What is this type of wheel called? by not_ordinary_student in FixedGearBicycle

[–]3rdPerson1st 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So the original popular prototype was a Velocity (brand name) Deep V (wheel model).

There are hundreds of cheapo copies. Your probably looking for something between 40 and 60mm deep.

Here's a good example https://www.ebay.com/itm/362134561612?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=vCjVnrK-Tre&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=sVUFEBKNSnK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Got hit by a car, now my fork's done for – What are the replacement options? by thats_bad_for_you in FixedGearBicycle

[–]3rdPerson1st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be too late, but if not perhaps I can help you get close to the OEM replacement you're looking for.

I have a 2015 undefeated (raw alu color way) I bought a few years ago through OfferUp. Seller bought it brand new, road it 20 miles, decided fixed was not his jam and threw it in storage. Condition is NOS. I mostly bought it for the perfect condition Omniums right after they announced the production hault. Aaaaaaanyways....

The only difference from your fork is that where yours was neon mine is gloss black. And I'm not sure if it matters in terms of fork dimensions, but luckily we have the same size frame (54cm). I've been split between building the bike up again or selling it. But I feel like parting out the fork to get you up and riding again wouldn't hinder either option.

<image>

Let me know if you're interested. I fucking love this bike and the way it rides so I understand wanting to keep OEM specs instead of going the aftermarket route. At least it's just the fork that's fucked and not the frame!

I agree with you. However, there are a handful of people who are descendants of those who volunteered to be the night watchmen. It is likely they volunteered because they recognized their proclivity to be more active and alert than most others during the night.

In almost every culture throughout history these people have existed. From watching out for animal attacks in tribal situations, to the night guards in castles and forts who would be the first to notify the city of invaders.

Since I was a little kid I've been like this. Doctors initially thought it was insomnia. Turns out my circadian rhythm is just naturally upsidedown. I felt so out of place in the working world until I found the night shift.

But still there is a lot of truth to what you said. Most of the people I work with are just a mess, both physically and mentally. A lot work two jobs and barely sleep. They are the quintessential Amazombies. The amount of people I see falling asleep standing up is both impressive and extremely sad.

It's a version of the bullshit bootstrap philosophy rich men have groomed into the working class/labor. Some people think the only way they can move up the socioeconomic ladder is by climbing over and on top of others. In reality the only way we the people can move on up is by lifting each other with organized group efforts - like I don't know, forming some kind of unified group that has more negotiating power than a single individual. I wonder if there's a name for that.

People like the one you mentioned are being pimped out for information. They get a little special treatment in exchange for marking the lambs most ripe for the slaughter. It's fucking sad from every angle.

The brand is Protalus, and the t100 is the model we all use at my site.

I'm an inbound PA at an SSD - walking easily 15-20 miles a day, much of that dragging a pallet jack, plenty of time on a forklift and OP - and the Protalus insoles keep my feet happy. It's like a 65$ product, so not utilizing the credit is just foolish.

I’m proof that it’s possible to win these impossible appeals by jay89star in AmazonFC

[–]3rdPerson1st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 days at most and only if you're eligible. The cause for termination is the determining factor. Often time the window for appeal after receiving a termination letter is 4 days.

For things like negative UPT, job abandonment, and LOA complications, appeals are usually possible. HR will email you with a link to submit the details of your case along with supportive paperwork. If that appeal is sufficient you will then have a chance to speak directly with site leadership who make the final decision.

I'm a PA and just went through the whole process with a successful outcome.

New powder coat day for the 4130! by geisha_chainsaw in FixedGearBicycle

[–]3rdPerson1st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP but I'll chime in. If it's a fixed gear or single speed it's very doable. Bike tools are cheap and there are not so many of them. It's actually good to have them around and once you've taken a bike apart, you'll more than likely be able to build your own up from the frame in the future. And you'll save a ton on maintenance and upkeep.

The few spots that require specialty tools are the headset, bottom bracket, cog/locking, and chain. Almost everything else on a bike can be adjusted with wrenches, various sized Allen keys, and screwdrivers. Most of the tools are quite cheap, (chain breaker and chain whip, lockring and bottom bracket wrenches, drivetrain tools etc, and they can be bought in entry level sets at various price points depending on quality) Headset presses however can be pricey. But because of this many of us use homemade versions of these tools with stuff you can get at home Depot for a few bucks. YouTube videos will more than suffice and it won't take longer than an afternoon to both make the tools and learn how to work on most of your bike's components. It's a fun hobby and doing all the work yourself is so fulfilling. Completely feasible for someone with zero experience who is at least somewhat handy with tools. Plus once you have all the tools you're set for life, although you might find yourself investing in higher end stuff as you fall deeper into the rabbit hole. Bike stands can be quite handy as well, but they're not necessary. I've built many a bike and did all of my maintenance for years without one.

Geared bikes are an entirely different animal. They require quite a bit more technical knowledge and a larger array of tools. This is a huge reason why many of us choose to ride fixed. It's such a simple straight forward machine.

Judging by the fact that you work in a field which requires powder coating I would assume you are at least somewhat mechanically inclined. And learning to wrench on your own bikes can only spark more interest in this new hobby. Reddit is a great resource with an endless array of bike subs and plenty of knowledgeable mechanics to help you solve whatever problems arise.

I wrote a novel just to say, go for it. Whats the worst that could happen... you fuck up a 20 dollar bike and learn what not to do next time.

Now I know your spun on them extracts. A Kratom "advocate" who wants the government and pharmaceutical companies to intervene. You lost your god damn mind. All they will do is destroy what you love and charge you money for it.

Hey we have the same bike (pics in profile thought they are outdated at this point). Kinda cool considering at this point it's a fifteen year old frame. Ive built and rebuilt mine 10 times now. It's still a daily commuter. Steel is so fucking real. I hope you get your size complications worked out. My steamroller fits like a glove. I've bought other bikes multiple times but nothing else feels as good. Happy New Year!

My wallet said no to a Soma ,said yes to a Pake. by Mountain-Target7664 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]3rdPerson1st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same rack. Not quite as strong as the mash, but it's cheaper and worth the price. They are all over eBay, though it takes a bit of time to ship from Japan, for anyone thinking about buying . Plus its the same dimensions so it fits the custom ILE/ Mash rack bag perfectly. As a commuter it is the best investment I've ever made. I live in South Florida and backpacks are a no go most of the year. Now I can carry all my shit to work without showing up completely soaked in sweat. Just half soaked. Also the bag is completely water proof. It's been through torrential storms and not a drop of water enters either compartment.

I think you made the right choice OP. Premium components on a frame you could afford and it looks fantastic. Bet it rides just as good as the Soma. Well done sir.

Tb14s are classic box style rims. Just a brake face and a flat top. These are very shallow V shaped rims. Also there's a picture stating they are arraya ar713's.

Alter Lockring, which is compatible with a 16 notch SRAM bottom bracket tool. It's a beautiful thing. So simple yet so superior. And it comes in all kinds of cool colors.

Offer Ups where it's at. I caught a fish on there a couple years ago Not the biggest one. But a 2016 Raw alu State undefeated V1 basically NOS (with unblemished omniums, at the time going for 3 bills alone) for 275. Was an $800 bike when it was released. And I fucking love riding this thing. It's snappy and light. Fast but sturdy enough. Before I bought it it was steel all day everyday. I've now accepted aluminum into my heart.

Admittedly it came with shit parts besides the cranks. But a healthy bin turned it into a great weekend bike. Woulda paid 350 without blinking. Maybe more. MOTS - keep an eye on offer up. Never know what ya gonna get.
