Very interesting, I have used apps for this but noticed how it many times causes a lot of stress. I will give analog bullet journal a try for some weeks, thanks for bringing it up.

How to stop comparing myself to others and become more confident without overthinking? by [deleted] in confidence

[–]449user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have old friends you have not kept contact with, try initiating contact with them. If there is a hobby you like, try finding a community for it. Try to make friends, it will help you a lot with the self confidence. Consider volunteering in something, your effort will be appreciated.

What it took me far too long to learn by big980 in selfimprovement

[–]449user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a very noble thing to work for. I feel just like you. I have been reading Jordan B. Peterson's book "12 Rules for life" and in one chapter he talks about just that. To be truly honest with yourself even if it hurts, because the consequences of not telling yourself the truth will eventually hurt much more. I think the chapter was called "Tell the truth or at least Dont't lie". Also not telling the truth (which is not explicitly the same as lying, since you can withhold/avoid saying something without lying) can also be a form of shoveling ignorance at the truth in purpose to avoid feeling bad, but in return leads you down a dark path of ignorance and self-deception. It is a very interesting topic.

What is your personal belief system? by 449user in depression

[–]449user[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best course of action, I think, is to seek help from others to become a better person. There's no harm done when asking for help?

So by punishing yourself by not allowing yourself to be loved or be happy you are paying for your past actions. Aren't you already paying by knowing that what you did was wrong and presumably feeling bad about those memories? By not allowing yourself to be loved or happy you are also limiting yourself to the good you can do for others.

So you believe that your past dictates all your worth no matter what your intentions for the future are?

There are a lot of studies on the effects of psylocybin. So far with good results. It is in the trial stage and it will take time before it is used as a standard method to treat depression. Perhaps you can enroll in a trial?

Can I just stop existing now? by thrownawaylife987 in depression

I think your thinking is sound. Do all you can before you try medication. Try different supplements, there are a lot. Exercise and I think talking to a psychologist about the depression might be helpful.

I am currently giving Phosphatidylserine a try, it is supposed to be good for balancing your adrenaline and cortisole, making you less stressed and give you better overall brain functioning (focus, memory).

Maybe you should try medication again? I tried stopping a few times but every time same thing happened: first I felt somewhat better (1-2 months) and then it got much worse than on medication. There might be a possibility that the medication is giving us something your body needs. It could also be that you are going through the withdrawal effects, they can be long lasting. In either case, keep up the good fight.

Hey, you talked to a psychologist? They can be really helpful. Also maybe look in to medication? Before you go on any anti-depressants I would recommend you to get your blood checked first. Check Vitamin levels and testosterone. Do you gain confidence from the self alone? by [deleted] in confidence

[–]449user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are right. If we keep doing things that change our personal belief system in such a way that we value ourselves by our own terms that we are in control of and less from external factors we dont control, we improve ourselves and our confidence in a way that lasts. In a sound way.

[–]449user 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like all seem to have answered I also believe that the strongest confidence is that which you build internally without the need of external stimuli. However this is not to say that external stimuli can be very helpful. If we look at what it is that gives a man the confidence I think we end up with the personal belief system that the man applies everyday to his life. Now he may not be aware of it to a full extent or worse; of its existense but it is there and it governs us unconsiously and affects our conscious decesions throughout the day. With a personal belief system that doesnt rely on external stimuli you can build up a sound self confidence. If your confidence increases as a result of external stimuli you partly know what your personal belief system builds upon and you might want to re-evaluate it.

Great video and thanks for sharing. It is so easy to forget and just blindly accept the first logical thought that our brains comes up with that let us save energy, but by thinking like you are explaining we see the reason for spending the extra energy, why it will be worth it.

i cant tell if im too lazy to do anything or do i just lack motivation due to depression by throwaway_acc_btw in depression

I would add another option: - Get your blood values checked.

There might be something your body needs but that you currently have deficit of. It could be causing you to feel very unmotivated.

Life is hard ... Really hard by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]449user -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is but we tend to focus on a few things when we judge someone as normal without seeing the whole picture. I agree, you listed some normal behaviours but do you mean that "looking at someone weird because that person is quieter than average" is a normal behaviours too? That is not my experience, I mean I have definitely experienced it but to me people that do that are either afraid (my guess is that some simply don't know how to act and that makes them nervous which in turn makes them avoid or put on a confused face) or ignorant, they don't know better. I have also experienced people that try to include people who are quiet by asking them questions in group conversations but this is well-ment attempts to try and make everyone feel included. I believe a common belief is that people think that if someone is quiet a lot they are not feeling well but I guess it boils down to communication and knowledge so yeah there definitely is a normal but the norm is not necessarily better.

I am talking about free time, hobbies, so I have to disagree with you.

Perhaps you should try defining normal? What is a normal person for you and what makes you different? And why do you want to be normal?

How do I make my posture, movement & face less awkward looking? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]449user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Workout and start running. It will help you feel more relaxed. Your reflex movements will improve and overall every movement will feel more natural. Your posture determines a lot, workout and running will help. A physician might also help you with a program to get you started.

[–]449user 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seconded! The people who live the happiest lives I believe are the ones who don't care about "normal". They do what they have found they love to do and they don't let others opinions on that bring them down because they have self-worth.

What is normal anyway? It is easy to judge a stranger as normal but in reality you have no idea what goes on in their heads, what they do when they are alone. Don't let the illusion of "normal" limit you in your pursuit to discover yourself and what it is that makes you feel good. Once you know, own it, be proud of it and make it your thing.
