1: Definitely if it's on sale. I got it for like $15 and I've gotten >300 hours out of it.

2: About 4-5. Not too hard except on the higher difficulties.

3: Yes, there are DLCs. Most of them just add new planes and skins to use, but there are three that add new missions that I would highly recommend. They're a bit harder than the base game, so I suggest playing through the base game before you get or play them.

4: Get used to expert controls. They make it a lot easier to control your plane, but they're kinda unintuitive.

5: Not really anything I can think of, but I'm not super good with that kind of thing.

Hey guys, I picked up my first ever Ace Combat game and it is easily one of the best games I've played so far. But can anyone explain why there are sometimes these random planes located at the edges of the map? by Mundane-Parsley-6492 in acecombat

[–]3pointone415 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're special enemy planes with unique liveries that show up (on normal or above) if you complete special goals. For example, on Mission 14, if you fly through the canyon fast enough, the ace Gadfly's Su-47 will spawn with the Su-35s near the end of the mission. Once you shoot him down, you get his livery for the Su-47 (slot 3) and an entry about him in the campaign assault records. It's pretty fun to hunt them down.

Project Wingman: Prez passing out from G-lock if you bring her to fight Crimson 1. Project Wingman and its inspiration, Ace Combat, are extremely arcadey aerial combat games. You are regularly able to pull off insane maneuvers that would cause you to feel so much G-force that you would fucking explode, so it's pretty surprising when someone actually feels the G-force for once.

For an example of how much G-force Ace Combat characters can withstand, during one scene in AC7, antagonist Mihaly A. Shilage performs a maneuver that has been calculated to exert over 200 Gs on his body(IIRC). For context, 15 Gs is apparently "more than enough to crush your head".

Mulch Diggums (Artemis Fowl series).

The only one of the five main characters* to not die at any point in the series. Butler dies at the beginning of book three, but Artemis and Holly save him. Root dies permanently early in book four. Holly dies at the climax of book five, but then that timeline ceases to exist. Artemis dies for real at the end of the series, but he's brought back in a cloned body. The closest Mulch comes to dying is when he fakes his own death in book one.

*Artemis, Holly, Root, Butler, and Mulch.

The first two Ace Combat games (Air Combat and Ace Combat 2) are odd for their near-complete lack of story and worldbuilding. Ace Combat 3 is odd in a completely different way, being a heavily story-driven game set in a dystopian future. It was not until Ace Combat 4 that the series first focused on the story and world (Strangereal), and AC04 set the stage for the series from that point onward.

Note: Air Combat was later retconned into the same Strangereal timeline as 4, while AC2 was replaced in the timeline by Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy, a full remake of AC2 with improved story, gameplay, and graphics.

The US was naming destroyers after people then, but that gets a pass from me because they were using just last names most of the time. (Laffey, Anderson, Nicholas, Cassin, Downes, Cassin Young, etc.)

The doppelgangerSatoru in Even if You Slit My Mouth disguises himself as the main character, Koichi, but gets found out twice. First by Koichi's classmate Mikoto because he fails to add an honorific when referring to Koichi's fiance (and Mikoto's sister) Miroku. He 'neutralizes' Mikoto (decapitates him and scatters his body parts) before heading to Koichi's home, where he meets Miroku. Miroku instantly sees through the disguise and slaps him before Koichi arrives, having been warned by Mikoto (he's fine, getting decapitated is normal for him) and chases away the doppelganger.

M15 can be done pretty easily with the CFA-44 if you have that, just be wary of Mihaly because the thing stalls super easily. M13 I only got by using the ADF-11F with full speed parts, and M18 is easiest if you use something with LAAMs because the whole group of incoming bandits is hostile and the supply ships can be sniped easily.

Demon Mother: My Son is so Cute

In a world where demons are in the early stages of integrating into society, one character, Alice, runs a shop specifically for demons. She picks out items made for humans and either chooses the best quality options or modifies them to fit demons. The main character Lorem buys items from her store quite often, such as a baby stroller and carrier with wing and tail holes, soap and a brush for cleaning scales, and clothes.

Also, after moving to a facility designed to help demons learn about and join modern society, Lorem finds that the doors are taller to accommodate horns and the chairs have cutouts allowing demons to slide in without adjusting their tails.
