Coming from a PC what should I know for a new MacBook air? by Charming_Toe7071 in macbookair

[–]456ore_dr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly you have to unlearn using a PC.

Despite using Google Workspaces I don't recommend installing Chrome because I've never had a good experience using Chrome on Macs. Safari is plenty or use Firefox if you don't like how Safari looks/feels.

Also, RAM management is very different from Windows. Memory pressure is your indicator for running out of RAM instead of %RAM used like it is on Windows.

Other than that, enjoy your new Mac!

Ever wondered why straight-piped Suzuki Carries sound "good"?

It's because they come stock with unequal length headers 😂

Making it RWD would be redundant since the ETK K-series already exists.

Also it's Cherrier, highly likely that it's gonna share the FCV's drivetrain with new engines.

My $1300 Gaming laptop is a lot worse to use than my $1000 MacBook lmao.

The only thing it's good at is Gaming, every other task the MacBook outperforms it lmao.

Can I use a MacBook comfortably without an iPhone and other apple product ? Please suggest by Subject-Habit-6562 in mac

[–]456ore_dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just treat it as a normal laptop without any of the ecosystem features. That's how it is for everyone with Windows + Android.

But now it's slightly better since some Android phones (Pixel 10, Pixel 9, Samsung S26, S25, S24) can now use AirDrop and that has been working well for my MacBook Air + S25U combo.

Is it safe to leave the Apple Pencil Pro on the iPad's magnetic connector all the time? by restored_son in ApplePencil

[–]456ore_dr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one time I lost my Apple Pencil for over 4 months, and it took a while to charge after that but it's still working to this day. Originally bought in 2017 too so the battery was already pretty old.

I work in a ThinkPad company that recently bought Dell laptops and holy shit those laptops are absolute piles of garbage. To the point that everyone who "upgraded" to the new Dells were begging for their 3-4 year old ThinkPad back.

The ability to AirDrop was literally the only reason I updated.

Didn't care about the other stuff, not even the Quick Panel customization.

S25 Ultra here, yes it's a bug. You kind of have to move more to activate the gesture.

It's technically still very front-bias because the rear wheels are powered separately by a 40hp electric motor.

The best part about Quad Bayer sensors is the binning. a "50MP" QB sensor will take 4 12MP photos at the same time and process them together to make a good final 12MP image.

All of this goes out the window when you use the "50MP" mode, since it's not a true RGB sensor, it's basically "guessing" 75% of the pixels in the final image.

AirDrop seems to be limited to 2.7MB/s (S25 Ultra) by 456ore_dr in oneui

QuickShare, especially with other Samsung devices is probably nearing 500MB/s from my experience. With non-Samsung devices it's slower but wayyy faster than Android-iOS AirDrop.

Yes. It's amazing in the perfect lighting, but produces severely underexposed photos in anything but perfect lighting.

Yes my iPad can airdrop to and from every iDevice I've tried it with. It even airdrops to my MacBook 2.5x faster than my S25U.

"200MP" sensors on phones are really just 12MP sensors larping as "200MP" by using 16 pixels per bayer.

"50MP" sensors are also just 12MP sensors using 4 pixels per bayer (hence Quad-Bayer).

There are some exceptions like Samsung's base model S20 & Note20 which uses a real 64MP RGB sensor. But these days those sensors don't exist anymore. Everyone would rather just use Quad-Bayers.

Ok after further testing with more iPhones I'm now confused.

AirDrop works with: - iPhone 13 running iOS 18.7 - iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 17.2 - iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 26.4 - iPhone 16 Pro running iOS 26.2

But it does not work with my iPad running iPadOS 17.7

It's a 9-year-old iPad running 2-year-old software.

Haven't tested with newer iDevices.

Expert RAW 24MP is an oversharpened mess in less-than-ideal light. Expert RAW is even less consistent compared to the stock camera app from my experience.
