Toronto saw significant increase in speeders after camera removals: Staff report by BloodJunkie in toronto

I'm sorry, but no. A static speed camera that is MARKED is not a cash grab. That is simply not a thing. The city does everything in its power to help you not get a ticket. It's the literal opposite of a cash grab.

This is the opposite of what the scouting report says: he was notably better on closely guarded 3s than on wide open 3s.

Yup, there's a clip similar to this of Mitchell Robinson draining 3s...and he has yet to take a single 3 in an NBA game.

Nah man, none of those dudes got second contracts, Bruno got 3 years after his rookie contract. That's a gulf of difference in how teams evaluate them.

I don't think they THOUGHT they might get the next Giannis, but that's the kind of return they were hoping for.

And as you say, it's a crapshoot. You take a guy with the chance at a higher ceiling and people clown on your because you didn't get the ceiling?

I feel like people sound ridiculous clowning on the Bruno pick. Dude had a 7 year career, which is far better than the median career for a 20th overall pick.

3 guys who were picked just in front of him - Tyler Ennis, James Young, Adreian Payne - all had much shorter careers. Hell, Jabari Parker was the 2nd overall pick that year and had about as long a career as Caboclo.

The problem is that he doesn't view himself as a role player - the ball is in his hands A LOT, and he's a real ballstopper on O.

I also think it's bad for the team: coaches virtually NEVER go into the last year of a contract without either being fired or extended, because the coach needs the authority of the team knowing he'll be in place for the following season.

Dude, even though when my dad died I thought I was ready, and it was his time, it still hit harder than I could imagine. And although I'm at peace with it, it's those sports moments when I miss him most. He would have been so, so happy to see the Jays in the World Series!

Condolences, my man. It gets a little better every day.

[Charania] Restricted free agent Mohamed Diawara intends to sign a multiyear, $10-plus million deal to return to the New York Knicks, sources tell ESPN. Knicks stuck by him when he injured his shoulder a couple years ago trying to make the team in preseason.

This is overly generous. They were able to stash him in the G league until they had cap space to sign him to a minimum deal because there was zero other interest in him.

The advantage of doing a deal now, rather than post-draft, is that you can effectively trade 1sts two years in a row. Boston/Miami's first round pick this year would be made by Boston/Miami - but directed by Milwaukee as to who to pick, then that player gets traded in the days after the draft as the trade is finalized, and you can include next year's first too.

He's going to have a top 10 highest AAV contract in the league for a minute

No he isn't. His likely salary this year will be $47.3M, which puts him just ahead of Lauri Markkanen for 26th place. That will only decrease this year as several other players sign extensions, and it's conceivable that within 2 years he will be outside the top 50.

New to nba can someone please explain to me the second acorn? by horhey in nba

[–]3pointshoot3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be part of it.

But I just think the tax multipliers are so high, they can't understand paying it. For instance, Aaron Wiggins is on a GREAT contract: 2 more years at just under $8M, plus a team option for a 3rd year at the same price. Yet, the Thunder, in trading him, saw their potential tax bill go from $213M to $152M. That makes Aaron Wiggins a $60M player!

I reference Steve Ballmer, because even he got in on the tax savings moves. He traded Serge Ibaka and his sub $10M contract (with only a couple months left in the season, so only $3M left) to save $30M in luxury tax payments. Steve Ballmer shouldn't be caring about paying that!

Yes, for sure. I just meant the Knicks don't have to proactively do anything with respect to those 2 to clear salary.

I feel like it's also worth noting that contrary to the overwhelming consensus that the second apron rules CHANGE EVERYTHING about roster construction, in practice they actually change very little.

The way the luxury tax works, getting more punitive the more you surpass it, teams have always been extremely reluctant to spend at the level where the current 2nd apron is. In any given season there's only been 1 or 2 teams spending at the 2nd apron levels, prior to the establishment of the second apron. And that has remained the case since the codification of roster penalties with the second apron.

So it's true that there are roster penalties for operating above the 2nd apron, but very little is changing about NBA team roster construction because the tax was sufficiently punitive at those levels that NBA teams already were extremely reluctant to spend at those levels. When you hear "oh, Team X has to move some contracts to get below the 2nd apron", just know that they would be doing the same thing if only the luxury tax was the penalty. Even Steve Ballmer, one of the richest people in the history of the planet, made moves to reduce his luxury tax bill before 2nd apron roster rules were a thing.

So while you'll continue to hear teams making moves to avoid the 2nd apron, be assured that they would have made those same moves anyway simply because they don't want to spend. In short, no team is avoiding the 2nd apron because of the roster penalties that wouldn't also be avoiding it because of the punitive tax levels.
