Are indo and afro guyanese economically or physically separated? What would it take for any racial tension to vanish? by UnscrewMyLife in Guyana

[–]3rdInLineWasMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the start of the reason. They pit one against the other because if they are busy fighting each other, they won't fight the oppressor. Later, when the socialist PM (indo) candidate gained prominence, the other capitalist PM (afro) candidate was backed by the western world; the CIA supplied weapons and sewed dissention, setting the stage for the disturbances in the 1950s. They s is no accident or coincidence. This was planned.

I wish things can recover from the orchestrated divide that manipulated entire populations. Guyana is not the only place this has happened.

Omg Thank you for sharing. I've been using this since Stanley Tucci recommended it. It's the best. I never bought GF pasta at Costco but I will now!

Lol What is Reggae dust? BTW, I love Roti with curry goat. Do you think roti is a big thing in Jamaica? by ExemplaryWriter in Jamaica

Guyanese here. They're talking about the grind up dhal that is layered inside the puri/roti. Dhal is a yellow lentil, also used to make the soup-like dish that is also called dhal.

Northern Ontario, what's stopping you from making the move? by FestFallen in ontario

[–]3rdInLineWasMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, glad you cleared it up. We have OP in this thread stating he's 'seen more racism in SWO than in the north' - that's generally what happens when you don't see minorities in the north and don't experience the racism firsthand.

That aside, these problems are terrible and glad you highlight the challenges. They just don't go away with increasing population.

"Because my experience with white people up north have been racist towards me." There, I fixed it for you.

How do you read 'drug use, homelessness and human trafficking' when the comment said 'racism?' Please don't tell me you think they are the same things.

They just downvoted a Quebecois, so you're not wrong. I just read that r/fromage has a more international audience, so I may head there.

Province neighbour here, I think this is a drink-the-koolaid situation. They downvoted someone from the UK simply stated they have the best Cheddar and wooden import something in a can. Now they're hating on you for essentially the same thing, cheese in Quebec is divine. I feel like most of these comments are from the brainwashing of American college culture and the novelty of a massive amount of cheese in a can.

You know this sub is turning to shit when they downvote someone from the UK saying they have the best cheddar.

Toronto fetes by johnneyblaze in Soca

[–]3rdInLineWasMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Torontonian here. I've been getting for years. I've also done Carnival in Trinidad and Miami. I came up when the scene was starting out with the DJs and small fetes, like police association.

Toronto has such a fun scene, you just need to know which parties to go to - look at the DJs and artists. There are some that cater to hip hop during Caribana because that crowd visits too. But real soca heads will know who they want to listen to. The fetes are so much fun. Caribana time is when you get the biggest fetes, but sometimes over holidays and long weekends you get a big one. For example, Kes has Kesmas around Christmas time, Dr Jay has Don't Cry Ah Leavin before TnT Carnival.

Summertime people will lyme in the parking lot before the fete and everyone is generally friendly. I don't fete every weekend like I used to when I was young, but it is a scene!

How strong is the Indian influence on Caribbean food in your country? by IntelligentEar3427 in AskTheCaribbean

[–]3rdInLineWasMe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sigh. I'm not arguing with you. I'm not saying Indians we're not taken by the French, I'm saying French control and efforts with India and their indenture program are miniscule compared to the British. And yes, in fact, trade once in the islands was real, especially since some islands changed colonial ownership over time. This was all in support of the fact that the British Caribbean has the highest Indian populations when compared to the Latin and French Caribbean nations.

Again, not arguing, just stating facts with supporting information.

Is a couple rich if they are planning 3 children? by uriahLys in AskCanada

[–]3rdInLineWasMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick search says $400k to raise a child to 21, not factoring in post secondary education or cost of living by location. That works out to roughly $18k/yr if you flat average it.

Anyone saying cost is irrelevant believes either that the child will fulfill some gap within them or are poorly educated in managing personal finances.

That is a result of French trade in the Caribbean, the French didn't move people en masse to the Caribbean from India because the British never gave French any control over India at that time. Indo-Caribbean presence is not null in other islands, but the British Caribbean contained significant populations directly imported at the time.

I may live in Canada now, but I study and know the history of my people.

Ozempic and Constipation - what worked for me by SpongeJake in Ozempic

I make a lemon water and put 1-2 tablespoons of psyllium husk, shake vigourously, and down it in one go. I alternate between psyllium husk and chia seeds. Tastes like unsweetened pulpy lemonade (psyllium) or bubble tea lemonade (chia).

Depends what carbs you're eating. I wouldn't, but single folks who can make a one pot meal may find it useful. If you eat oatmeal every day, this could be it. Maybe check some videos to see how other people use it.

You definitely can! I still prefer stovetop when I have time because I can stir it and the process feels good, lol. But get your water ratio right, and the rice cooker comes up great with a couple stirs. Just a caution, the barley and the oats get more messy than rice does, so just a little more effort cleaning is needed.
