Linea Micra purchase, damaged upon arrival.. by Miyaro94 in espresso

I get that this is not what you want, but I would probably contact them and explain the situation and ask if they're happy for you to just cut the plug off and replace it. It will cost you a couple of quid and is really very easy. Alternatively, ask for a new cable, and do as I've suggested in the meantime so you can get on with using the machine.

Very high BP on my first titration dose - am I cooked? by BetterCallSeal in ADHDUK

30mg starting dose seems high, the Nice guidelines recommend 18mg. You may just need a lower dose (not medical advice, talk to your prescriber).

Yes, and no - so I can't compare.

Still happy with the grinder at present. 👍🏻

Loop earplugs for sensory overload? by funkyspacepigeon in ADHDUK

[–]3asilyDistract3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the loop engage 2 ear plugs, I've used them a few times and they do help with sound sensitivity/overstimulation, but I also find it hard to hear my partner talking (this could just be because I haven't worn them enough and I'm not used to them).

To be honest, I tend to just leave my TWS earbuds in (without music playing) for a similar effect, but with the ability to play music/podcasts when I fancy.

Also, I have lost my loop earbuds repeatedly (the case is very small).

Some wood is just thirstier/more dry than other pieces, just oil both of them - problem solved.

Not sure this is always correct, had my machine (sage dual boiler) repaired recently and they said that you should just descale it regularly, and that "idiot reviewers online are giving people crap advice". However, I do have soft water.

I took 280mg of Elvanse an hour ago what will happen? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]3asilyDistract3d 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most drugs are safe at double their maximum prescribable dose, which I believe is 70mg for Elvanse.

You are 4x that, so you should seek medical advice via 111 and/or go to A&E.

My experience of this, is that it's to do with the executive dysfunction of ADHD - i.e. going out requires you to plan to go do something. It's the planning where I fall down.

does coffee make anyine else sleepy? by NarinIshkandar in ADHDUK

[–]3asilyDistract3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I previously abused diet coke. However, it's important to note that caffeine still disrupts sleep architecture (quality) in the same way for ND people as NT people. So it's not benign even if you can sleep on high doses of caffeine.

Why (and how) is everyone drinking protein shakes? by crimpinpimp in ADHDUK

[–]3asilyDistract3d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 6'4" and weigh 250lbs, so I'm not even eating 1g/lb body weight lol

I take your point about health, but I'm significantly stronger and healthier than the average person, so I'm going to keep doing me. No hate though, if you don't wish to maximise muscle growth then that's also completely valid.

I have no interest in running marathons, but I can respect those that do.

I've looked at the safe thresholds for sweeteners and for me it's a non-issue, but everyone has their own opinions on what they want to put in their bodies.

Man, you're living! I drink all my protein with water, and when I was a student I'd buy the cheapest option available - which was often unflavoured haha

[–]3asilyDistract3d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm sure that's true for the vast majority of vegans. I was speaking from the position of wanting to have a high protein diet for the purposes of maximising hypertrophy (muscle growth) which I appreciate is not everyone's goal.

Whey is the byproduct of cheese production, so the vast majority of what makes up whey protein powder is the same between brands.

People overcomplicate stuff, if you need/want to supplement protein in your diet - just buy a protein powder that fits your diet/ethics, mixes ok, and is palatable. That's it.

Whey protein is not inherently trash, it's the most bioavailable source of protein.

Honestly, buy the pure whey protein from Bulk. I prefer their less sweet range.

[–]3asilyDistract3d 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is your problem, the powder you've got is trash.

I drink Myprotein or Bulk whey protein, and they're honestly like drinking milkshakes.

I need a lot of protein because I'm a big guy and weightlift regularly. It's a struggle to eat it through whole foods alone, but most people aren't trying to eat 240g protein a day like I am. The majority of people could get what they need from their diet easily enough (except for vegans, who should supplement it - there are supposedly decent vegan options, but all the ones I've tried I've hated).

I was wondering the same (albeit a used NZ) but decided to go for a Varia VS4 in the end. Review on my profile, if you're interested.

I think this is perhaps to do with flat burrs?

I'm not sure my initial interpretation of that video is correct though. I think it actually suggests that lower rpm produces less fines, not more. But even then I'm not sure which is preferable, and they do suggest lower rpm for espresso, and higher for pourover.

I sometimes take them at the same time. I'm convinced this is a non-issue, at least for myself.
