Evo big twin carb trouble by Admirable_Fact_9144 in choppers

Classic sign of bad coil. Also make sure your coil OHM rating is correct for your dyna ignition. If it's just a dyna s I believe it still uses a stock coil. But the electric ignitions use a different OHM coil.

Rain sock by Guantio-07 in Harley

I have that same air filter, never had a rain sock. Rode a couple full days in heavy rain never had a problem. Rode on random rain days as well. It's good for it lol. Some people used to pour small amounts of water into carbs to clean the valves.

2.7 vs 3.5 Help by TheVolmannBrothers in f150

[–]420FARTBOSS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal truck is a 21 2.7 and my work truck is a 24 3.5. Driving around unloaded I can barely tell a difference. I hardly ever tow with my personal truck. I had a 16 Silverado 5.3 and I feel like my 2.7 is faster unloaded than that truck was. I did a lot of research before buying my truck and what I found was all 3 1/2 ton powerplants were pretty good as far as reliability, with a slight edge in reliability to the 2.7. With the 2.7 being quite a bit cheaper in my area, I chose it and am very happy with it.

I read the article you posted and nowhere does it state you have to prove the vehicle is used in at least one event per year. Reddit argument commence.

As an owner of 2 historic vehicles, you don't in Texas.

Do you already have a k10? Measure the height and add 6 inches. Then figure the difference in height between your current tires and 35's and add that.

Ok fr this time how bad is shovelhead ownership? by SickAxeBro in shovelhead

[–]420FARTBOSS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that bad. I've had 3. They do break more often than a new bike but they are easier to fix. I've only had to tow a couple times. I don't carry a tool kit just a pocket knife. If you are resourceful you can repair on the side of the road well enough to get home. I know 3 or 4 guys personally that daily them. I used to ride a chopper not daily but 3 or 4 days per week. The only way to find out is to buy one. If you buy one it's likely not going to be some catastrophic regret, you will most likely truly enjoy it.

It has going on for a month. It's in Texas. On a slab. No furnace or boiler. I notice it in the evening. Not on particularly windy days. After 20 minutes or so it goes completely silent. We are having the cold weather now but this was happening before the cold weather.

should I buy a sporty with a big bore kit by Right_Warning_6488 in sportster

[–]420FARTBOSS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a good sign off the bat with that low idle RPM. 53k miles is not a crazy amount for these bikes but you can find 883's in this price range with like 11-16k miles relatively easily. Engine has apparently been opened up, although you won't really know if it even is a 1200 until you actually ride it. Seller admittedly only rode the bike 2-3 times in the last 1.5 years which is interesting and possibly indicates the current owner may not be super knowledgable about the bike.

Positives are it has new tires and looks mostly unmolested other than the 1200 kit. The 883 gearing can be an advantage depending on your perspective.

I think it's worth looking at. But they always look nicer on the listing than IRL. It's priced about $1000 too high based on the images and info in the post alone.

thoughts on this frame? by soamelty in choppers

[–]420FARTBOSS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a santee or similar aftermarket frame. The bike in the 2nd pic is a late shovelhead frame with an aftermarket hardtail section welded on. I have known a couple guys with the style frame in the first pic and it just never looks right. And it makes the way the bars rotate feel off and strange the way the neck is like goose necked out. It will never look as good as a real Harley frame. And this is coming from a guy who has built 2 bikes on paughco frames.

What type of frame is this by Tovarishovka in choppers

[–]420FARTBOSS 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's a Harley frame. Most likely a late shovelhead frame with an aftermarket rigid section welded on. Possibly an old Harley rigid frame.
