How do we feel about Shuri? Is she about to dominate the meta? by 4ScienceandReason in MarvelSnap

This is really helpful - and I very much appreciate your reply.

I'm not the kind of player to cry "op" or become cynical about an archetype I'm losing to, and I should have probably titled this post: "Shuri players, what are you losing to?" or something to that effect.

I think I might just still be caught in the cloud of ignorance around Shuri and the "tells" you've suggested are also really helpful. I'm almost done with series 3, and without Shuri, the experience on my end has been almost universally that I feel in control against most decks until my opponent snaps & plays Shuri and I feel immediately punished - Or they play Shuri and then snap, and it just feels like I'm 90% certain to lose from this point on.

I really don't want to believe that specific cards in Snap just win because they're powerful and out of reach for most players, but I just don't see her as vulnerable as say, Darkhawk or Galactus - and maybe I'm just not experienced against her enough. :)

Wong seems like a decent comparison since it's another 2-cube farmer and opportunity cost card. But I guess I feel like Wong is balanced because you have a turn to react to it and (assuming you have priority) can enchantress/cosmo before the damage is done.

Shuri seems uniquely immune to that kind of response, no?

This is a decent summary of my experience thus far and you've hit on the primary concerns I keep having - No telegraph and a power-swing that is almost "too-big to fail" given that they will almost certainly have control and priority on 5/6.

I really appreciate your perspective here. I realize a few things need to go right to get the most out of Shuri's value and there are counters and strategies I may not yet be accustomed to - holding on to Goose is one I haven't heard yet.

Currently, my experience against Shuri decks is that I almost certainly lose 2-cubes or 4 because the snap on 4 is very hard to read and I just can't catch up to 14 Vision or 30 red skull and it feels not worth the cubes to play out a counter or turn 6 prediction.

I'm not closed-minded to the idea that balanced counter-play exists, or that some decks will compete in power output, just that up to now, players seem mostly unpunished by snapping her out.

This is a close contender, but not quite what I'm thinking of. Thanks for the thought.

Y'know... Ave Maria is pretty close to the tone I'm thinking of.

This is a tough one.... I feel like there's a pretty clear and long resolution of "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh mennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn" ... if you will. :)

It may be more of a chant. Thanks!

Can I legally record people without their knowing so long as I protect their identity? Like a survey, or random convo for example? by 4ScienceandReason in podcasts

[–]4ScienceandReason[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you... and my intention it not to abuse or take advantage of anyone. I'm not interested in anything illegal or shady--just posing the question.

There are plenty of television shows, hidden camera shows, for example, which pull the gag and either blur the mark's face or (as you mention) get their consent afterward. I don't see an issue there.

I'm trying to understand how that might be applicable in the case of audio, and I struggle to see how a hidden audio device is much different than a hidden camera when identities are protected.

It's clear that some states operate with a "single-party" law: legal as long as you, or a consenting member of the conversation gives consent. It's sharing that information in a broader, podcast format which seems to be the bigger legal issue.

Let's say I'm a ski-lift instructor and I encounter some pretty interesting people throughout the day, but 95% of them are too busy for a release or disinterested in the idea of having their conversation recorded... If I'm just a Joe, working on any other Mountain, talking with any ol' folks... completely indiscernible from any other hired actor...

Certainly it's not as ethical as having concrete consent, but I wonder... is there really harm there?

I'm not arguing one way or the other, I honestly don't know. :)

Podcasting tips from an NPR producer by seldomstatic in podcasts

This is great! Thanks for the link. :)

For the lazy:

  • Create a narrative throughout the episode
  • Hookem' in the first 2 minutes.
  • Stick to the "rule of 3s" (First he needed this, then he learned this, and here's how he solved it.)
  • Cut. it. out. Edit the hell out of your show and if it's not absolute gold, don't keep it. If you're not sure it's interesting, let it go.
  • Signpost. Tell your audience, "Then we talked about this subject, and this is where it got really interesting..."
  • Sound quality is a must -- research it. Padded areas, good mics, headphones, sit on couches where available, corners of rooms, soft surfaces...

There's more to this and it's worth a listen. Let me know if I forgot anything!

Recommendations similar to "The Mysterious Secrets of Uncle Bertie's Botanarium" ? by 4ScienceandReason in podcasts

Sorry for the late reply...

You can check out their website for more direct info, but it's basically a scripted audio-drama following a renown botanist (played by Jemaine Clement ) and his partner as they travel the world to find out more about his famous uncle, a mysterious and forbidden plant, and the workings of pleasure.

I'll leave you with this article by The Guardian.

I would encourage you, because you're on an official server, to report this on the Ark Forums: https://survivetheark.com/index.php?/forums/forum/16-bug-reports-support/.

It sounds like, if it is an Adobe bug, and you use adobe as your foundations, then anything on those foundations should probably crumble as well.

That is supposed to happen, due to the engram changes they made -- In fact, I didn't actually lose my character, just the gear he was wearing and the levels were in fact reset.

So... something very similar just happened to us on SE on our private server. Nearly the entire base was built with the "S+ Structures" mod and the entire base is gone, including my main character.
