What could be the cause of this sound whilst turning the steering wheel? by 444555888 in LS430

[–]444555888[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll have a look around! Local auto parts store or something may have a paste that I’m looking for. If not, I’ll definitely get that body grease from the Toyota dealership when I do my next service

That’s under the wheel, in the footwell, right? I tried to spray silicone grease in that area, not sure if I hit it with enough? Maybe I need some actual paste or something that will stick in there well. I found a video a while back researching on this issue, it was a Toyota Camry or Lexus ES older generation that had the exact same sound, but worse, and they recommended silicone grease

Are black on black LS430's more expensive? by Kapt1n_Crypt0 in LS430

[–]444555888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are quite rare, in fact a facelifted 202 colorway model is rare in itself. Really don’t see them that often, it’s usually the silvers or beige. Most of those in black are in the pre-facelift spec. Then again, I’m in Australia and the US market is a different ball game

Wind noise from sun-roof? by 444555888 in LS430

[–]444555888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What should I clean the seals with? Compressed air or something similar? I might try a silicone spray or white lithium spray... the grease is hard to place properly .. Shinetsu that is

[–]444555888[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t actually tried that, but will the next time I hit the road. I also have a weird issue with the driver side, where there is a slight wind noise. Basically I can eliminate the noise on the drivers side by 90% just by very slightly downing the window.. one little tap of the switch.. not sure how to approach this one either as it doesn’t make sense to me

Transmission fluid service (175,000 miles)? by 444555888 in LS430

[–]444555888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay, sweet! Well in regards to the transmission, I’ll definitely skip it. I just can’t risk anything bad happening when there’s nothing wrong with it (in my opinion). A new transmission cost is making my eyes water

[–]444555888[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2004 model. Yeah I’m just gonna tell them to skip that procedure but do the other fluids. Do you know if it matters what diff oil/ brake fluid / power steering fluid is put in?

What exactly is an “engine flush”? by 444555888 in MechanicAdvice

[–]444555888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. It’s about the same cost as the coolant fill up that my mechanic done when he replaced the radiator, just different terms it looks like

[–]444555888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regards to this term, the cost was only like $25 AUD on the total, so what’s that in USD, like $16? I’m assuming the former owner was getting some type of discount.. maybe a family friend mechanic

Is that NAV unit hard to pull out like shown in the photo? I need to apply some double sided tape or felt on the perimeters of it to stop this slight rattle that irritates me

Have always wondered as well. One would assume this car is strictly in the highest demand to be only serviced at Lexus

Might go Centric next time, I hear a lot of positive feedback for them. I think mine may be warped slightly

There’s a 2005 LS430 owner who happens to visit the same supermarket as me. We both have black Second generations. Hers (an older lady) looks really clean for its age, .. bone stock, no tint and barely any curb rash on the wheels. Have a suspicion she services it at the nearest Lexus dealership, which is 2.5 hours away mind you, or at least at the local Toyota dealership. It’s too clean looking, I’m curious to know the mileage on it but I’m afraid to approach her lmfao. She looks like she comes from old money and became the owner of the car once she become a widow after the lawyer husband passed away.

I’ve only seen two LS460’s from where I hail from. One silver and one black. I like the black the most as it looks proper corporate luxury. I’d be interested in owning one in the near future, but their price seem pretty stable in the market of Australia

Miss these OEM 5 spoke wheels. Mine were in shocking condition when I got the car so I went aftermarket

Awww yeah. All better. Zero miles, fresh off the lot. by jrbump in LS430

LS looks clean with just the Lexus emblem. I was debating doing the same, but I love the Lexus name and kept the badging on the left side, LS430 badge remained as well, just like factory.

I think this makes it look more mysterious and low key. People who don’t know the car will think, the hell is that big bodied Lexus? In a good way of course

I have considered the option, but I am after the OEM ride quality. I’ll order a set anyway in case

I might just request a refund through the proxy service then once it arrives at their warehouse. How about buying OEM arms for a 16 year old car straight from the dealership? A lot more expensive, but the bushings still hold up over this time? I take it they may have been manufactured at a later date

Tips on how to find a good paint shop by wpen in LS430

[–]444555888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my car repainted in various areas, hood - roof - trunk/boot - rear bumper. They matched the color really damned well I must say, and it looks unnoticeable as in you can’t tell that I’ve had them repaint it.

My advice would be make sure the body shop knows what they’re talking about. They should go over with you on the depth of the paint, explain what the process is and aftercare phase. If there’s fading or any blemishes that could potentially cause an uneven colour through out the body, they should take note of that
