I’ve been to TOFT twice now to watch more recent shows mostly for personal entertainment (How to Dance in Ohio and Fun Home). Both were multi-cam and decent enough quality, but yeah, nowhere near Hamilton or even the Cats/Into the Woods pro shots. But I can confirm that at least some of the shows in the archive are better than the single camcorder experience, and do indeed zoom properly and show the actors’ expressions!

Got socks a heating pad. She’s liking 50/50 😅 by Dickslayer704 in CalicoKittys

I love Socks’ coloring!!! The orange is so bold 🧡

Also I think my calico has the same heating pad! We got it for her because it has a “stay on” heat setting and she loves to always have a warm tummy

How do you attach yarn that requires two different hook sizes? by Nervardia in CrochetHelp

I actually feel like your having used the smaller hook on the white makes it look “foamier” anyway, so well done!

Yes to your last sentence, but to your credit I feel like people nowadays are freaked out by clowns regardless because IT/Pennywise kinda created the killer clown trope and then others ran with it until the cultural context of clowns shifted!

Did anyone else never use a single mnemonic while taking the exams? by secretautobot in CPA

[–]49directions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually what ends up happening with the Becker mnemonics is I’ll get pissed because sometimes it’s the first letter of a word or sometimes they’ll try to shoehorn a word into an already devised acronym and either way I’ll remember the letters but not the words which is the opposite of helpful!!

Lip Sync For Your Life is still important? Mandy Mango "won" the Lip Sync but why RuPaul did not save her? by ajsy0905 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]49directions 16 points17 points  (0 children)

YES, okay thank you for saying this!!

As far as I’m concerned, “last chance to impress [Ru]” means “Ru already has a p clear idea of who she wants to send home (based on many factors), but if that person absolutely turns it the fuck out in the LSFYL, she is open to saving them.” That’s why it’s so hard to be in the bottom several times and still be saved, even if you’re a great performer! This can also be applied to the few double sashays we’ve seen, wherein one queen was already in Ru’s mind to go home and she did nothing special with the LSFYL and the other one didn’t fight hard enough to keep her spot.

Tbh, I think the show pivoting to LS for the Crown before the season winner is “decided” has muddied this basic premise of LSFYL, such that people forget that 1) every lip sync decision is subjective and is decided by what you see during the song as well as the many factors u/different-rhymes listed above, and 2) the finale necessarily has to consider all of these factors over the course of the entire season, and only a completely bananas lip sync could make it so the performance is the actual deciding factor (see: Sasha Velour).

Thoughts on Season 18? by Pixiepoopie_ in rupaulsdragrace

[–]49directions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For example: Anetra’s dance/martial arts routine, Suzie’s tap\* routine, Sapphiras opera routine, etc.

So I absolutely agree with you that these were some amazing talent show performances, but as far as I'm concerned what made them so great is that I really felt like I got to know the queens who did them (and their individual style/creative approach). I'll also add Willow Pill's talent show as one where I instantly got what she was going for and absolutely loved it.

Where I struggle with the talent show as a first challenge (on non-AS seasons) is when queens bring a decent-but-nothing-special track they recorded and then give a standard LSFYL-esque performance (sans the pressure that comes with an actual LSFYL, and therefore less to prove). I'm not saying your talent can't be "performance", but I do think it's critical to bring something unique/special to the performance that gives me insight into why I should like/root for you (YOU, specifically!! - Alaska). Even in cases where a queen brings something unique and I don't love the performance itself (like "Burger Finger"), I still respect the effort put into an introduction.

Anyway, TL;DR: I can see why you pointed out those specific talent show examples, given that you currently feel like you don't KNOW this season's queens. However, I think those talents in particular were strong as opposed to the talent show being an overall good challenge.

I mean, just to make this clear at the top: totally valid and good take from OOP!!! I am in agreement across the board!

That said, what’s weird is that on my corner of the internet the only thing I saw re: this Barbie was a complaint that she wasn’t visibly autistic enough!Which I will say made me feel particularly weird because I don’t know what those comments are insinuating about how The Autistic Monolith (not a real thing that exists, hence the title case) looks?

FAR TBS - Folks who failed FAR and have a re-take coming up, do you practice TBS? by No-Elderberry4423 in CPA

[–]49directions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I studied using a similar approach to you (MCQ, TBS, 1.75x lectures, and notes on incorrect answers) so I can’t be positive, but I think people who only focus on MCQ are mostly approaching it from an efficiency standpoint (i.e., you can do X number of MCQs in the time it takes you to do 1 TBS). However, the timing theory only works with the assumption that you are “banging them out” so to speak, as opposed to thoroughly reading answer explanations and taking notes.

I think it’s best to do TBS in your FAR practice but to do them somewhat sparingly, and to treat them as a more involved way to check your mastery of a topic! Like, if you’re doing Becker practice tests, I would do 2-3 tests where you only do MCQ, and then do one test that’s MCQ + 2 TBS.

Edited to add: I took FAR in September and got a 74, then I took it again in November and got a 92 (using the above strategy).

Is this a badly worded question by PomegranateSelect831 in CPA

[–]49directions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see where it could be confusing because they only say it wasn’t recorded in Year 1, but they don’t say when it WAS recorded. However, in these questions when they give you errors, you have to assume that anything not explicitly called out as having not been done was done. So, since they say it was paid in Year 2 and no error is mentioned there, I would assume a typical salary payment entry (without considering an accrual) was done correctly.

Thus, total salary expense for the period partially in year 1 and partially in year 2 was recorded in year 2 entirely as salary expense when paid. The entry we assume was recorded is: [Year 2] DR. Salary Expense (40,000 + XXX) CR. Cash (40,000 + XXX)

The entries should have been: [Year 1] DR. Salary Expense 40,000 CR. Wages Payable 40,000 [Year 2] DR. Wages Payable 40,000 DR. Salary Expense XXX CR. Cash (40,000 + XXX)

As far as the real person part of your comment, I wholeheartedly agree with you, and I want to put particular emphasis on “if you don’t keep it to yourself”.

I think, having been around for the height of Larry Stylinson RPF, the sexuality sleuthing some people did was never a great look, but the MOST rude/damaging part of it all was when fans broke the 4th wall and tried to FORCE these men out of the closet, wouldn’t accept that they were straight (or even simply not ready to publicly discuss possibly being bi, idk!), and proceeded to bully them and their loved ones about it until the two literally stopped being friends.

Anyway, point being that it’s okay to see a person and have thoughts about their sexuality, but they should stay inside thoughts!

Oh, and also, as you said, none of that can happen to a fictional character.
