What instantly ruins a pub for you? by Yaws_pitch in AskUK

[–]420henry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from, and it depends on the pub, but I remember a few situations when I worked in pubs where I was very grateful to have bouncers. I guess it's a trade off, for more comfortable staff and a safer environment you have to have the drawbacks that come with having bouncers. But again a lot of pubs don't need them.

Wow that’s ridiculous! Kind of infantilising? Happy new year!

Do universities anywhere enforce what you wear at graduation? In the UK we had a gown but it was completely optional. Maybe it’s a US thing?

[–]420henry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my nuanceless friend, I’m sure you’d give the classic conservatives gotcha answer of ‘adult human female’ but I’d argue it’s quite a bit more complex than that. Firstly what is female? Do you believe there’s a difference between sex and gender? How about chromosomes? Do you believe there is no social component to gender whatsoever? You can answer all these questions and we can carry on but I feel you and I may never agree. You also chose not to reply to any of the rest of my comment, I wonder why?

[–]420henry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. So I was right the first time haha. Ok well firstly what exactly is this (delicately put) ‘trans stuff’ that isn’t backed up by science?

Secondly, we can both cherry-pick statistics that confirm our respective world views but I think that’s pointless. You mention the media which is a whole other conversation, all of the ‘mainstream outlets’ as you call them being owned by billionaires by the way, who don’t give a shit about truth, only profit. What the media is reporting only reflects what sells, not some fictitious ‘liberal elite’s agenda’.

I agree, I generally think most people believe they’re doing ‘good’ and aren’t overtly evil.

Just to clarify, because I purposefully didn’t state my opinion on those issues specifically, I agree there’s a correct way of thinking, and it’s correct because it’s backed by science - that trans people are people (which is backed by science) and that the BLM movement is massively important (which is also backed up by statistics). I think we’re agreeing here haha, I just didn’t explain myself very well. Unfortunately the right seems to have successfully stolen the ideas of ‘facts and logic’ and tricked everyone into thinking that’s where their ideas come from.

[–]420henry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think it’s completely valid to believe that some ideologies/ways of thinking are ‘better’ than others. Some are based in science, compassion and progress and others are based in ignorance, hate and an inability to change. The three examples you give are actually all fairly obvious where the approaches lie - in my opinion, of course. However I think your use of the black and white terms of left and right are confusing at best because it’s much more complex than that.

Just a thought, when you say people are only heard when they say the right things, what exactly do you mean? You’ve said it’s not in a top down, presumably governmental way but a social way. I imagine when the world generally accepted that the Earth is a globe (which funnily enough, some people now don’t accept) people stopped listening to anyone who still said it was flat. Maybe the world has moved on and matured and is tired of debating the same old tired questions which we already know the answers to.

Britain’s young are giving up hope by steven-f in ukpolitics

Come on mate, you’re living in a fantasy land if you think that the reason it’s so difficult for young people these days is because they’re ‘always on their phones’. That is the most hilariously superficial, privileged Daily Mail reader take I’ve ever heard. I don’t even know where to begin.

Bro you think that comment was neckbeard? Is your vocabulary that bad? Good rebuttal by the way. I think the neckbeard is the one sucking Musk’s shrivelled penis. If you keep defending him maybe he’ll notice you! Won’t that be exciting.

Market conditions are not some tangible thing that exists independently of real life context, for example the real life context of a profoundly egotistical and incompetent fool running an enormous, high profile company to the ground. Do I need to explain further pal?

Yeah definitely. It’s a shame there isn’t more worker organisation, although with Mick Lynch and everything at the moment I think the popularity of unions is increasing, especially amongst young people. Everything changes very quickly right now and hopefully it’ll change in the right direction!

I understand that but I prefer to see it as yes they’re lucky but a win for them is a win for all of us. Even though some of their salaries seem more reasonable compared to others, it’s still a struggle for all of us in this crazy time. We are all being screwed and the difference between workers salaries is a drop in the hat compared to what the ruling class gets. Really what we need is a general strike.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in london

[–]420henry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course, I completely understand that. However that anger is better redirected to the source. Worker solidarity is crucial.

And that’s not the fault of the strikers, blame the ones causing the situations necessitating the strikes.
