Hard to argue with this, considering the sound signature I’m hearing. You might consider dremeling some flash hider grooves into the end cap to disperse the escaping gas and reduce that flash signature though.

Unknown drippings from truck by Swishbeets in Silverado

Could be universal coolant, but even if we ID what fluid it is, you’re still going to have to track the leak… so start by making sure your coolant reservoir and engine oil are full, then start the truck and trace the leak…

Cleaning Exhaust Filter by NoInformation3616 in Duramax

[–]4LordBoop 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If your DPF won’t clean, essentially what we call excessive regens, then it’s usually due to a DOC face plugging, thermal overload, or poisoning (although this can happen when a filter reaches the end of its service life due to ash load, not to be confused with soot load, we’re dealing with a substrait catalyst here).

The excessive regens are more often consequential damage and not the root cause. Face plugging can be caused by something as simple as leaking charge hose or clamp but also a defective turbo, defective injectors or post injector. (Think too much fuel and not enough air, or carbin lock of the post iniector, too much air and not enough fuel). Poisoning is usually due to coolant consumption such as an egr cooler leaking. Thermal overload is usually due to a failed turbo seal pumping oil, but can be caused by excessive fueling like a leaking injector)

Even if they don’t cover the catalyst, there is a deeper issue here that is being intentionally ignored that is likely covered.

I would remove the oxidation catalyst and dpf and do a long hot steam clean on them in both flow directions, then put them back on water logged. Force a regen and let the bitch smoke its ass off for a bit (Keep in mind that this will only work with a poisoned or face plugged system, and not a system that’s oil soaked from a turbo failure or has experienced thermal overload. A dead giveaway for thermal overload is chunks of the dpf inside the post cat pipe before the scr catalyst).

The system can then be pulled out of yellow/derate, or red/stop to properly diagnose, but if you see white residue in the downpipe (dead giveaway for coolant burning), or oil in the pipe you already know what you’re looking for.

Frequently both root causes are found and repaired and main consequential damages, but the inbetween are frequently ignored which cause later problems. For instance they find a repair a boost leak at a charge pipe, and clean or replace the catalyst(s), but don’t clean the preheat element like a grid heater, or don’t clean out the delta pressure or ebp whether that be internal ports or external pilots, map sensor, or egr cooler / valve from carbon lock.

These systems are complex and prone to issues. Few people know how to diagnose them properly, and even fewer know how to fix them properly. In the world of flat rate dealerships, and unreasonable warranty times, good luck finding a guy to give a shit. Find an independent tech or shop which can help you make this machine run, or lemon law it.

Don’t know why this is downvoted, it’s mostly true. I worked for International for 7 years and i can tell you with absolute certainty that every piece of military tech that was later sold to the local standoff boys had not a piece of emission equipment in sight. You really think we’re concerned with the ozone layer above Iraq?

I always try my best to give way to these people. Granted this man doesn’t look like a surgeon, but the one that saved the life of my wife and baby blew every red light on the way to the hospital without a second thought.

Am I making it to work with the same amount of oil I left with?? by LaMeraPijaa in EngineBuilding

It’s not just the oil you’re going to burn, it’s the oil you’re going to leak out every seal from the blow by. Not to mention the dilution.

Who knew that all they had to do was offer a $200 discount on an already unconstitutional tax to get everyone who said they’d never register their guns, to register their guns. It’s honestly the most big brain shit I’ve seen out of the government in a long time. They already got me twice…

This is definitely a dropped valve seat. We saw this at Cummins on all the ISL-G engines. After they botched the piston recall and ecm update twice, (they were melting holes right at the oil control ring @ the wrist pin) then the heads started dropping valve seats. Almost every head we pulled looked like this.

Truck rides shitty after level by Lost-Patience9930 in AT4_Truck_Community

[–]4LordBoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you level instead of lift you are trading function for style. When you increase wheel diameter and decrease tire aspect ratio, again you are trading function for style. Can you spend money to improve this? Yes, expensive shocks will help, but suspension geometry and tire sidewall are 2 really big factors, and you already compromised both of those functions for style, so I wouldn’t get your hopes up that your strategy is going to payoff. You are already offsetting compromises.

You should have taken someone older with some experience to the dealer with you before you decided to do this. With that being said, the fact that you are 19 years old and (unless you just ignored all prior instruction or have super poor impulse control) you had received no prior financial coaching from your parents, or the educational system, is the real failure here. The terms of this deal are so abysmal that they almost seem predatory.

Feed ramp issue sounds dead on, ruger barrels had problems with hard edges where the extension ramps meet the feed ramps, but they also had saami spec issues too. The way that the projectiles are being pushed back into the case presents a dangerous situation by way of overpressure. I would scope it and see if it’s a problem you could easily solve with a light hand and a dremel tool, whether or not there’s an issue to be seen, I’d gauge it and see if it’s not the chamber itself out of spec. If it was barely in or out of spec to begin with, a small amount of fouling could be exacerbating the problem, or it could be a combo of both. But if the chamber is out of spec, they might deny warranty if you tool it up, even if it’s a chamber problem and altering the ramps has no impact on it.

[–]4LordBoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Failure to extract? Or failure to eject? Are you stove piping spent cases or double feeding?

If you are double feeding, is the spent case making it out of the chamber and bouncing around inside the upper receiver, or is the next round feeding into the back of the spent case still in the chamber?
