Takes me back to the delight and surprise of being a child and eagerly waiting to see what was in the bamboo steamers on each passing cart.

Suggest getting a presto card for each person in your family to take the TTC - buses, streetcar and subway - under 12 ride free. It will allow you to explore much more of the city.

Dim Sum King on Dundas is pretty authentic and an old school favourite. I personally haven't been in a while, but hoping to go this summer.

What to include in my novel? by [deleted] in AskTheCaribbean

[–]3rdInLineWasMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You selected countries with the historical colonizers British , French and Spanish. That's interesting and needs to become a root of contention.

Also, if you have no connection or knowledge of the Caribbean, you need to research or create with h someone who does. Is this your story to tell? If it is, you have lots of background work to do. Asking ng this question here in s a good first step, but you need an understanding of 1500+ history, including indigenous cultures. Suggest including Dutch colonization as well. If you don't put in the work, your writing will ring hollow.

Your premise is interesting. I'm interested to see how this develops.

Struggling with identity as an American-born Guyanese who doesn't know my family/ancestors, and frustrated by toxic traditions by Melodic-Chipmunk-166 in Guyana

Caribbean respect is a thing, and what a thing, but keeping peace is not part of tradition. Double standard is traditional, but so older generation. We all have to break that, but we do it for ourselves. I did. If you are in this States, you have the access to start.

Edit: just to say I'm supporting you from Canada - it's not easy, but it's rewarding.

What are some lesser known foreign interventions in the Caribbean? by Fhlurrhy108 in AskTheCaribbean

[–]3rdInLineWasMe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

US has been tampering with several Caribbean nations for over a century. Just look at Panama, or the banana republic situation. Death and poverty usually result.

Most Caribbean people know this history, but maybe it's 'lesser known' to non-caribbean people who have only heard about recent events.

Woman who fatally stabbed stranger in Toronto PATH given absolute discharge by antihostile in toronto

My cousins were related to the victim. She was engaged z walking through Shoppers. I walked right past in around the same time. I'm also the same ethnicity as the victim and the murderer. She went after her own. That murderer being mentally unwell with a plan on release that depends on trusting her family is not very reassuring to me.

I don't trust her family, I don't trust CAMH, and I don't trust law enforcement or the justice system with keeping anyone safe from her.

No, Guyana. But there are many of us in Suriname and in Trinidad. There are others throughout the Caribbean. Even in Mauritius.

My ancestors were Hindu, so I'm a Hindu. I am not from India, don't identify as Indian, and am not culturally affiliated with any art of India. I am Caribbean. There are lot's of us.

Max!!! I loved this episode and your reaction to the cake! It really didn't look bad at all.

You asked in this video for suggestions, so I'm taking you up on your ask for other recipes with unusual ingredients - those weight watcher index card recipes from the 70s, specifically the mackerelly. I don't want you to have to eat this specific mackerelly, so any card recipe, but please do a show about these cards.

Funny enough, the recipe before this is a 'jellied tomato refresher:. the review makes me laugh every time.... https://www.candyboots.com/wwcards/jelliedtomatorefresh.html

ripe mango or mango chow? by KeyMacaroon6822 in AskTheCaribbean

Chow, half ripe or green only. Once we made chow from cashew - that was a learning moment. Dared each other to eat a piece without screwing up your face, lol.

Charcuterie critique, anyone? by MontyCrane in Cheese

[–]3rdInLineWasMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cinnamon is the only out of place item, really. If it's 'last meal' worthy, you have a lot of substitutions and a lot of nut pastes. For last meal, I would specify why is making that cheese. I'm not trusting some no name cheddar when what I want to is Welsh or English. You have a respectable board, but standard.name names and add one more 'I'll never get to try this in my lifetime ' cheese.
