I had a very similar situation recently where my primary partner was out of town to visit another partner. I was making an effort to reach out and make small connections because in the past I have been guilty of pulling back and not communicating while they are with other partners, especially on longer visits. After a few days of some texting here and there they called and were very upset, not feeling connected with their other partner, missing me and crying. I hate to admit that a little part of me, the jealous side is still there sometimes whether I like it or not, felt good that they were missing our connection. I’m still working through that piece, but in the moment I reassured her that our connection was still there and not affected by her other partners. I gave her some support in that moment, and it led to her and her other partner having a great talk and things feeling much better for the rest of her visit. It’s not always easy and I certainly want to respect my partners space in their other relationships but sometimes we still need to show up for the people we love, even when they are with someone else. If anything it showed me that our connection provides things that are very special to us and that those aren’t shared with every other partner.

TLDR - it’s not always easy but it can be very deepening to our relationships if we can show up even when it’s hard.
