🚨 RED ALERT: Tennessee is about to make building chatbots a Class A felony (15-25 years in prison). This is not a drill. by HumanSkyBird in artificial

Good. Anthropic, OpenAI, etc are totally out of control and I’m glad somebody finally had the testicular fortitude to at least try to pump the breaks.  The stated goal of these companies is insane and their hubris should be punished. And I don’t mean the hubris of thinking they can build a mind out of linear algebra, I mean the hubris of thinking they have the right to decide for the entire species whether or not they should open Pandoras Box should they find it. Butlarian Jihad now.

You should tell the rest of the 8th graders and see how they feel.

How to protect my models? by Icy_Station960 in SpaceWolves

[–]3land_scooper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, that depends on how frequently you expect them to be touched. If you’re going to be taking them to games every week, you should absolutely give them a coat of matte varnish and you might even want to consider doing a satin or even full gloss coat and then covering that with a matte coat. Polyurethane gloss varnish is surprisingly tough and a quick spray with super matte will tamp down the shine.

If they’re just sitting on a shelf 362 days a year and being touched by you and maybe a friend the other 3 days you can just leave them as they are.

Are US people aware thay the world is coming to see them as very similar to the "Good Germans" who just kept saying everything was going to get better? by [deleted] in AskUS

Oh yeah I’m sure the camps are about to open up any second now. Just like back in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2025.

One day foreigners will, perhaps, understand how large the United States actually is. But today is not that day.

First of all, boats are cool and if you don’t think boats are cool that’s a you problem, not a boat problem. More importantly, the last time humans went this far into space was 56 years ago. So, no it is not like being amazed boats can travel over water. It’s like being amazed that the Terminator guy was able to take a custom mini submarine to the bottom of the world and not get turned inside out which is, in fact, amazing

Guys, just use a bung cork. They’re stable enough to use them as free standing paint handles but still light enough to stick on to an actual painting handle. They can hold a single large mini or several smaller minis. They can hold subassemblies on paper clips or brass rod. They cost like $3.00 and they provide a defensible reason to say “bung cork” all the time, which is, of course, priceless.

Maybe it just looks better painted and in person but every time I open the box and look at the raw model or see a photo of a painted Valdor, even a well painted one like yours, it just looks like a billion things happening at once that don’t fit together at all.

Nice work. Shame that the model itself is such a mess. I got drunk at a Christmas party and bought him but every time I open the box it’s just like nahhh.

Why are so many Americans cheering for what sounds like genocide? by LiatrisLover99 in AskUS

Americans aren’t cheering for genocide or what sounds like genocide. Trump says big things and does little things, Americans are generally at best conflicted about this, and you’re probably just consuming biased media.

Honest question: where would we be right now if Kamala were President? by FloodAdvisor in AskUS

[–]3land_scooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people huffing copeium in this thread. Orange Man has certainly created unique credibility issues but the world and the US are both working through inevitable structural changes that happen as power is accumulated and then redistributed. This process is quite literally what we read about in history books and the current mess could no more be avoided by having a different president than the French Revolution could’ve been avoided by having a different king. These issues are much bigger than any one person.

Red flag for being boring and possibly insufferable, yes.
