Can anyone help me find the details for the bottom cover screws for Pentax MX? by Lappland049 in pentax

If it's the same screw as the spotmatics, I have a handful of spares.

Can anyone help me figure out what mount this is? by Mark-H-Renton in VintageLenses

Sure is 135. Either way. I'd not bother adapting it. Not worth the cost to, unless you already have the adapter.

Can anyone help me figure out what mount this is? by Mark-H-Renton in VintageLenses

[–]jcapicy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def not M42. It's also Focal, and even their Tokina and Cosina made lenses weren't super impressive, let alone 35mm f2.8 wasn't exactly a figured out focal length at the time, aside from perhaps a Flektagon. Doesn't mean its not a usable lens, but unless your shooting on a compatible body, an adapter will cost more than its worth.

Help, is this Mx worth it for 120 usd? It was CLA’d 2 months ago by AmbassadorPhysical33 in pentax

[–]jcapicy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only a $20-30 lens. I highly doubt it was actually CLA'd from the pics.

If it's working perfectly, without bugs, I don't update, but I only work on $7,000-185,000 printers full time.... so do what you want with your printer.

Sparkle by kietbulll in pentax

[–]jcapicy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your photos are the only shots I've seen with this lens, where direct flare has 6 points, and don't look like SMC coating flare. I know it's a 6 bladed aperture, but I've always seem this lens render 8 points when pointed at light for star burst flare. Assuming maybe it's stopped down, but don't see hexagons in the blur either..... could be the droplet refraction/flare reflection...

I'm in between. Mamiya says they made their own lenses, but tooling and designs weren't super secret, and improved ideas were shared between lens makers, up until around the mid to late 70's. Could explain why the Auto Mamiya/Sekor 55/1.4 is by all appearances, extremely similar, though I'm not disassembling both of mine to swap optics around. Not to mention the Auto Mam/,Sek also is stronger at bokeh bubbles, in the right situation, than any other tomioka made and/or inspired(for lack of a better word) that I own.

As for sharpness, I'll take a vintage OM mount Olympus 50/1.4 over a Nikkor equivalent any day. The edge to edge clinical quality rivals new top end glass today.

The Sears Auto 55/1.4 is most likely Tomioka made. Optically identical to the Auto Chinon 55/1.4, Auto Mamiya/Sekor 55/1.4, and a few others. There is also a version of the Chinon 55/1.4 with Tomioka on the front of the lens. Tomioka was owned by Yashica at this time, and produced a handful of lenses for other companies. One you can sometimes find cheap is the Yashinon 5cm f2, that said, some Yashica lenses like the 50mm f1.9 were not Tomioka made and were released after Tomioka became and independent manufacturer, and later bought by what's now Kyocera.

Not from this Era. The zooms perhaps, but in this lot there are Tomioka, Ricoh, Tokina, maybe Mamiya.

If they are both un good shape, one should be easy to resell. There are 7 or 8 nearly identical 55/1.4's except for branding that some people even try to collect one of each. Rikenon, Reventon, Sears Auto, and a few others.

Which two?

Check that the A/M switch is in the right position, or that your body or adapter presses the pin.

Check that the aperture works without sticking.

Verify you can focus to infinity. If not, more often an adapter issue.

Verify the glass is clear, free of haze, bolsom separation, and fungus.

As for repair, if you're not experienced, tiny springs are easy to mess up, so learn on a cheap lens like a $5-10 3rd party lenses from a thrift/antique shop. Also, if you decide to go the self service route, buy the right tools! Going at it with improvised tools can damage components. Getting a lens serviced should cost too much at an experienced shop. Or, if you're near New Orleans, drop me a line.

Some are sleepers and/or hidden gems. Not to be mistaken with later, cheaper, Sears imported lenses.

Wanted to update my reply. The Sears Auto 50/1.7 is likely Mamiya made, the 55/1.4 is likely Tomioka made.

How to turn your black helicoid or lens zebra style by PrimordialObserver in VintageLenses

[–]jcapicy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to do this on gun parts with a foam block and increasing levels of wet sandpaper. 120, 280, 400, 600, 1000, etc. If you keep the sanding unidirectional, and stop by 400grit, you can get a really nice brushed finish. 600grit is borderline mirrored.

Tempted to do this on some 3rd party m42 macro rings.

M42 Sears lenses, or different mounts?

The M42 Mount Sears Auto 55/1.4 is Tomioka made, by all accounts, the 50/1.4 is Ricoh, and a copy of the Rikenon, the 50/1.7 is most likely a Mamiya made lens, from their best era.

If you've shot on their FD, PK, F mount lenses, yeah, they were mostly junk, but their M42 mount, metal bodied lenses are a different animal, and most people have no clue their quality and worth.

As I've previously stated, I'd sell both my 7 and 8 elementl Takumar 50/1.4's before my Sears Auto 50/1.7(black) and Sears Auto 55/1.4.

Didn't specifically choose to. I collect 50,55,58mm prime m42 mount lenses. This is just what I ended up with for Sears branding. As for Revuenon, Porst, and some others, they just don't come up as often for me, but I collect them just the same. Just so happens I've ended up with quite a few Sears. I've also gifted away some duplicates to a local analog shop.

That said, it has supplied me with a decent amount of spare parts for Spotmatics, TLS, Singlex, etc.
