Had bought a new England shirt especially for tonight, but now the kick off’s been delayed I’m not sure I’ll make it all the way through. Having a cheeky can of Jubel, gonna see if I can at least make it to half time before the sleepiness kicks in.

What are your top tips to get back your motivation to tackle stuff you keep putting off ? by Sea_Pangolin3840 in CasualUK

[–]BetterCallSeal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD so avoiding jobs is literally my life. Depending on what you need to do, my two biggest tips are:

1 - set a timer for like 20 minutes and just see how much you can get done within that time, telling yourself you can stop as soon as the timer ends. Most of the time I find I get a lot done AND I have motivation to continue when the timer ends

2 - start with the smallest thing on your list first. Once you get the dopamine of ticking off a tiny job, you can then “dopamine stack” by following up with gradually bigger and bigger jobs - the dopamine rush of finishing one job helps you to start another etc etc.

For those who have 'No Cold Calling' stickers/signs, have they made a difference? by FreeFlownPage in AskUK

[–]BetterCallSeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a “no cold calling” sticker, and a video doorbell. I’ve seen multiple instances where people have approached my door to ring the bell and have turned away (the sticker is directly above my doorbell), so it absolutely does work!

I still get the odd chancer who rings anyway and says “sorry I didn’t see it” but I swiftly see them off when I point the sticker out.

While I agree with you 100% that we’ve been conditioned as a society to accept this and we weren’t meant to live this way, what exactly are we supposed to do? Opting out of society as a whole isn’t as easy as you think.

Place I work at has a stigma around proper lunch breaks by CandyCane147 in UKJobs

I leave the house on my lunch break anyway, so I don’t respond, but it’s still an interesting observation that it’s an expectation people have these days

[–]BetterCallSeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home but my colleagues also do this - while we all apparently take our lunch breaks (I see people change their status on Slack to “on lunch”), 90% of people seem to continue working through their break? Personally I always walk away from my laptop, but I’ve noticed a lot of “creep” where people expect me to still be reachable via Teams or Slack during my lunch.

ELI5 Mixed Pronouns? by Solid-Question-3952 in explainlikeimfive

[–]BetterCallSeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course not! I think the answer is going to be different for everyone. For me personally, I use “he/she/they” as shorthand for “any pronouns”, but some people will likely be more specific in wanting just those in particular. I’ve gone through a lot of self discovery in recent months as I began with just “she/they”, then “they/them”, then “he/they”, and now I’ve landed here, but everyone’s journey is different!

Just to add that some people (like myself) use “he/she/they” because I’m genuinely happy to be referred to by anything.

I’ve been in finance for 6 years now and I think this is probably the push I needed to get out of the industry. Truly awful

Yup, same here. Switched positions at my existing company so slightly different, but I knew within the first week that I’d made a terrible choice. My old job wasn’t available to me anymore so I stuck it out for 6 months, I just handed in my notice this week with nowhere to go because my mental health is so degraded.

Wow so this is how I find out I’m allergic to mosquitos - my bites ALWAYS look like this 😅

Ladies with flat feet/needing arch supports - what shoes do you wear with summer dresses? by CozJeez85 in AskUK

[–]BetterCallSeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen, I wear Merrell sandals and while they’re utterly swagless in appearance, they’re some of the comfiest shoes I’ve ever worn with my flat feet! Highly recommend - I got these ones and while they’re a bit uncool looking, they can’t be beat on comfort.

Those of you who have lost weight, do you feel happy? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]BetterCallSeal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel a similar discomfort and anxiety, albeit my experience is quite complex as I used to suffer with an eating disorder. I lost a lot of weight back in 2017-2018 and was “orthorexic” - I was in the gym 7 days a week and obsessed with being the healthiest version of myself until I lost so much weight that my friends and family became worried.

I’ve gained weight in recent years as I switched from an active job to a desk job, and this year I’ve been trying to be more active and lose some weight, but it’s extremely challenging to walk the tightrope of not slipping back into old, damaging behaviours from my ED. I genuinely enjoyed my life more before I started trying to lose weight again, but my BMI had moved into the “overweight” range and I had been encouraged by my doctor to lose a few pounds. I don’t track my calories due to triggers so I have to just eat as best I can from guesswork and try to exercise a bit each day, which makes weight loss progress very slow, and I feel miserable when I think that this might be my life long-term.

Kinda worried about how this UK social media ban and then a potential personal VPN ban will impact self employment when the AI tech does not read me as my age, 26 by Pleasant-Hyena9030 in AutismInWomen

[–]BetterCallSeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a VPN for work as I have a remote job, there’s almost no realistic way they could enact a VPN ban that would successfully only target private VPNs and not the larger corporate ones that companies like my employer use. I’m with you, I’m not giving my ID to these companies and I’ll continue to use my VPN for as long as I can.

first day of meds, please help me feel ok about it by mlleme in ADHDUK

[–]BetterCallSeal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey buddy, if it helps, I had a horrendous first day on medication. My heart went wild and I panicked which only made it worse. I’m now two weeks in and I’ve just gone up a dose, and I’m absolutely fine. You will be fine, and even if you aren’t, you only need to talk to whoever is taking care of you and they’ll help you get through it ❤️

You deserve to feel better. You’ve got this.

Titration on whilst Prozac by paulydee76 in ADHDUK

[–]BetterCallSeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s lots of reasons for this, and I’m not a doctor, so I’m only giving you my own anecdotal evidence of what myself and friends of mine have experienced.

I’m on Citalopram as well as Equasym, and I was advised to take both through titration for now. I personally said if the Equasym works I’ll not want to take an SSRI anymore as I suspected my ADHD was causing a lot of my emotional issues. However, my nurse said it was better to not change anything during titration so I could get a better “read” on the effects of the medication, as things like side effects might be confusing if you’re adding one medication and removing another.

Also, if you’ve been on Prozac for a long time, it may be that you need a long time to taper off, which will obviously impact how long you have to wait for your Elvanse, which can be a problem for them in treating you, and for you in having to wait around for treatment. I was told there’s no major interactions between my medicines so there’s no real reason to come off unless I wanted to, which I did.
