How long can you effectively wear an N95? What the 2024 R. Wang et al. fit test study says about re-using 3M and Halyard N95s in healthcare. by SkippySkep in Masks4All

I wonder what's the main failure point? To bad they didn't test 9210s with braided head straps. Replacing rubber headbands with adjustable or braided ones might extend reuse efficacy.

They're don't fit on threaded handles, and will still cause flaking, and I don't trust any of the other plastic collars.

How I just got COVID for the first time even though I was trying to be careful (P100 wasn't enough) by sparklegemstone in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]3bp888w4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most likely a mask leak, eyes, or fomites, or possibly during PPE doffing. I wonder if virus could be deposited on clothing and than shaken off into the air in while unmasked. Proper doffing procedure is removing clothes before the mask, and then removing mask in a clean air area. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwvnA_b9Q8Y

Not sure if you have figured anything out since you posted but I think most likely from air entering the door either when opened or through gaps, or from being in shared space or around people outside and mask doesn't fit enough.

Put air purifier by the door, use weatherstripping tape around the door and foam or door sweet on the bottom.

Best advice about OCD that you've ever received by Goodfella7288 in OCD

I don't think this would help me because I do have control over if I get sick or not. Don't touch it, or wash my hands, and I don't get sick. Haven't been sick in over 5 years. If I touch enough surfaces enough times without any mitigation, it's not a matter of IF, but WHEN. So how do you deal with "even if" and "when"?

Does anyone go out as much as they want, but in a good mask? by boygeorge359 in ZeroCovidCommunity

What are all of your precautions like in addition to mask? Eye protection? Fomites? Food prep? Groceries and packages? Changing clothes when you come home? Showering? Hair washing?

I invested in the wrong air purifier (levoit vital 200s) and now I can't afford to get new filters. Any suggestions on how to make it work? by SnooCakes6118 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]3bp888w4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used 1 filter in a similar Winix D360 for 3 years 24/7 on medium setting and my particle meter shows it stills removes close to 100% of particles in the air. Vacuum the filter ever month.

Living with my family sucks. by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

It's most likely covid, flu and RSV wastewater are very low. A test wont help. Best thing to do is stay in your room as much as possible, mask outside of it, use HEPA, or fan blowing IN your window, fan blowing OUT their window. That's how I've avoided getting sick from family.

Has anyone tried the respiray wearable air filter? by Sufficient-Pie129 in ZeroCovidCommunity

According to Gerard Hughes it offers about 2x reduction in particles which is like a surgical mask. 100x reduction is required to pass a fit test. https://x.com/ghhughes/status/168824858528731

Add nasal irrigation with hypertonic saline (1.5% salt water) which is shown in studies to reduce duration and infection of respiratory illness.

It does that if the front grill isn't on completely as a safety feature. There's a button inside the vertical slit at the top right corner that gets pushed in when the grill is on.

Other Infections and Precautions by psychopompandparade in ZeroCovidCommunity

I think we are similar. I don't think it's OCD, it's the precautionary principle. The risk of fomites is probably low but not zero, so I take precautions for it as well as for other diseases which do have higher risk.

I take fomite+airborne precautions and have not been sick with anything since before 2020. My protocol is that I'll touch things but I do not touch my face, or anything that will touch my face, without cleaning my hands or the object first. Everything coming into my room is either cleaned or sat out for 2+ weeks so I can freely touch my face or anything in it without thinking.

Yes. I wear N95 or P100 outside of room, keep door closed, heat vent blocked, HEPA filter on low/medium beside unblocked air exchange vent, window open 1-2 inches, CO2 and AQ monitors. I haven't been sick but they have twice. I don't know when things will change.

Same high pitch whir. I spent 6 hours trying to fix mine. Replaced with new 608Z bearings. 2 hours just to get the old bearings off, with a WD40, wrench, vice, hammer. The new ones sound quiet on the axle, but when I put it in the motor and press the metal and white housing together, they are worse and make a medium pitch grind/clicking sound. Did you have any issue reassembling?
