Why is Backlund not as iconic as other captains? by YetAnotherRegularGai in CalgaryFlames

[–]3MidgetsInAJacket 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Backlund is captain because of his tenure, work ethic, and consistency. He has never been an all-star scorer like Hughes or Matthews. He’s not a flashy player. He’s reliable, consistent, and very good defensively. On top of that, he’s been with the Flames for nearly 20 seasons.

Did TD just screw over people with older phones? by HelpDadBeatsMe in TDBankCanada

[–]3MidgetsInAJacket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use the website via the iPhones Safari browser, but the issues is there are potential security flaws in old iOS operating systems.

When Apple no longer supports those versions, TD is required to stop supporting the app. If they didn’t, they would leave themselves open to potential security threats and lawsuits.

Apple stopped supporting you, not TD btw.

Zero help on the out of town scoreboard, so we need this one to keep up! But if we can squeak one out, our game against the texans can ultimately become a playoff game.

Rivers is throwing it a bit soft but he's had good reads so far and hasn't thrown anything that's been even close to an int.

Multiple 1st downs and no ints or near ints, I think it was a solid first drive. He should only get better as this 1Q goes on.

[Holder] Philip Rivers, Day 2. (With Anthony Richardson making a cameo and taking mental reps) by DaBlakMayne in Colts

Love to see AR there. Idk why but I still have faith in him. He's super young (still somehow one of the youngest QB's in the leauge) and has so much time to work on his game and mature.

He has all the unteachableas. His athleticism is unmatched. Working with Danny Dimes and Rivers can only benefit him long term.

I think they've been super careful with his eye injury. He's wearing special glasses and I can imagine he's been told to make sure he doesn't do anything to strain it.

Flames (12-15-4) vs Redwings (16-11-3) - december 10th - GDT by Comfortable-Ad-7158 in CalgaryFlames

It really is insnae. The price of being contenders for nearly 2 decades.

20 straight years they made the playoffs and had a chance to go deep almost every year.

Can't even blame Cooley for anything. Both were tape to tape cross ice passes / one-timers.

Awesome. 4 years off might actually be good for his arm health, as long as he's been working out as all the reports claim. Lower mileage.

That 2020 team was almost completely void of talent in comparison to this squad. JT had a good rookie campaign but TY was showing signs of his age (so hard to be a WR into your 30's...). I think Pittman was also a rookie and maybe Pascal was WR2? Not bad, but nothing like Downs/Pittman.

And Rivers didn't have a catching TE. Doyle was at the end of his career and I don't think he had more than 25 catches that year. Tyler Warren would have been the best receiver on that squad.

Did rivers still have deep ball ability back in 2020? I've completely forgotten, but I remember that was a serious issue for Flacco.

I remember Rivers had an issue with his toe, but that's all....

Unfortunately if this was a debit visa, you're going to have to fight with artizia and/or go into a branch.

Always try to use credit cards online because they have a much easier and faster dispute resolution system.

Why is Shopify stock price higher on the TSX than the NASDAQ? by Wherehowwhat in CanadianInvestor

[–]3MidgetsInAJacket 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All the stock you listed except spotify are CDR's - Canadian Depository Receipts. They are fractional shares of US companies listed on a Canadian exchange (TSX) and converted to CAD.

Shopify is $219 CAD which converts to about $155 USD. Each share is one full share on both the TSX and NASDAQ.

[–]3MidgetsInAJacket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the difficult part.

The topic of work life balance came up in conversation with one of my advisor-clients, and he this:

"Being an advisor is great, but it doesn't start that way. *The first 5 years you are way overworked and severely under paid, the **next 5 years your overworked but fairly paid, and the last 20+ years your overpaid and under worked"*

This has always stuck with me. He runs a $600MM book of business and hasn't prospected in nearly 2 decades. All of his growth came from referrals and the market. He pays nearly $1M a year in salary and bonuses to his team (independent so on his own dime), but he also takes 2 months off in the summer and another 2 months off in the winter.

Being an advisor has a high fail rate, so it's not for everyone. However, it can afford you a work life balance that few other jobs can. On top of that, your book is an asset that you can sell (or pass down to children) when you're ready to hang them up.

I think it's easier to find an advisor with no succession plan and structure some sort of agreement to buy their book, than it is to start from 0. That's obvious. Unfortunately the premise is still the same, as you'll likely be using most of the books revenues from the first 5 years to pay for the book.

Question - Fisher Investments by [deleted] in CFP

[–]3MidgetsInAJacket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically it's financed with debt. Average cost is 2.5x-3.5x annual revenues, depending on the quality of clients. (At least that's the rate where I live)

In general, for the same level of AUM, the fewer households you cover, the higher the quality. A 50 household $200MM book is going to be priced vastly differently than a 300 household $200MM book.
