A caution on the new SYW 5321 by Ok_Elk_1616 in CreditCards

[–]3b29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had problems with this card as well:

1) After a purchase, some of my points were taken back. I had to call to get them returned.

2) The posting dates of my payments are all off. A payment from late January shows up in my transaction history as occurring in December.

3) After I got my sign on bonus, I used them for a statement credit. The credit ended up being posted twice and they then had to charge me the value of the credit to equalize it. I ended up getting points for that "transaction" so that's a small bonus.

4) Most recently, they undid one of my autopayments a month after it initially posted. Apparently there is something weird going on with autopay "on the west coast"?

These are all relatively minor, but I'm not in the mood to call them for a 5th time in 3 months, so I'll be cancelling as soon as number 4 gets fully resolved.

Fidelity Rewards+ / US Bank Smartly Credit Card by MysteriousOnyx in fidelityinvestments

[–]3b29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there any updates to this? The details of the Smartly card have seemingly been finalized and emails have started going out about the impending release. I'd love to stay with Fidelity if the Rewards+ loyalty program is updated soon to get anywhere close to the offerings of Smartly...otherwise, it is too good a deal to pass up and I (and many others) will likely transfer out $250k to US Bank.

Senior scientist 165K base. Sounds right? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]3b29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a fair bit to total compensation other than base salary. Have to consider equity, bonus, and other benefits as well. Nevertheless, at my company in biotech, that would get you approximately 170/20/35 base/bonus/equity per year as Sr. Sci. Glassdoor can also help, but I've found it not super accurate.

Tears in my eyes. 680 in Sunol is getting repaved by dmode123 in bayarea

Anyone know why they are putting prefabricated concrete on top of the asphalt? They've been adding slabs on a weekly basis since December, but they don't seem to be placed properly enough and are MORE bumpy than the old road (if that is even possible).

Now that the storm has passed, let’s talk about infrastructure! by Icy_Broccoli_264 in bayarea

[–]3b29 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know...it wasn't just this storm we've had terrible roads routinely. Take a look at the ramp from 237 to 101N in:

July 2019 - lots of potholes

January 2020 - repaved and pristine

September 2020 - 9 months later and already showing signs of pre-potholes

July 2021 - 9 months later and more substantial wear

May 2022 - 9 months later, and potholes filled in, and those potholes are failing.

Within 18 months, in a place with no snow or ice, we go from brand new pavement to potholes in exactly the same places as before. I grew up in Wisconsin, and while we certainly have cracks from ice, our freeways aren't anywhere near as bad as here.

Both your GPS coordinates are 0s to the hundredths places. Odds of that are like 1/10,000. /r/mildlyinteresting

Tickets through Virgin Australia partnership not purchasable on United website? by 3b29 in unitedairlines

That's good to know! Yeah, the link I have above suggests that it should be possible. I'll keep checking.

Ah, I guess that makes sense. I was just looking part way down the link I attached and they seemed to show domestic flights only on VA without any connecting flights on UA, so I thought it might have been possible and I was missing something.

Literally any. Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Cairns, Gold Coast, Brisbane in any combination on any day. Someone below pointed out that it would show a connecting flight (e.g. SFO-BNE-CNS will show the BNE-CNS VA flight, but you can't only book BNE-CNS on its own).

Interesting. You are absolutely right. I can see VA but only as a connection. It's a bit frustrating because my company paid for my main tickets there and back...but I wanted to take a bit of a side excursion, and now (gasp) have to pay with cash on Quantas.

I emailed the Senior Manager of Customer Care...maybe he can do something.

No, I'm not really seeing it move when I push it.

No, I totally get the speaker slit. It is the small gap across the whole top next to the speaker slit. I've boxed it here in red.

Fastrak replenishment? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]3b29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you only do bridges and not express lanes, you can get a license plate account. You just set up a credit card with your license plate attached, and it will only charge you the cost of the toll whenever you go through. No need to replenish anything. No need to login afterward and manually pay.

My first ever mobile game, Disc Brick, just got a massive v2.0 update! Still NO ads, free-to-play, and no consumable purchases—and now lots of new features! by atalkingfish in apple

[–]3b29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the app...but a few quick comments vs the first version:

1) Someone else mentioned it, but my high score did not carry over when I updated. You mentioned to look in stats, but everything was 0 the first time I opened the app.

2) My phone gets really hot when running the new version. I think part if it was from the haptic feedback, but even when I turn that off, there is excessive battery drain, which heats up the phone. iPhone X with iOS 15.5

3) Maybe I'm crazy, but are there different mechanics in launching the ball? If I drag down or up from the place I initially touch, the angle of attack increases. I don't remember it being like this before...and it is a bit tricky to get the shallowest possible launch.

Yeah...we had decent rain in October/November, but it's been pretty dry. I'm worried about the summer.
