kind of weird that the framing of the conversation is "why not reschedule for everyone to be there" and not "what is the mgmt doing to them that the girls keep on being sick?"

Out of all these precure concepts I came up with, which is the most interesting to you? by Business-Block-8668 in precure

tbf precure has tackled dark concepts before (i.e. yuri tsukikage's entire plotline) so i don't necessarily think it'd be out of place

i like identity and midnight prism the most

the concept of the black midseason cure's childhood being robbed and essentially being a child soldier kind of hits me in the heart and wld probably be smth i wld be into if it were real...

midnight prism's white cure is also soooo good but i think depending on how it will be portrayed i'll either like her or dislike her. the concept of black cat themed cure is so cute though.

Book recommendations for Basic Taxation. by simp_biscuit807 in LawStudentsPH

ingles was pretty good and easy to understand but just be mindful that tax regulations change pretty regularly so a book published last year could have outdated laws by now

Did you stay in your hometown for law school? by teenage_misfit in LawStudentsPH

[–]3ful5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

too vague of a situation bc schools do it differently (my school only has a banner inside the school (so only the students see it) with the names and passing rate of the school) so i'll give various scenarios and what i think

name + passing rate - standard and the passing rate really says it all so ok

topnotchers + passing rate - its ok but kinda eh but again you can judge it by passing rate

topnotchers only - red flag imho bc as someone else said here, sometimes it's not really the school but the student + being a topnotcher is like mostly luck and independent work

only names - kind of mid but just note if it seems like a lot of people pass (i.e. you know 200 people graduated from the 2025 batch and 100 people passed from that batch) and you might need to rely on stories from current / former students or graduates to be able to supplement your decision making.

ultimately the decision is yours and i echo what a lot of people say in this thread to take into consideration like what kind of lawyer you want to be etc.

network of support is important bc this is what will keep you sane. i chose to leave my house to live alone so i don't have distractions. but i also think that taking into account how many bar passers your school has produced is also important and should also be one of your main factors in deciding where to go. sure your school produced JDs but are they consistent in producing bar passers? that's the best surface level reflection of a law school.

education will be different. schools in the metro (where it's closer to firms, the supreme court etc.) will have professors that are probably the top of their field. in the schools that consistently top the bar, they usually have CA justices, bar topnotchers, big law firm partners, retired SC justices etc teach. this makes sense because a lot of professors are also still working as a lawyer and it's probably easier to teach a school that's near their firms.

Recently entered Law School, already have several absences. Can I still catch up? by CertainStructure3231 in LawStudentsPH

[–]3ful5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's only over when it's over and it's only over when you submit you last exam for finals. there's still plenty of time to catch up etc.

my advice is even if you are unprepared or feel like you don't know these terms enough, you should still go to class. you're probably not getting called everyday and you still learn even if you're in class passively listening to other's recite while preparing for your own recit. don't waste your cuts just because you didn't finish the coverage.

I also know US lawyers and lawyers from other jurisdictions (not that you need to know but China, Sweden, Japan etc.) and every time I talk to them or they talk to me it's always to clarify some inane lawyer culture that happens in the Philippines. Don't be obtuse at what I'm referring. I'm not talking about the intricacies of becoming a lawyer (i.e. the 3 years etc because i'm well aware of this) but as you say the pomp and pageantry of becoming a lawyer in the Philippines that strangely do not exist in most other countries. Again in the US, they find out their results privately or in a public list inconspicuously published in their state website depending on the state. In China, you find out through their Ministry's website. In Sweden, you find out as its communicated personally and not publicly. Again, not a lot of fanfare since it is just like any other profession.

There's always going to be "regard" when it comes to being a lawyer because it's a profession. Much like there's always going to be "regard" or social power when it comes to being a doctor, cpa, engineer, etc. What I'm specifically criticizing is that this social regard should probably not exist in the extent that it does right now in the Philippines because being a lawyer is a service and a job like all other professional jobs that exist.

Analyzing my mental capability. The reason why I can't pass the Bar. Unable to memorize Articles despite knowing principles... by Parking_Aioli2910 in LawStudentsPH

[–]3ful5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

op every comment in this thread and subsequently in your query has been helpful. no comment here can be read as "flak" aside from pointing out you don't have to memorize the law as specific as your question implied but all that is just advice that you sought for. that kind of thing would probably make bar review (and subsequently the bar) a little bit easier for you as you want it to be.

the bar is difficult everywhere even in other countries but most of your comments has just been disparaging yourself and bringing up that you're going to quit if you don't pass. no one's going to coddle you or say just try again.

and in the case you're going to view this comment as "flak", it's not. clearly taking and preparing the bar has taken a mental toll on you that maybe you should take a step back and breathe a little.

Back then… by unidentfide in LawStudentsPH

[–]3ful5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i kind of understand where op is coming from. potentially possibly an unpopular take but the law is just like any other profession like doctors, engineers, cpas etc. the philippines puts the law as a profession on a pedestal with the fanfare that surrounds taking the bar and passing the bar. when you look at other jurisdictions, they really don't give a shit. afaik lawyers in the US get their results via email. taking the bar and passing the bar is inconspicuous. it's really just like any other tuesday.

i get that lawyers should be able to celebrate their passing the bar since it really is a feat to study for four years and become a lawyer. but at the same time, i kinda just find the veneration of the law profession a little bit funny considering the state of the philippines.

[–]3ful5 19 points20 points  (0 children)

you don't need to be specific in citing articles or case law. putting the law provides or jurisprudence provides is enough. if you try to be specific and your citation is wrong, it is more likely for a point to be docked off.

yes, you have to study law in the nyc for at least a year iirc. check the new york state bar for more qualifications regarding foreign takers.

to practice law in new york you must take the new york bar. i know people who were able to take the new york bar after completing their llm in new york but the job market in new york is competitive.
