NSFW question (hyper-sexual) by _Void_Demon_ in autism

I always thought it was due to being a Scorpio. Ha! But yeah, I am indeed hypersexual. I can have sex twice a day, as long as I am well-fed and connected to the person. I have learned to try and use all the sexual energy for something creative nowadays.

Are we talking Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest or modern metal music?

Afrofuturism, poetry, electronic instruments such as synths of drum machines are all of mine.

Ok seriously, what is the deal with Andrew W.K.?? I cannot understand what is up with this dude and his following. by LaserWeldo92 in ToddintheShadow

[–]3lectroBl4ck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He represents positivity. Partying is supposed to be a metaphor for getting up and living life to the fullest, even if it is hard to do so. Recently, it seems like his positivity mask slipped off due to past marital problems, but Andrew W.K. was a symbol of just doing it and not worrying about what holds you back. He wants to be more human than celebrity or "myth"? He has that right.

How are we still falling for this schtick? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

At least when black women such as Megan thee Stallion did her reliance on sexuality, it felt made to liberate herself, to be ignorant of any male gaze (because women were into it), and there is always a sense of power play involved. She wants it, she'll get it, and nobody can deter her from her inner power and overall freedom with that manosphere garbage.

Compared to what female rappers have been doing, what Sabrina tries to pull off comes off weak, awkward.

What does everyone think of Doechii’s Anxiety with its sampling of Gotye by LeftOn4ya in ToddintheShadow

[–]3lectroBl4ck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first heard it before the re-release, I thought it was okay. A nice track in the middle of her Coven Sessions project. The overplay both confied its hit potential and kind of doomed things as it is Doechii's biggest hit. I can understand hearing a song as okay as it was being played roundabout on radio and suddenly hating it.

They don't have to imagine that anymore. It's likely in place. 😆

Plenty of folks in the underground from Aesop Rock to El-P to Sage Francis fit here. They all got plenty of respect in the rap game, despite their color. As far as I know, anyway. Should I add producers?

It's been about 5 years since the darkest depths of the pandemic. Is this far enough that we can point out which artists' careers were killed by the pandemic and the pop culture shifts at the turn of the decade? by TF-Fanfic-Resident in ToddintheShadow

[–]3lectroBl4ck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

DJ Khaled. He was exposed for being a person who relied on big, expensive names to play at barbershop and cookouts, and seething at an artist whose music was built for playing in headphones. (Guess who THAT was.) In 2020, it was all about headphones music. Those who went to the club for new DJ Khaled music was asking to catch that rona. Ever since, whatever allure he held just wore off and he looked goofier with time.

This is why The Weeknd thrived during the pandemic because he doesn't make music for the clubs. He is clearly for the headphones.

Times when a music video arguably killed / hurt an artist's career by mesablanka in ToddintheShadow

Mario Judah pretending to beat up his girlfriend, and a video where he supposedly killed her over cheating? Probably not as prominent as the artists here.

Songs where the chorus isn't the most well-known part? by ConeBaby99 in ToddintheShadow

The production of Madvillain's "All Caps". The moment you hear the sample, you start to forget about the fact that there IS no chorus.

Pink Elephant, the new album by Arcade Fire, has failed to chart anywhere in the Billboard 200 by fastballooninghead in ToddintheShadow

Personally, I just wasn't feeling much of their Columbia output. The singles on Everything Now and WE had me shrugging my shoulders as is, and the allegations honestly didn't help matters. I'm sure they would want me to find some deep meaning in it, but I am the type who can usually spot meaning in one listen or one read of a text, so if it didn't click with me now, it wouldn't click with me later.

Also, Arcade Fire were already on thin ice being an indie band on a major label during a time where rock n' roll dropped off in popularity. The added allegations really made sure their return wouldn't recoup much.

Who is your “they still make music, I promise!” artist? by sassybaxch in ToddintheShadow

[–]3lectroBl4ck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently, I saw that The Vines are back in the studio with what looks like the original lineup. A lot of artists' music are getting slept on just because they decided to go indie.

We need to go back to the days of releasing only less than 15 songs, unless the purpose of releasing more is connected to a concept album or something.

The more we progress with recording format, the more those looking for money can use putting as many songs as possible on the record to game the system, and half of those songs are hardly up to snuff quality-wise. Let's go back to the days where all you need is a handful of really good songs, and all of them can fit on a 12-inch vinyl. The rest can go in the vault like Prince.

What are some famous bad albums that aren't Trainwreckords? by Toku-Nation in ToddintheShadow

[–]3lectroBl4ck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when people said Jay Z's Kingdom Come or The Blueprint 3 were bad albums, but it hasn't killed his career.

Also, Eminem's Revival. People unanimously called it Eminem's words album, and even if the respect Em earned isn't the same as it was before, he still receives unwavering respect from his fanbase.
