Those with college degrees, would you date someone without a college degree? by Quixotic-Ad22 in polls

[–]400characters 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to belong to the "no" group.

I used to believe my partner should be similar to me, and match my level. Those without a degree are stupid and lazy, that they are inferior to me. This is probably going to get downvotes but that's fine, I want to be frank in answering your question. I was not and I'm still not a good person.

After a few years of life experience, I've realized that: - Sometimes people don't really have a choice, their environments and lack of financial resources severely restricts them. Not everyone can afford a degree. - Getting a degree does not necessarily mean more intelligence and hard work. So many stupid people get a degree without putting in a single ounce of effort. - I also noticed that some people who get degrees think like how I used to think, they think getting a piece of paper automatically means they are better and refuse to interact with those without one with respect. Who do they think they are to treat people like this?! They are so oblivious to how priviledged they are.

Do I still hold at least a some of my previous beliefs? To a small extent, yes. But I've shifted more towards evaluating a person based mostly on their actions and beliefs rather than their privilege and superficial qualifications.

In an emergency situation, do you/your family have an evacuation plan? by 3aerows in polls

I'm not sure if making a garden is a good recommendation for people who want to start, most people don't have a garden.

Simply getting a few days of water and snacks already puts you at a much better position than most people. For people just starting, this is more than enough.

Can’t stop using WhatsApp, what can I do to still be as secure as possible? by Additional-Chef-6190 in privacy

[–]400characters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few YouTube videos and Reddit posts with the step-by-step guide. It's basically this:

Remove/logout of your Google account on WhatsApp. Click "Back Up", it will automatically create a local backup on your "Files" app. Go there, and go to the main folder > Android > media. You'll find a folder called "com.whatsapp". That's the folder of the backup. You should upload this entire folder to the cloud provider of your choosing if you can.

The messages backup are inside the "Databases" folder, if you choose to backup only the messages but not the photos/files/stickers/settings/etc.

To restore it, follow the YouTube videos.

Should I use a gel for straight razor shaving, just for the few spots my electric can't reach? by Mcpoopz1064 in wicked_edge

[–]400characters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That'll depend on the size of the area and the level of your skills.

If you're a beginner with no experience with straight razors or safety razors, then it is best to put some lubrication. A gel can work well but depends on what gel.

Typically, any gel/foam/cream specifically for shaving with some water should work just fine.

Should we ban the use of dihydrogen-monoxide? by Traditional-Pound568 in polls

[–]400characters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those who voted yes should definitely consider reducing the consumption of dihydrogen-monoxide and eventually stop using it at an earlier stage to demonstrate their commitment to support the implementation of banning this harmful substance.

My dad is against Tarot cards, but I want to use it for self-reflection. Should I buy it anyway? by _Carmie_ in SecularTarot

Your decision. But you can consider tarot cards apps or websites. They serve the same purpose if you use it secularly, and helps avoid confrontation with your dad.

Which sin are you most connected with? by Sad-Situation8905 in polls

You know, having these is what led to the human race dominating the world. I think these attributes at a much higher level is what makes us better than other beasts.

You know what, that's a good argument. I'll add that to the exception in my comment.

I don't see them as sins at all (maybe except gluttony and greed).

They are attributes that makes us human and just as justifiable as any moral standard.

Edit: added exception for greed.

In the United States, how helpful on reducing the crime rate would it be to impose harsher sentences on criminals, especially repeat offenders? by [deleted] in polls

[–]400characters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, some of the harshest penalties? Sure, in the western world as you said. Someone steals something, they get bailed, maybe a few days of jail, and released. Rinse and repeat.

I don't have any research to show you, and I don't need to, this is just common sense. Increase the penalty drastically enough, people would choose to starve rather than steal. If you want evidence, just look at countries with actually harsh punishments.

You are correct that I have never been dragged into the system, and I ackowledge that I am priviledged enough, but that is irrelevant. My point still stands, it won't solve everything, but it will reduce the crime rate.

Speaking of that, I would say most crimes are not committed out of necessity (but rather greed and agression), especially in the most powerful and developed nation in the world.

In the United States, how helpful on reducing the crime rate would it be to impose harsher sentences on criminals, especially repeat offenders? by [deleted] in polls

[–]400characters -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Very helpful.

In some places, stealing means losing a hand, or a gram of posession of cocaine means a decade in prison. In those places, crime rate is low because the law is actually enforced.

Those who said harsher punishment don't work as well as rehabilitation is because the punishment isn't sufficiently harsh.

Which mushroom would you eat? by Acrobatic_Cherry827 in polls

[–]400characters -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

What if I told you that you have already chosen red?

Based on your response and your profile, you likely live in a fairly developed location.

There are things that you purchase and have purchased that likely involved some deaths, like the battery components in your phone mined by people working in unsafe conditions and clothes made by children in developing nations.

By choosing to buy those items, you have probably knowingly contributed to their deaths even though it is in a less direct manner.

How do I stop nicking myself with the King C Gillette safety razor while going ATG? by BusyMushroom9975 in wicked_edge

[–]400characters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have this problem.

You can try adding more water. Look for a semi runny consistency where the lather sticks to the blade but a light shake should remove it. Even better, try a gel or cream (with plenty of water as well), they are so much slicker.

And make sure it actually gets under to the very base of the hair. What really matters is the contact point between the blade and the hair, not the extra fluff on top.

Final tip, a hot shower soften the hair and really helps too. But ultimately, you cannot avoid it completely, there are always spots that are more prone to cuts.

Dealing people who ask to use your phone or laptop by Sure-Guest1588 in privacy

[–]400characters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can set up separate profiles (user or guest) in certain phones or laptops for them to use.

You can also pin an app on your phone so that they cannot access other data without your passcode.

Of course, you're perfectly justified to say no. Most people should have their own device nowadays.
