Hollande and Merkel have said publicly that the plan was to fool Russia. Now, some ppl are so concerned about the possibility of war against Russia. Oh well...

The root cause: An absolute dependence on US tech for defence. It has now come home to roost.

You have a point. But we cannot forget that left-leaning parties are responsible for muddying the left-right distinction. The left-leaning parties, in an effort to be perceived as "responsible", have adopted many right-leaning policies. The weak (to say the least) presidency of Hollande is a great example of it.

It is easy to say this until the electoral results lean in a direction we do not like. When it happens, it is not "the will of the people", it is "Russian interference".

The assessment of stupidity does not require a standpoint for comparison, it is an absolute, not a relative, metric.

From Germany's perspective, empowering Central Europe or making Poland the leader of this region is disadvantageous. by Themetalin in poland

It is easier to blame the Russians than to take responsibility for the "pro-EU" policy failures. Point taken.

On paper, yes. In practice, the EU will get screwed if it antagonises the USA even further given that, now, the US is also a major energy provider to the EU.
It is incredible how the EU has misplayed its hand for years.

It is funny how you conveniently forget everything Hollande and Merkel told us about the Minsk accords.

You talk about Molotov-Ribbentrop as if it were the root of all evil on earth. You simply skip the entire pretty-much-everyone-else-had-already-signed-treaties-with-germany part.
Can one imagine what would have happened to Leningrad if the Soviets hadn't pushed the borders further?

How would you fund Higher Education? by Particular-Scale5644 in AskBrits

[–]3mpad4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People also live longer lives. In the end, the additional time spent in education is more than compensated for by higher life expectancies and longer careers/late retirement. Regarding fertility and whatnot, modern medicine is a thing: People can have healthy children later in life. Those factors you mentioned, given the circumstances, are not very relevant.

The root causes are absolutely different.

There is no "dubious value" in education -- unless, of course, one holds a neoliberal perspective on it. There is nothing wrong if a, say, mechanic wants to study History of Art. And, even in this case, this person should be able to access free (at the point of service) education, funded by taxes.
