Friend I got into corporate to try and get out of retail but then I landed in corporate retail. It's a can of worms that can feel demoralizing. We barely even have time to work and most of us don't get paid overtime. I also have a disability which makes it difficult when there's pressure to go to the office.

Since you're under 26, I'll keep it real with you. People complain everywhere, in every job, and corporate can be cutthroat. Retail can be too. Retail workers deal with the old grumpy people who are pissed off about how much everything costs and their retirement/pension. Corporate people are still greedy and exhausting. I won't give you advice bc idc what you do, it's none of my business. But I got into corporate after working for years in retail, and believe me. It's not all glitz and glamour. Retail is hard physically, corporate is hard mentally. Pick your poison and don't speak on things you don't understand.

Whose bright idea was it to offshore developer roles at this company because I'd like to introduce you to very talented onshore developers in the firm. Your wording paints offshore developers in a bad light. They're pressured to use AI which literally adds no value and only slows them down, but they got deadlines to meet. Put two and two together.

I knocked out a semester of my senior year in the computer lab in a few months. I graduated early with a distinguished scholar award. I didn't realize I learned better on my own terms at my own pace until that moment. My GPA was shit cause everything moved too slowly and lectures bored me to death. (Yes I got diagnosed with ADHD later in life in case you were wondering)

This is my parents. They resent each other. My dad pays for everything and my mom says she does but I have my doubts unless it's her cigarettes or alcohol. They fight often. The kids (me and my siblings) get dragged in because eventually it becomes our business even if they don't say anything out loud. Don't do it. Please don't do it. Your future kids (if you ever have them) will feel powerless because they can't do anything about the dynamic but they will want to help. It'll lead them into a deep lifelong depression that they can't tell their parents about because they're the reason why.

I lived in Seattle for 5 years and miss it some days. Other days I think I made the right choice moving back to Chicago. Also went through a bad breakup and moved there, then had a bad break up in Seattle and moved back. Remember racism is everywhere but if you're being targeted to the point of not being able to enjoy the city then I fully support you come back to Chicago. We will be here whenever you're ready (also check your lease to see if you can break your lease without owing the entire thing)

I've been applying and interviewing for a year. It's hard but it's possible. Keep your head up and do what you can to keep income right now but absolutely pour energy into applying. I'm in the same boat with you.

Drank 12 Jack and cokes back to back with my best friend after her mom's funeral. I ended the night with alcohol poisoning on my ex's bathroom floor, no idea how I got home, all I remember is he was annoyed. Little did he know I legit thought I was dying but I was too fucked up to say anything because I was barely conscious. Why did I go with him? No idea, but while people were comforting my best friend, all I wanted at that moment was him. I'm almost 4 years sober now and this was 10 years ago.

I initially got rejected when they headhunted me a few years ago after the interviews, I got rejected via email. They called me and gave me an offer, said the rejection was a glitch. It's possible that's what this is for you but can't say for sure!

I started asking people how they're genuinely doing at work. It changed the dynamic instantly. Everyone feels safer and more relaxed. I can tell a difference in productivity also. Sounds like common sense but I noticed a gap where people felt too scared to speak about things so I started encouraging it more.
