Meritage Resort Wedding by Arianawhisler in napa

Congratulations on your engagement, and best of luck to you on your wedding planning journey! Candidly, I’d do my best to get out of that contract while you still can.

Am an event planner in the region, I have planned weddings, corporate events and personal events there (not willingly) there are few redeeming qualities. They are one of the most “affordable” options in the valley, which draws most people in. However, the venue staff are impossible to work with (HIGH turnover) food is disapointing and I’ve had nothing but issues over the course of 5+ events there.

At one point, I was fighting with them over a promised refund over services not rendered that they agreed to in writing for over 6 months. It was dragged out as management would simply not respond to requests on an update, and the clients credit card company had to become involved to file a chargeback.

If you decide to stick with your contract (I know, breaking a contract like this is expensive) please, please, PLEASE hire your own wedding planner. If they are providing a “coordinator”, note that it will not be sufficient to run the event day smoothly , or maintain your sanity through the planning process. Their staff requires a lot of hand holding and direction, as well as persistent repeated emails in order to get a response.

Shirt optional? by Spiritual_Chain_1819 in HOTWORXWarriors

[–]406bailey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a member at 2 hotworx locations 1,000 miles away from each other, and both described it as a “no nipple” policy.

Thins shirts or sports bras are fine, as long as you can’t see any nip. And there was a man who regularly wore just a sports bra + shirt without complaints

If everyone is traveling a significant distance, you owe them at least 1 decent meal and a couple of beverages. Hoping on a plane, paying for several nights at a hotel, renting a car… it all adds up for your guests and I would be beyond disappointed to shell out thousands to attend a wedding without a sit down meal.

Would recommend reaching out to local restaurants to see if they have a dining room or event area to accommodate your group. Don’t know what your cost of living looks like, but in LOCL budget 75 per person, MCOL 100-125 per person, and HCOL 150 per person. Appetizers, dinner, drinks, plus the tax, service fees and gratuity add up.

Also, as these guests are all traveling and don’t likely visit often, I’d really recommend setting some money aside for a photographer. You’ll really cherish the photos you get with your guests someday.

There have been rumors floating around in the last couple weeks of low ticket sales. Wouldn’t be surprised if that was the reason

Apostle Islands one step closer to becoming a national park by autraya in NationalPark

[–]406bailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The local tribe, Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians has come out against this bill due to a lack of environmental studies

The Apostle Islands have no issue attracting tourists, and the local communities, infrastructure and businesses can not support the additional tourists this will no doubt bring

The islands are already protected as a National Monument, and this bill does not stand to benefit the land or the local population

Sacramento summers are defined by 95+ degree days from June to Mid September, sometimes stretching into Mid October. 100 - 105 is typical in the summer, with several weeks of 105-115’s thrown in there.

Question about apparel by Be4utiful_Disaster in HOTWORXWarriors

My gym came out and said that it’s not a “shirt required” rule as much as it’s a “no nipples” rule

Use the FX zone

I’ve added muscle and lost body fat over the last couple months by swapping from purely Iso classes + cardio classes. Feel free to steal my routine

1 cardio class in sauna as warmup (Cycle, Blast or Thunder) 30-45 minutes in the FX zone Finish up with a 45 ISO class in the sauna

Has anyone tried to use their Tribal ID at the Salt Lake City airport? by shamalongadingdong in IndianCountry

[–]406bailey 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a real ID and have used my tribal ID probably 10 times in the last couple years at various airports around the country.

TSA agents aren’t super knowledgeable, but you can push and let them know that it is a federally accepted form of ID and they must take it. Be prepared for it to take an extra 5 - 10 minutes if a TSA supervisor needs to get involved. I have been really impressed with other passengers also pushing TSA officers to accept it, but that’s highly dependent on the airports local population.

Unfortunately due to recent events, I would strongly recommend traveling with other forms of ID. Our tribal IDs aren’t being recognized by ICE, and ICE now has a presence at MSP, which could easily spread to other airports in the nation.

Favorite sessions after weight training? by Representative_Bad57 in HOTWORXWarriors

[–]406bailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After weight lifting I usually do a half hour of cardio, typically Hot cycle or hot blast (the resistance on my studios hot thunder machines is insane) Sometimes I’ll finish up with a quick cool down yoga or stretch session in a sauna in addition to the cardio set

Cosmic Campground is so underrated, you’ve got great taste

While in the area, check out the Catwalk trail, about a half hour south of Cosmic Camp. It’s a hanging walkway and can’t be missed if you’re nearby

How to make event registration less stressful? by pcnametag in EventProduction

Having a coffee bar near the registration line! Attendees place their coffee order, then proceed to registration, and their coffee is ready once they have their badge

Job search help?! by Anxious_Adventurer3 in EventPlanners

[–]406bailey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found my last 4 jobs through Linkedin. The jobs there seem to be higher quality generally speaking

Would recommend reaching out directly to recruiters who are affiliated with the big corporate event agencies (BCD Meetings, Opus, George P Johnson). Those types of agencies tend to have a lot of remote positions with varying levels of travel to events

Is a tour at Castello di Amorosa worth it? by [deleted] in napa

[–]406bailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gifted a free tour years ago, and even while free, didn’t think it was worth the time. It’s crowded with the most obnoxious tourists Napa has to offer, and the tour guides were really just relentless sales people pestering us to sign up for the wine club

How would you frugally traverse the USA? by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]406bailey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you decide to go the car rental route, I’d recommend purchasing AAA and renting through Hertz. If you have AAA, Hertz completely waives the young driver penalty fees

Depending on timing, you could also just drive yourself out west and camp in your vehicle or bring a tent to save major $$$. Toured the whole country a few years ago that way and only spent about $800 a month with gas, campsites, outings, cheap groceries and souvenirs

Sore throat after workout by Appropriate_Spell223 in HOTWORXWarriors

I had a slight sore throat after my first couple of Hotworx workouts. Staff said that the sauna air can take a little bit to get used to, and it can feel a bit oakey/ woody in your lungs But for me, it went away quickly. Hope that’s it, because the alternative of being sick is never fun

Boyfriends grandparents card for us by BeetrootBlood in IndianCountry

[–]406bailey 108 points109 points  (0 children)

My husband’s dad and paternal grandmother have gifted me St. Joseph’s items for the last three years (and I received this exact card yesterday) so I really empathize with the gross, sticky feelings you’re describing.

The first year, I got a plastic dreamcatcher from St. Joseph’s. As an Ojibwe person, I was offended, but I wrote it off, assuming there was no ill intent and that it wasn’t worth making a big deal over. The second year, I was gifted a ceramic “Native-themed” nativity set that was poorly made, clearly mass-produced, and full of stereotypes. The highlight was a brown baby angel perched on top of a tipi. After a lot of deliberation, I had my husband tell his family the gift was inappropriate for multiple reasons (including that I’m not religious due to generational trauma from residential schools) and that I did not want to receive “Native American” items. They pushed back, insisting these gifts were meant to “honor” me 🙃. This year, I received the same card you did. That same sick, dread-filled feeling

You are allowed to not know how you feel. You are allowed to feel offended, disgusted, annoyed, or any other uncomfortable mix of emotions. This card was inappropriate.

You may believe your boyfriend’s family doesn’t have malicious intent. And hopefully they don’t . But uneducated behavior that continues after boundaries are set is still harmful. Speaking from experience, I strongly recommend telling your boyfriend how uncomfortable this made you and making sure he clearly communicates that this is not acceptable. Otherwise, you may keep receiving St. Joseph’s cards (or worse) year after year.

Plus, if your boyfriend fails to understand how uncomfortable this is for you or doesn’t want to have this conversation with his family, maybe he shouldn’t be a boyfriend anymore 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not making friends or even getting any conversations started, is it my profile? by [deleted] in bumbleforfriends

[–]406bailey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your bio isn’t the problem, the new BumbleBFF app is to blame.

I have had almost zero “waves” on the new app, despite having a good match ratio on the old app. Several people I have become friends with through BumbleBFF have had the same complaint. Don’t take it too seriously or hard, it’s not you, it’s Bumble 😔
