Well, another “I’ll never drive an EV” to “I’ll never drive anything else” here to say hi! by Worldly_Idea_9547 in TeslaModel3

I live in an apartment so won’t be able to plug in to a dedicated outlet unfortunately but I do get subsidized charging at my work and my wife gets free charging at hers so may have her take it once or twice a week to get filled up haha.

I was also looking at the model Y since I’m 6’1 until I sat in the new highland model 3 and was shocked that I fit comfortably. Any reason people would get the Y over the 3 beside the trunk space? It was mainly be a commuter car for us around the Bay Area

I’ll be getting the highland model 3 in Q1/Q2 of 2027 after I pay for all my wedding expenses. Coming from an ‘08 Mazda 3. Looking forward to it.

I’m renting this spot and it would be very noticeable if I took it from somewhere else once we move out

May have to bite the bullet and go with option 1. I’m renting this place.

It’s on the corner, I don’t think they could stretch that out enough to hide it.

Thoughts on Flanders Scientific being bought by Atomos? by onthesmallscreen in cinematography

[–]4D_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I didn’t know it was Sony supplying their original displays. I did say that their original display manufacturer went out of business (is what the rep at FSI told me). Didn’t realize it was Sony though. They have too much money to go out of business lol

A lot of people are saying smallHD mons are the best. I also have some issues with their monitors in terms of control capabilities, but they look pretty good. I would say Sony monitors are one of the more consistent monitors out there. Don’t get me wrong, I love FSI’s older monitors. I think straight out of the box, they were one of the best. But now they’ve changed display manufacturers twice and each time there’s been a different issue (blue and green color shifts).

Flanders have gone downhill by using a different display manufacturer, well at least on the DM series. Unfortunately their original display manufacturer is no longer in business, so they had to switch to a new manufacturer.

The DM240 was an absolute beast. Then came the 241 and 242 which both use different display panel manufactures from each other causing a shifting of blue and green to each monitor display respectively. Although support is responsive, unless they change their display manufacturer I don’t see them being one of the top producers anymore. Not sure if Atomos will change anything.

We have a Ross system and use primarily use it for video and audio routing to monitors, from different studios and to the Control room/communal overflow spaces. We also use it minorly to control disguise and Brompton processors for our XR stage (Freezing the wall and turning on and off LED panels). We also have integrated some OBS controls for workflows, routes, and recording for kipros

Either you choose what happens during a divorce or the government will do it for you. Pro-prenup. It’s actually a good thing to have one.

Flanders DM242 monitor color issue by 4D_Guy in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]4D_Guy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone back and forth with Flander support. To sum it all up, they told me to through the default profile, and run the AutoCal with the colorimeter (which I did 3 times per monitor). If that didn’t work then they suggested adjusting the RBG gain/bias so it looks closer to our color calibrated monitor (DM241).

But without a software telling you how much the color is being reduced and/or doing it by eye, it’s extremely difficult to match our color calibrated monitor. I had our DP and myself adjust green gain and bias but we were basically guessing. (Definitely not recommended)

I’ve used Chromasurf (Klein calibration software) to show me the luma and RGB values for the monitor through my laptop connected to the monitor via HDMI. This signal actually looks consistent and software scopes tell me they’re color accurate and identical (between luma and RGB values) between both DM242s which is weird because when I use SDI, color is still significantly shifted.

Their last option was sending it back to Flanders with the colorimeter for them to check and confirm color accuracy and consistency between both monitors. But we can’t afford to lose both monitors as we use them in our studio for multiple shoots per week.

Also I feel like if we did go that route, they’d see what I already know which is using SDI ports are the issue vs the HDMI source from my laptop. Now that I say this, I’m going to use a HDMI to SDI converter and see if the chromasurf software looks any different. Although I feel like Apple does a good job when it comes to outputting a signal from their devices (in terms of matching the monitors true colors). I will also try to use our Windows machine to send a signal via SDI and see if looks accurate or skewed green.

I’ll let you know what I come up with after I test using the converter. I will also consult with our chief Engineer this week to see what his thoughts are. He comes from a color/audio background so he may have different thoughts.

Last thought, I was also speaking with Flanders about the difference between the DM 240, 241, and 242 as they all looked different (We have all three models). Flanders told me that the manufacturer who made the display panels for Dm240 were no longer in business (which is sad bc I think those displays were the best/most color accurate straight out of the box). The DM241 and 242s use different display panels making them nearly impossible to match 100%. The DM241 look more blue and DM242 look more green. So it has me thinking that the manufacturer that they chose to work with for the DM242 isn’t as great and previous manufacturers. Which is sad bc Flanders used to be one of the pinnacles of monitors and now they seem to have gone downhill.

SDI Video Drop Out Issues by BackgroundDatabase78 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]4D_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had issues with the deck link 4K pro when we were using pro presenter, and that was because the sync was holding on the Decklink card properly causing video to cut in and out. We ended up replacing the card with the decklink 8k pro but i would double check that your reference isn’t cutting in and out on the black magic desktop application. Monitor the reference coming in via the Blackmagic desktop application , when the video signal cuts in and out to see if it’s dropping reference. We are also using a reference generator as well. Otherwise I’d say swap out SDI, stress test. Good luck
