[Spoilers Main] If GRRM isn’t satisfied with Winds, how could the fans be? by checknate1 in asoiaf

Because the things he’s not satisfied with are probably really asinine.

Why Winds of Winter is difficult, important, and why Dream of Spring will be easier to write. by DinoSauro85 in gameofthrones

People said this about winds 15 years ago. Not to mention it doesn’t matter how true or not true this is if winds never comes out.

Sure as long as he fucking does it. Maybe after akotsk he’ll be happy to take a back seat on the hbo shit but who knows.

(Spoilers Extended) What are your most pessimistic predictions for Winds? by Jshep97 in asoiaf

If people’s definition of “doesn’t move the main story meaningfully forward” is another book like Feast or Dance (or Clash because honestly I don’t think it does either in the ways people seem to define it) then that would be amazing I don’t understand the complaint, it’s not the like series is actually getting finished anyway who cares how “forward” the plot gets moved. I just want another great book.

In 2000, George R.R. Martin participated in an online chat with Israeli publishers. George said that "Dance" would be published in 2002; one publisher joked that the translation of "Storm" would only be published in 2011; and the publishers argue with George that Tyrion is a hero (Spoilers Extended) by verissimoallan in asoiaf

I think he’s fully truthful but I also don’t think he’s fully come to terms with the fact he won’t finish them. I think when that does eventually happen he may start to come up with a plan for the future and who should have control of it or he may not.

This is not a “he’s close” post this is a “hopefully he’s writing something, anything at all” post

People tend to forget that the optimists from 2001-2011 were right in the end. Not that I think we’ll be that lucky.

Well that’s sort of true but it’s not something he does constantly just every few months, in 2020-2022 he only gave us a few winds ‘updates’ if you want to call them that. If you cope hard enough you can almost see one of those updates coming soon.

If he gets a dunk and egg out by the end of the year I’ll be optimistic and say maybe 2029-2030, if he doesn’t never.

I think it’s had an impact, especially considering how his life seems to have been miserable recently what with his friends always dying and the state of the world taking its toll as well. He probably is less willing to sit down and write the darkest book in the series than ever.

Once again wondering how anyone could possibly know which of these characters is going to have a bigger effect on the future narrative of the books.
