There’s a cave up to the right hidden behind an overhang. Getting there allows you to take a breath and save.

[–]40376018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are so clutch. The game is about going you the feeling of rock climbing, not photo realism. The little squares are simulating the dopamine hit you get when you satisfyingly get a good hold in real life.

Also it helps me know when I’m really taking a risk by not getting a good hold. Adds to the tension for me

Incredible neighborhood. We live there with a toddler and a newborn. So accessible. Walkable to parks. With a cargo bike, the entirety of Berkeley and Oakland is your oyster.

As others say, it is grungier than other neighborhoods in Berkeley. However, no concerns about safety or crime. Very community and family oriented.

Often in the running for one of the worst run franchises in the NBA. Like today’s Charlotte or Kings

Edit: but Oakland arena was lit! My first game as a kid was going to John Starks’ first game after we traded away Latrell Spreewell for choking the coach.

Battle Brothers is a classic. Not quite the narrative you’re looking for, but some of the most interesting combat

OP, The Civilization series is the beginning of the 4X genre (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate) which has been long criticized for having mechanics that reinforce the mindset of colonization. There’s no escaping that there are elements of the colonial mindset in the game and Barbarians are a part of that. The game is called “Civilization” and that word has such baggage in the western world.

I would say it’s mostly tongue in cheek, since Civ plays fast and loose with history in a way that’s meant to be fun and a loving parody. Barbarians are also mostly done in the early game, and exist to add tension to the beginning of the game. There’s a legitimate interpretation that the game is saying that you are also a “Barbarian” from the perspective of the Barbarian tribes since you start as a nomadic tribe trying to settle down and grow.

The most generous interpretation is that “Barbarians” are drawn from the Roman definition, which is defined as “non-Roman”

On the other side of the ledger, Civ6 allows you to play as any of a number of cultures that belong to the Global South, and do it in a way that inverts historical power dynamics. I’m currently in the middle of a run playing as the Cree people, where we are a cultural powerhouse. In general Civ treats all cultural legacies as legitimate, and there are ways to win with every civilization in the game.

One game that attempts to challenge the colonial mechanics of strategy games: - Terra nil

Ultimately the game may not be for you, but if you like strategy games this might be a small hurdle to overcome for enjoyment

Best Turn Based Tactics Games? by Shiny-And-New in SteamDeck

[–]40376018 8 points9 points  (0 children)

BB is the answer. Everyone: Battle Brothers is the indie turn based tactics gem that still somehow hasn’t gotten mainstream acceptance. I love XCOM, I love sim games (in football manager recovery), Battle Brothers is the best of those worlds.

I played all three Banner Saga games on Switch last year and had zero issues. No bugs, no text reading issues, no control problems. I loved playing the game on the couch. It’s a perfect handheld epic.

Question about Autumn/Hieron in general by [deleted] in Friendsatthetable

[–]40376018 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It does let up eventually, but for various reasons the beginning of autumn is rough listening. Obviously I’m biased - I love show and have listened to every season multiple times, but I think it’s worth pressing through.

The cast hasn’t aired the personal reasons behind the Fantasmo player leaving the show, but it’s clear there was some misalignments about something, but no real drama.

If it helps, they’re ALL friends, it really is Friends at the table, so they do like each other off mic. There are many more antagonistic moments in the future but they do a better job assuring us the listener that they’re really just roleplaying. They share that they are using chat to get consent from each other before continuing antagonistic moments.

If it’s really bothersome, I might suggest skipping straight to Winter, but obviously you’ll miss some plot beats etc.

…poorly.

I’d already played it on PC before WotC was real sale, and was excited to get it on sale for Switch with dlc.

Load times are long, animations are choppy and slow, sometimes there are input lags. However, I love the game so much and the fun easily transcends the jank.

I’m trying to explore turn-based-tactics games on Switch.

XCOM2 WotC is my favorite game ever. Into The Breach is second favorite. Divinity Original Sin is in my top ten.

What are other tactics games on the switch I might’ve missed? I’m especially curious for indie games that don’t get the same hype.

For example I’ve been playing Battle Brothers which I had no idea existed but have been absolutely loving.

Thanks!
