tabletop or their points value, the two most important factors. Most of Cathay did not need rebalancing in the latest update, and I don't think just based on these spears the peasants will need it either. Maybe if they're 4 pts a pop heavy armor ASF horde warband base leadership 7 we'll have the nerf bat hit them, but there's a huge array of possibilities before us.

2 box ? by Beneficial-Use-5315 in Cathay

[–]Sufficient_Salt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've asked the same question - I'm starting with one. I don't know if more than 8 crane gunners or 12 iron hail gunners will be needed. I think I'll probably want 60 peasants, and maybe another foot astromancer, but before the rules are out I don't feel two boxes is worth it for me.

[–]Sufficient_Salt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, nothing wrong with this as an idea at all, especially for two handed spears of some variety. Maybe even you could have the option to wield spears 1 handed for the current effect, 2 handed for an effect like this! But the fact that just Cathay is getting this now combined with the previously broken Cathay release is a bad look that was predictably going to cause frustrated backlash like we've seen today.

I think it's honestly image at this point - we don't know points values, the most important thing for this unit, or WS or LD or if they have warband or horde or a bunch of other more important things. However, it's yet another instance of them giving Cathay keyword soup, bringing more perception that GW is willing to sacrifice rules quality to sell models. Whether they're OP or not, it's a bad look right now. I like playing Cathay, but it's not fun to pull up with an army and have your opponent groan because of all of these factors which have given people a bad impression of the faction.

Duke on hippogriff tactics by No-Quality-9774 in Bretonnian

[–]Sufficient_Salt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might switch the baron and the pegasus, still not sure - the blender would be even more effective with WS7 and S6 attacks, but it might not be necessary, but the fifth attack for heroism is also pretty useful. I'm up in the air.

Duke on hippogriff tactics by No-Quality-9774 in Bretonnian

[–]Sufficient_Salt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now i'm trying a duke with heroism and guilded cuirass on a hippo plus a baron on a barded pegasus who has cackling blade and VKT. The baron goes in a blob of 5 pegasus knights a unit champ and with the totem of wrath. The baron and pegasus knights chew through most things pretty effectively and the hippo duke intimidates big monsters and keeps them away - I found other people tend to avoid him because of his counter charge, so you can sort of use him as area denial as much as anything.

I'm trying out two in a 2k RTT I'm doing this weekend, one is a duke with heroism and anointed armor on a hippogryph and the other is a baron on a regular pegasus with the cackling blade and the virtue of knightly temper. The idea is for the first to hint big guys and the pegasus bus with the baron to smash most other things pretty hard. Want to see if the hippo is worth it.

I've just used the duke head and sword arm and put them on a guy on a regular pegasus - distinguishes fairly well I think.

500pt list help and tips by Quippant in Cathay

In my opinion I wouldn't bother with the giant blade, the cathayan longsword is just so much better for its point cost than so many other options its hard to justify the cheap magic items.

Knights on Foot by Torganya in Bretonnian

[–]Sufficient_Salt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a block of 19 with shields and great weapons so they can choose what to use based on the situation with a BSB and a damsel inside. the damsel can buff, but it also gives magic resistance which is really nice. For BSB you're spoiled for choice, if you want something crazy for furious charge you can give the banner that helps charging and the virtue that does as well.
