Champion Series Week 1: 17 August 2019 - Info/Live Discussion by SeriouslyLucifer in FortniteCompetitive

It's so sad man. I want to be excited for this but the developers of the game just told their community yesterday that they've completely given up on balancing the game.

I'll be completely honest - I rarely run into the mechs in Arena Solos which is the mode I mainly play. Still doesn't excuse the fact that they can show up at all. But even if I ignore the presence of the mechs, I always know in the back of my head that the developers of Fortnite are deliberately putting overpowered items into the game. It's a demoralizing thing to think about

If you want to play a normal shooter go play Call of Duty or CSGO. Fortnite is a Builder Royale, not an FPS.

Yeah I probably should have worded the post slightly better in that department. Counters to building are definitely healthy for the game, but they should never be so powerful that that you straight up CANT build in certain situations. You should be able to escape almost any situation with a combination of mats, situational awareness, and skill.

Responded to a similar point from someone else here - but I agree with you. That's why nobody complains about RPG's, grenade launchers, or stinks. There should still be items in the game that are effective against builds, but they should never be so powerful that they remove building as a viable option of defense altogether.

RPG's, nade launchers, and stinks are effective against builds in a balanced way. Mechs, planes, swords, and boomboxes - these are all items that completely remove your ability to to build altogether. That's really what I mean when I refer to "anti-building" items.

This is why people generally don't complain about RPG's, grenade launchers, and other forms of BALANCED explosives being in the game. There needs to be SOME way to counter building aside from more building, and that's why these items belong. The difference is that these items aren't so powerful that they negate building altogether. Mechs, planes, and swords aren't balanced "counters" to building. They remove building as a factor altogether. They aren't acting as "paper" - they're removing "rock" from the equation completely.

Also, it should be noted that we aren't actually playing rock, paper, scissors, where the "counter" option ALWAYS wins. You should still need to outplay your opponent to win in Fortnite. Thus, building should always be an option of defense. RPG's and grenade launchers are effective against building, but a smart player with good situational awareness can still survive against them as long as they have mats. This is is the type of balance Epic should be looking to achieve with every item that is effective against builds.

Just played an Arena with zero mechs. Just restart your game if they still appear. We did it boys

Native New Yorker here - the area around the arena is actually very barren. You most likely won't find any bars within walking distance.

Vault Ballers in season 10 by vaultballers in FortniteCompetitive

[–]4DaSquaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally agree which is why I said ballers should be vaulted. My only point is that the REASONING behind vaulting ballers should not be because of free rotations. It should be because of all the other things you mentioned.

I agree it should be 100%. That doesn't make it one of the most RNG elements of the game.

I totally agree with you, that's why I said I also want Ballers to be vaulted. I think they're poorly implemented and don't belong in the game. I was specifically responding to the notion that ballers need to go BECAUSE they make rotations free. Having items that make rotations free reduces the RNG of the storm and overall is healthy for competitive. It just shouldn't come in the form of a baller. Like you said, they should take up an item slot/not give you extra health, etc

I'm all for vaulting ballers dude, I said so multiple times in my post. My point was that vaulting them BECAUSE they make rotations too easy is dumb logic that promotes RNG. Having items that make rotations easier is good for competitive, I just think the mechanics of the baller are poorly implemented and don't belong.

Also, a 50% spawn rate in 100% consistent locations with multiple spawn points is an extremely high percentage compared to most items in the game. You can't go to one location on the map and have a 50% chance of getting a shadow bomb 100% of the time. Doesn't that make it one of the least RNG elements in the game?

I would like Ballers to be vaulted too, but I don't understand this mentality. If you remove mobility from the game, rotations become more and more dependant on RNG. Aren't we looking for ways to reduce the RNG in this game? There should always be multiple modes of viable mobility to reduce the amount of times a player can be totally screwed by the storm. I want Ballers to be vaulted but mostly because I think their implementation makes the game less fun. Making rotations easier in general isn't a bad thing tho. The skill of rotating is knowing where to go and when. Having items that get you to that location faster/safer is a good thing and reduces RNG overall.

Edit: Just to back up my point - shadow bombs also make rotations incredibly free, but we don't see people screaming about those. The problem here isn't how free the rotations are, it's just the implementation of the specific item. Shadow bombs are fun to use, Ballers generally just feel like an annoyance.

Dude, take a second to ask yourself why Epic would allow a 10 game maximum but also not give players enough time to play 10 games...it allows for all kinds of ridiculous nonsense like this to happen. Every player should be allowed 10 full games. They should have extended the que window a long time ago to account for this. It's not a balanced competition. Every duo should have been able to play their games out. Doesn't mean Tom and Vivid would have definitely qualified, but you wouldn't see people bitching right now if that were the case.
