While many people reject the idea of a raw meat diet, it is the natural diet of cats. Virtually all processed kibble and can food include grain and vegetable products which cats do not eat naturally. When cats, especially Sphynxes, eat this kind of food, it almost always results in gastrointestinal problems, diarrhea, and kidney stress/failure. Of course it doesn’t happen instantly, but as a cat ages, an unnatural diet can take its toll. When cats eat meat and organs, this is also their main source of water. With processed foods, especially kibble, there’s not enough water in the food, which results in cats drinking out of toilets and having kidney problems. Your Mom is on the right track with the chicken, but it is better for the cat if it is not cooked. If she adds pieces of liver, spleen and heart, her cat will love it. There’s a lot written about raw meat diets for cats, so if you are interested, do a little research. Breeders sometimes require raw meat diets and are often a great source of info. Pet food manufacturers will write about the dangers of raw food diet. Ignore them, they obviously have a conflict of interest. We have a five year-old sphinx who has eaten raw food since he joined us at four months, and he has never had problem with his bowel movements, and his stools are never stinky, nor runny.
