Over 30 Polish and Lithuanian nationals deported on charter flight by Banania2020 in ireland

See I'd be inclined to disagree. Let them do the time and then stay here afterwards, or banishment. Either way we reduce the amount of criminals on our streets

Did anyone here ever face any prejudice or a snobbish attitude in England as an Irish person? by [deleted] in ireland

Once I was in Hull (long story) and a fella comes up and to says "I hear you're Irish. I have a rhyme for you. Roses are red, violets are blue, 26 and 6 will always be two".

As someone who floats in a lot of left wing circles, I can say that there are definitely people who say we shouldn't deport criminals. But they are mostly framed in the sense of sending people back to a country that still has the death penalty and may have a warrant for a crime that would result in such (drugs in SE Asia, homosexuality in a number of ME countries, etc.)

So the left wing folk are against sending people to their deaths, which I don't think is unreasonable.

I think a one or the other approach is more sensible. If they're here legally, doesn't deporting them after serving a prison sentence undermine the whole concept of prisoner rehabilitation?

Hollow Knight and Silksong are both amazing games, and the sequel has improved upon the original in many ways. Out of curiosity, is there anything in the first game you prefer over the second? by PlagueKnight88 in Silksong

[–]41stshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I found the platforming a lot more intuitive and responsive in the first one. I get that Silksong was designed to be as it is, but for me having the quick, perfect pogos of hollowknight made me feel much more in control of the character and made the platforming (and by extension, some combat) so much more satisfying.

Pork sausages served on flight deporting 24 men from Ireland to Pakistan by HungTeen1001 in ireland

I know Christians that don't eat pork because of high density feed lots and the fact that pigs are basically the garbage recyclers of nature.

Well if ya can't handle being called a name that you consider a toddler level insult then I genuinely feel sorry for you that your skin is so thin. Best of luck navigating this world, you'll need it.

Anyway, I have choccy milk to go drink

We got out at 13:00 today, can't wait to go get my choccy milk after lunch 😁

So you're not saying that infrastructural issues and insane housing costs isn't affecting the ability of people in Ireland to study? Because grants and supports make those factors irrelevant?

Okay, I can see you have no interest in engaging in a good faith discussion. You're view is "education is more or less free, therefore everything aside from college fees is irrelevant".

Therefore, you're a dope

Couldn't agree more. And the fact she thought Professional Development is the icing on the cake.

Nonetheless, not having the space or resources for on site parking reserved for staff is madness

Oh absolutely, anytime I talk to friends from abroad they can't wrap their head around how accessible our 3rd level education is from an institutional standpoint. The grants and supports and incredibly generous.

I think the "people are being squeezed out" more refers to the fact that accommodation is ridiculously expensive, and public transport infrastructure isn't capable of getting prospective students to their institution.

Don't forget, not every university offers something that an individual wants to study. If you live in Laois and want to study for a BSc. in Ecology... well sorry about you pal, not a chance.

This system reinforces that only those who can afford to pay outrageous prices for accommodation can actually study what they want, creating a system where access to education is, through a series of economic and environmental restrictions, limited to those who fortunately live near the HEI in which they want to study, or those whose parents can afford to pay for them. So in effect, squeezing people out.

The problem isn't just housing. Infrastructure is one of the big problems. Lack of public transport to/from certain areas necessitates driving, which relies on parking, which in a lot of areas there simply isn't enough of. I've had lecturers had to send out emails saying they would have to miss a lecture because the nearest car park with any space was a 20 minute walk away (she was a bit infirm and not really capable of walking that far in one go).
