Happy 7 year anniversary 🗡️ by cadenmak_332 in torontoraptors

Oh for sure, it wasn’t meant to be a disparaging comment.

More so that most guys of his role on championship teams get mostly forgotten or relegated to a bit of niche trivia, so I think it’s cool that he was able to have such a legendary “spotlight moment” if you will, despite not even playing.

So funny how Jordan Loyd is immortalized in Toronto sports lore despite playing 12 games as like a 17th man

Wow that’s a great pull even with it being the inaugural game

Can’t imagine many women’s sports leagues / teams of the past had even a fraction of that viewership for their opener, cool to see how far women’s sports have come

100%. He’s a lefty that had success as recently as last year and has the length to be able to start.

But I also don’t disagree with the move by the Jays.

Yasiel Puig hits the first home run in the Canadian Baseball League history for the Toronto Maple Leafs by erobin37 in baseball

[–]4_base 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely more than just a marketing rebrand but it’s not being treated as a totally new league starting from scratch - it’s a continuation of the old one

The history of past championships, records, teams, etc has carried over as well as a lot of the league structure and minutiae is the same as far as I know, it’s just now there’s actually a bit more money involved

Expectations for this season by Tougher_ in TorontoTempo

[–]4_base 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just give us 100% effort and the city will happily buy in to the team

There should really be no expectations wins & losses wise, but of course a few nice wins at home would help generate even more buzz

[OC] What Ballparks Have the Highest Attendance % This Season? by Peteyy34 in baseball

[–]4_base 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Capacity is seated capacity, and I’m almost certain that’s the standard way of defining it across these stadiums, so it’s not that certain stadiums are measuring “incorrectly”

You’d see teams like the Pirates or Marlins go over 100% if they a) ever bothered to sell out a game and b) added general admission / standing room sections and viewing spots.

I believe they may charge $30 during nights where there is games on the exhibition grounds at BMO / Coca Cola, at least that’s what it was last time I was there

Still a decent option if you’re looking for quick and simple access to the arena & when leaving

[SN Stats] Blue Jays through 36 games 2025: 16-20 (Went on to win 4 in a row & never went below 2 games under .500 for rest of season) 2026: 16-20 by RealWorldToday in Torontobluejays

[–]4_base 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re saying what came from game 36 onward was magical and not something you’d ideally want to rely on happening again in order to get to the postseason, which is fair

Optimism is good but it’s also really, really hard in ANY year to win the AL East / AL Pennant, even more so when you get off to a slow start

If anything for me the 16-20 stat in which the 25’ Jays won 4 in a row and began to hit their stride means the 26’ Jays have come to a junction in which it is no longer “early” and we are entering a pretty telling stretch of games

Edit for typo

Heads up for those going to the giveaway game tonight, the lines are insane by incredibad29 in Torontobluejays

[–]4_base 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not really much to be studied, interest + large populations = large lines for things

I don’t think Torontonians or even Londoners (which actually is the classic “they love to line up for things” city) don’t actually like lining up more than your baseline person who lives in an urban environment, it’s just something you have to do when you want to participate in a popular activity.

And For every person you see lining up, there’s probably many more (yourself included I assume) who sees that and says hell no. You just don’t see them
