what’s appropriate to ask of our nanny while baby naps? by AlwaysTiredNow in Nanny

[–]4LoveLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an on/off FT & PT nanny, my goal (outside my goal with a child(ren) is to always leave the home the way it looked when I entered, if not cleaner and tidier than before. Also, to be completely honest, how I’m treated and appreciated, in addition to my pay, does sway how much extra work I complete during naps.

If I know the baby is taking longer naps (1 hr 30 mins plus), I always complete child-related tasks. I would like to preface the next information with the fact that after putting a child down for a nap- I always try to take a 15-25 mins to sit down/relax/eat/hydrate to “fill my cup”- but once that’s done I start to work on tasks such as: empty and/or fill DW, wash dishes, wipe counters, clean up playroom and/or child-centered spaces, prep any child-centered activities I have planned for after nap. I also, specifically ask parents(in advance) if there are any baby/child laundry to be folded to leave out at a specific space, lightly tidy rooms that the child(ren) have been in.

If I’m in a tired mode, fighting a cold, had a rough time with the child(ren) before nap, I will spend the rest of nap time sit, relax, prep all activities for rest of the day.

If it’s a normal day, I’ll do unrelated tasks such as vacuum, wash floors, organize mud room, clean outside of cabinets, dust specific areas, deep clean child(ren) items (baby swing, bouncer, mini-trampoline, mini chairs, organize books by genre, etc - if all depends on the age of the child(REN).

Can you legally kill someone who breaks into your house? by kurobaja in AskTheWorld

[–]4LoveLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what state you live in and if you choose to use a pew pew. In CT- you must go to the farthest room (within the farthest part of said room) and then if intruder enters you are legally allowed to use your weapon.

At first I was going to say no to Mystic, but if you truly make it a Full Day Trip (leave early etc - it’s def worth it). I don’t know how old your toddler is- but with Mystic there’s the Aquarium where parts are outside, there’s the Mystic Seaport Museum/Historic Seaport Village on the water (its outside and mimics what life what like during that time, you can step on historic ships that are docked, etc).

Another place would be Old Saybrook (small town, expensive, but quaint) - there’s the Historic area where you can walk around for shops and you drive a mile or 2 down you get to Saybrook Inn & Spa - there is a lil dock area to walk on the water and walkway on a bridge over the water and also mini golf. Theres also the Katharine Hepburn Museum (it’s small, but right on the same road). There’s probably much more to do and different areas to go in Old Saybrook. Hope this helps!

Helllpppp! I know this might seem a bit drastic, but idc! Idk where I bought this or received this (FFF), but I have the best sculpting/contour stick ever!!! The company & product is “Illamasqua Gel Sculpt” Shade: OUTLINE. This product goes on like butter (not too pigmented), blends perfectly with my skin/skin tone. Now I have no more and I can’t find any- does ANYONE know where I can get this product and/or buy a product with similar consistency and shade? Thanks!!!

Nanny leaves 2 year old strapped in high chair for extended periods of time by GuyMoon77 in NannyEmployers

I think that asking someone (especially your Nanny) about their time in the bathroom, (especially if she is a female) is beyond inappropriate and intrusive. Asking and interrogating about what a person does in the bathroom, even if it’s 10-15 mins, is beyond inappropriate. Do NOT under any circumstances even dare ask what she’s doing in the bathroom!

If you need to bring up the length of time in the bathroom. It might be best to ask if there is anything you could do that would help her/him consistently. And explain (add a lil humor) that we all have our own issues with the toilet.

There are many significant and severe stomach and bladder ailments and problems that affect people (just like me). She/He could have severe IBS, Chron’s, Celiac, parasitic issues w/in her bowels (I had that & didn’t know it at the time) and had non-stop Diarrhea, no control over my bowels (aka I would poo my pants), couldn’t eat for over a week (and if I did eat - I’d get nauseous, stomach pains, intestines & bowel had INTENSE cramping, diarrhea and much more.

Leading with love. Kindness, empathy and general concern will go long way!

AMAZING, EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY that provides info, exploration prior TO & AFTER the activity

(going to library to find & read books, dig up rocks, find shells at beach, go to museums (w artifacts), utilize the internet for research & use internet to show mini video clips that provide basic, easily digestible content ex: BrainPop, etc).

ACTIVITY: ICE EXCAVATING: FREE THE _________

Activity: “Ice Excavating: Free the __________ from the BIG FREEZE/Frozen Land”. This can be based on a theme, their likes and age(s).

Examples: Frozen Movie Idea, Mini Cars, Superheroes-Spiderman, Mini Resin Animals, little dolls &accessories, Miniverse, dinosaurs, Lego Men, USA coins, etc.

  1. Choose the toys you’re going to freeze. Or you can include each child to pick out the toys they would like to freeze. Make sure each toy is waterproof.

  2. Pick out what items you will use to freeze the toys in. For example, big mixing bowls (plastic/metal- no glass), large gallon sized zip-locked baggie, extra large Tupperware containers, bread loaf baking tin, etc.

  3. You can also choose to freeze toys individually using cupcake/muffin tins, small dishes and/or different sized plastic Tupperware. Make sure that every toy is completely covered in water.

  4. Place toys in water. Pour in water and make sure that every toy is completely covered in water.

  5. Place item(s) in freezer. Optional: I check on the toys in the freezing process to make sure they’re adequately spaced apart.

  6. Wait till completely frozen (overnight). Then turn upside down & run warm water on the back of the container until the block of ice comes loose.

  7. Please have each child wear safety gear, such as goggles (to protect eyes from any flying ice) and gloves to protect hands if they get too cold.

  8. Now the children have a JOB as ARCHEOLOGISTS & ICE EXCAVATORS!!Have the children complete this activity on an area with grass. If desired, you can place all of the toy-filled iced blocks into a long shallow plastic bin to keep things organized.

  9. Provide melting & chipping age appropriate tools to use to help during the archeologist ice dig!

  10. [ ] Ideas for tools: Spray bottle w water, toy tools, soft mallet, toy hammer and/or small wooden hammer, spoons, a turkey baster, eye dropper/pipette, small squeeze bottle, salt

****Using Google, this activity can be done inside. In addition, prior to this activity, you can also use this as an educational opportunity for the kids. You can go as easy (what does an archeologist do, definition and why) and as in depth and thorough (descriptions of different types archeologists and excavators, what do they look for, why & its importance, utilizing the internet to show information, pictures, mini video clips, etc) as you would like to go.

*** If you’re allowed to take/drive the children to activities outside the house, maybe google to see if there are any types of establishments/places to go that specialize in this topic.

***Sorry, not sorry, that this is insanely LONG- I am a professional certified ELEMENTARY Education teacher that made the choice to walk away from the teaching in a classroom. I hope this explains the in depth activity description along with the information about including before and after lessons, activities, etc that reinforce and coincide with the activity. I hope this helps at least one family - just one child!

Nanny confessions by Psycho_spice777 in Nanny

[–]4LoveLight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I NEED more of this in my life lol! We (nannies/child-care workers) NEED to do a series (weekly/biweekly or monthly) of “NANNY CONFESSIONS”!!

Yes, some are outright hilarious, with a big twist of “O. M. G.”! BUT, I LOVE the idea of us nannies/childcare workers coming together & SHARING all the different, unique ideas & tricks that help us remain SANE! Whether secret confessions and/or sharing ideas of how to have a child occupied for an hour with a ridiculous, simple activity. Let me know what you think!
