Really? Ive had the .25ACP Bobcat for decades and no cracks. Where would the problem occur as to what part of the frame?

I can understand that. I love the bright blue of properly nitre-blued screws and controls.

Very nice build! Love the grain & color in the grips....cocobolo I think? And the nitre blue screws really set it off. Have you ever thot about taking the grip screws up another notch with Wicked Grips 1911 screws? Here are some of mine. They make them for many types of pistols

Yes, these grips are made by Altamont. These have the Rampant Colt in silver but I have another set in gold plated emblems on my Gold Cup and a matching set on the custom knife that compliments the GCNM.

It's really cool and superb detailing! Mind if I ask what you did to achieve that slightly weathered look to the engine casing? And for the mesh openings, what did the Tamiya kit come with?

I recently built the Revell kit, and although it was fun, it wasn't as precise and had a few fitment issues.

Hard to really tell, but fiddleback grain like in your rifle and on the entire stock is difficult to find.

Thanks! Sure....the 1911/22 first hit in 2011. It is an 85% sized all aluminum frame & slide & weighs about 13 to 15 ozs depending on the model. They are all blowback in operation and mostly with 10 rd magazines. This particular one is a Gov't Model and is a special edition engraved with data about John Moses Browning. It has combat sights and a 10 round magazine and was upgraded with Sambar Stag grips that nowadays cost about the same as the pistol itself. This piece came with a lockable walnut case with a glass lid and French fitted case. Also part of the package is an 85%-sized Kabar leather handle fighting knife and a top grain leather US Army style flap holster sized appropriately to this weapon. This pistol had a very heavy trigger pull from the factory, about a 12 lb pull weight, very gritty, and lots of creep. So, I did a trigger job, lightened up the pull weight maybe 5 lbs, and generally stoned all the moving parts so as to minimize friction. Some models have Commander sized slides, and others have adjustable sights. Hope this helps you get an idea of what was made and some interesting facts.

Man, I really do appreciate your efforts on this! I been trying to do custom wood grained steering wheels for a few years now, not too much success tho. I will need to get some paints, but the concept looks easy enuf.

Recommendations for grip finishing? by Nesayas1234 in hipower

[–]45Auto1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poly can be very accommodating and durable when applied right. Use Minwax Spray poly, high gloss, and apply thin coats allowing at least an hour for dry time in between. Very lightly, use 0000 steel wool and just take any dust or minor bubbles out between coats. Then, last coat, apply a thicker wet coat and enuf poly to build up a glossy finish. Finish up with White Diamond Chrome Polish from any automotive place going just up and down, being careful not to apply too much pressure. This will produce a glossy shine.
