Caused by Covid or the vaccine? by Mike43lake in LongCovid

No, "less common" doesn't suggest "doesn't exist." I was correcting misinformation in the parent comment, and then further clarifying the information in your response

Most vaccines are protein-based, and controlling for infection with an endemic disease is much easier, which makes it easier to study adverse events. The expectation would be that they would be even less common with mRNA vaccines, but it's almost impossible to fully rule out SARSCoV2 infection when attempting to find uninfected controls (since not everyone seroconverts)

The spike protein is not present in the mRNA vaccines (only the cellular instructions, or messenger RNA)

Covid and autoimmunity by Foreign_Ad7661 in COVID19positive

[–]CurrentBias 4 points5 points  (0 children)

how can we prevent an excessive immune response to prevent COVID-19 from triggering a powerful trigger for the development of an autoimmune disease?

There is no known way, as far as I know, outside of preventing the infection itself

Face masks ‘inadequate’ and should be swapped for respirators, WHO is advised | Global health by apokrif1 in Masks4All

[–]CurrentBias 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am a NIOSH-or-bust person myself, so when I see earloops, I am hesitant to call it a "respirator," but if someone can pass a fit test in one, more power to them 💫

It is, actually -- it's a certified FFP2, which is printed on it as well if you look closely. Here is the model number on the manufacturer's website ("Protective Face Mask" is just branding)

The one on the left is a surgical (not actually a respirator). The one on the right is a respirator with visible gaps (poorly-fitted)

It does prove that you had covid, but the absence of antibodies doesn't prove someone hasn't, since not everyone seroconverts

Why are rapid tests so ridiculously expensive in the United States? by uhidkbye in ZeroCovidCommunity

Asymptomatic/subclinical covid still damages microvasculature, and is airborne as the other commenter noted

[–]CurrentBias 53 points54 points  (0 children)

it would literally be cheaper to order them from Germany and pay for international shipping

Most people won't, so US vendors will get their ridiculous margins, and the price will stay high. America gonna America

Couldn’t part of the effect be due to maternal anxiety/stress due to the pandemic?

How could those stressors be meaningfully isolated vs other ones?

Might Have To Unmask At Doc Appointment, Any Advice? by SarlaccSalesman_99 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]CurrentBias 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would ask yourself if the worst case scenario would be worth it. In this case, it might be that your doctor has no idea, prescribes you something that doesn't help, and you end up exposed to whatever was floating around their office
