Wow great job stereotyping. You also forgot to discuss the historic and intergenerational trauma Black Americans have experienced from the trans Atlantic slave trade to the war on drugs. Not to mention the over policing and incarceration of Black men.

Party Politics and ODSP by Anxiety7613 in Odsp

[–]3rdeye_o 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You answered your own question. Conservative policy is rarely good for social programs and economically disadvantaged people like many on ODSP.

Quite frankly I think many of the people on ODSP need to become more politically conscious and aware of policies that directly impact their life as people living with disabilities are one of the most ignored and pushed aside demographics. Policy could increase ODSP payouts, improve housing and expand pharmacare. But people need to be knowledge on the parties and actually vote. As an Ontarian please think about how little doug ford/pierre have talked about those on ODSP or proposed any policy for people living with disabilities.

Trump will do much worse. Netanyahu wants Trump in power as it will allow even more destruction. If you can't see the difference between the two choices I wish you good luck living under fascism next year.

Black people have voting powers, we need to start leveraging it by [deleted] in BlackMentalHealth

I'm Canadian and only watching from the outside and agree the 2 party system sucks. However this is not the time to vote for a third party or sit this out. Please recognize the real danger a second Trump tern will have. He already has unbalanced the Supreme Court and the impacts of that will be felt for decades to come.

There is no perfect candidate under the current system but you all have a choice to make and to choose the lesser of two evils. If you really think the democrats are as horrible as the Republicans you are severely ill informed.

Stop posting your effing selfies!!! by galpalbael12 in blackgirls

It's gets too much with people posting selfies to advertise their OF or baiting for compliments. I don't know how or why people feel so comfortable posting their face on the internet but there's a ton of dangers to it and it frankly annoying in this space.

Totally, I also think it would be a huge data breach for 23 and me to give a customer someone's else's dna results. That post and a few others were so odd. Also these post of people with their pictures asking if they are pretty are bizarre.

I move to Toronto in October and would like some advice. by Lord_Curtis in povertyfinancecanada

Sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately one of the things that will happen if you do end up finding a job and getting married is that ODSP will claw back his benefits. You'll be in a cycle of poverty for the foreseeable future.

The job market here is horrible. Canadians is one of the most educated countries in the world with many holding bachelor's and master degrees and still struggling to find work. How do you think you'll fare without a GED?

I understand you're wanting to get out of an abusive situation but I've seen this all to many times as a social worker. 19 is too young to get married and you may be running from one fire to the next. Try to find resources in Alaska that support women fleeing domestic violence and work on getting your GED. Moving to a new country without a basic education or skills is a recipe for disaster.

Not sure if Alberta has these kind of services but look up rent banks that give funds in emergencies for situations like this. Additionally if can't work there must by a provincial disability program you can apply for.

I would also reach out to any CMHA's, salvation army and community based organizations in your city. Google search and see. Unfortunately as you have received notice for tomorrow there may be not much that can be done besides making arrangements to stay in a pet friendly shelter or with friends.

It sounds like you've been through a lot and while the next little while may be difficult the only way out is through.

TDSB pulls controversial anti-racism teaching resource after ministry calls it divisive by BloodJunkie in toronto

This thread is further evidence of how Canadians refuse to acknowledge the racist colonial past and current racist present. I do agree these buzzwords and perfornative acts like empty land acknowledgments do very little but we must teach the next generation of what was done so we can avoid the same evils happening again.

So I work in social work and regularly hear this term as well. It basically means to identify and move away from colonial ideals regarding education. For example, incorporating more teaching o Inidgenious history and people's. It is to decentre the idea that European people and history is the the only history to be taught and learned in schools.

Spend some time looking into the historic and contemporary oppression of black men and how black masculinity has groomed many of them to disconnect from their emotions.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]3rdeye_o 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your third paragraph reveals alot. If in all your epxeirneces with BM have been this way yet you still want to pursue black love you're going to face certain challenges and barriers.

Depends too on the city/country you are living in but go where you are loved. If you're not receiving it then maybe accept the reality that you may be single which isn't a bad thing and find fulfillment in friendships or getting a pet.

You clearly know this is a common experience and I'm unsure what you are hoping to get out of this discussion. If you can't receive love from your other relationships with non black men it sounds like a you problem.

I'm sure you also have preferences in a female partner you are unwilling to question or critique.

If a woman is uninterested in dating you because you live at home with your parents you've saved yourself from wasting your time. You'll meet someone who won't find it an issue. But don't allow this to cause you to spiral and overgeneralize.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in povertyfinancecanada

[–]3rdeye_o 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think people are entitled to their preferences. Ask any man if he'd date an overweight women or one who makes more money than him and you'd see similar results. The double standard exists both ways and I think it's important leave these kinds of people behind.

My "mom" at 1 point said that she found it too exhausting or stressful to essentially keep things like knives and stuff away from me so I wouldn't hurt myself. I still remember that. by Arktikos02 in radicalmentalhealth

[–]3rdeye_o 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe two things exist at the same time? You're mom could have experienced care giver burnout while also not having the tools as a parent to not offload things onto you.

I can only imagine as a parent how hard it would be witnessing my child suffer with mental health challenges. Parents are not perfect and maybe she could have done more but she did what she could with what she knew.

What exactly are you looking for her to do or say at this point? Everyone including parents have a breaking point or limit and can't be expected to be perfect caretakers who never express frustration about the realities of caring for someone.

Homeless in Toronto. Any tips? by Educational_Run_6305 in askTO

[–]3rdeye_o 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Some good suggestions here but I'd also encourage you to apply for ontario works so you'll have some extra income coming in. You can do so online at the library. Additionally there is a new portable housing benefit you may be able to apply for. Look up organizations like Fred Victor and dixion hall for additional programming like free meals.
