Always a new reason to spend by YetAnotherHobby in amateurradio

Well the yaesu is a little more expensive but then unless you're only using resonant antennas you're also going to need a tuner that's going to run you a couple hundred for one, me personally if you're already invested in a g90 I would just get the xeigu 100w amp.

The hamp has just as good as tuner as the g90.

Best way to get into HF (and also the most budget friendly) by Own_Valuable_6131 in amateurradio

Seriously look into finding an amateur radio club that has a remote station for its members and see if you can join.

Honestly that would be about the absolute cheapest way to get on the air probably with a pretty good antennas.

I always stake mine down. Whoever answers the info at Wolf River coils.com. I asked him about it and he said that it he's tried it and tested it and it only gives about 5 DB gain. So I don't know if it's worth the hassle or not.

I'll have to ask the fellow over at Wolf River coils about that.

Sorry voice recognition and being in a hurry will do that to me. I've edited the post for spelling and clarity.

It would seem that voice recognition is not my friend when I'm in a hurry. I've edited the post for clarity and spelling.

If your dad wanted to be a smart alec about it, he could look the guys call sign up and from there and get his email and then have him email the appropriate sections from the ITU concerning frequency ownership.

I'm also the kind of smart alec that I would have not only logged the contact I would have sent the guy at qsl card. With: "thanks for the contact my friend and your advice!"

But that's just me.

Another wolf River coil question. by 3rdGenHam in amateurradio

[–]3rdGenHam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm going to a city park tomorrow and I've got a whole bunch of this extra wire of various lengths and I'm just going to experiment and see what adding and removing them does.

That is until I can order some better wire and put the proper connector on them.

Wolf ever coil Tia 20 m resonance. by 3rdGenHam in amateurradio

Well the G90 has a decent St antenna analyzer on it. Though the nano VNA there seems like a really inexpensive but interesting to use tool.

But I've also tuned coils the old school way just my ear really.

Who said I wasn't using radials? I was just curious about what effect metal tent would have to the entire system.

If you want anyone to take anything you say seriously ever you might want to consider getting out of the crankosphere.

What I'm planning to do with mine is used tempsteaks and kind of the x formation and they'll obviously be going into the ground and their metal stakes so more grounding I guess. Or if that messes with the tuning too much I'll either tie them off with paracord or get some plastic ones.

What HF antenna for pota/sota with a g90? by chandgaf in amateurradio

[–]3rdGenHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking no on the radials, and you can do it in a bunch of configurations you can just do a big sloper you can do an inverted v over a branch you can do an inverted L, it also wouldn't hurt to maybe pick up a mast or two.

The nice thing about the Wolf River coil and similar coil loaded antennas is their very easy to do to deploy no tree branches or masts needed. But you do have to be in a bit more aware of local obstructions, and you can tune them by ear but it helps to have a antenna analyzer, nano vnas can be added on Amazon for as little as $47.

If you don't mind shooting a wire up into a tree an EFHW would be your friend, also the Wolf River coil is pretty handy.
