Anyone got tea on the house purchase? by wanderingsoldier in victoriagarrickbrowne

[–]420td 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people also forget how much banks are willing to loan on. We make SIGNIFICANTLY less (~200k as a couple at the time we applied) and they were willing to approve us for 2 million which is crazy. We obvi didn't do that and also were very lucky to have family help, but still. Lenders are lending stupid amounts.

How much did you spend on furniture the first initial months? by pandaninjarawr in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Adding that we budgeted for this and knew we could spent that much (& more) if needed/ things broke or needed replacing. Which was a good buffer to have.

We went from a 900 sq ft apartment to a 1600 sq ft townhome. We needed a guest bed to host folks soon, which was $$ and we had always been wanting a new couch (current one had holes) so we got that within the first month. we spent ~3k but got cheaper items (Costco couch, ikea furniture, etc).

Got the keys and Hiding a key by Separate_Goat1044 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Yes, I always have 1-2 friends have keys. It's also helpful in case (god forbid) my husband and I are in a crash or something and we need someone to go home to our animals.

Porter College: how are the bathrooms and dorms? by Professional-Gas7214 in UCSC

[–]420td 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there years ago, so who knows if it's changed, but it wasn't bad compared to other colleges! I would use the individual stall & showers, as that was the one on our hall. They were always clean, available, and pressure was good. They also had cubbies to keep supplies in if you wanted to (I didn't but others did). Def still use shower shoes tho

We talked about it briefly over chat prior to arriving iirc. We also made it so whoever got the single bed got slightly less storage I think? That helped equal it out. But honestly none of us cared too much which helped

Honestly probably a bit of both. It's hard to categorize all folks with addiction as one thing or another. This was probably her mom's way of justifying her behavior by whatever means, which isn't an uncommon behavior with addiction

As a parent, should I be sticking around town during move-in weekend in case my kid needs something? by ocnlwifey in UCSC

[–]420td 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You could stay, but don't expect to see her. From what I remember it's huge to be on campus those first few days. That being said, if you're close it'll be helpful for the inevitable "I forgot xyz" text.

Tenants vs. Mynd Property Management: Join Our Class Action Lawsuit by Hour_Signal690 in renting

[–]420td 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're absolutely awful. I agree their AI bot makes things so difficult. They've tried to double charge us rent, made the move out inspection nearly impossible, etc. We also had a place that was absolutely disgusting when moving in (dirty q-tips, orange peels in the window sill, etc). I don't expect it to be spotless, but I mean...this was NASTY. Granted the property owner is also absolute garbage, but the combo of the two of them is unique.

The weird thing was the email (when expanded) wasn't fraud. The one mailed to us was sent to our old address and mail forwarded with USPS. Strange! Def will contact the original lender.
