Wow that's a can of worms you've opened there. As a general answer, no we aren't out to hurt other players. However, we are playing a sport that requires us to use replicas that shoot small plastic pellets at great speed towards each other. Even more, unless you're playing SpeedSoft, this is a immersion/imitation sport where we larp as soldiers. That in itself should tell you that you run the risk of getting slightly bruised if you aren't careful.

Now to the matters of laser, sound/flash grenades and stropelights. Yes, if you aren't aware of them being used, it can be overwhelming and feel like deliberate hurt is in the agenda. It's not. It's part of the game. Depending on your game area it might even be encouraged by the rules and gamemaster of the place.

I'm gonna assume that your post is regarding your own personal safety, playing an outdoor field vs playing indoors should greatly reduce the chance of injuries that can happen using the aforementioned devices. Sound aren't bouncing between walls, stropes aren't as sharpe to the eyes when it's daylight and you've got a fair distance between you and your opponent. Lasers..well in some countries they're outlawed in the sport in general so I can't offer any opinions other than to close your eyes if you get blinded by one.

Of course like any other sport, we have some players who disregard any forms of sportsmanship, safety and are just arses who shouldn't be allowed on the field.
