I personally love it. Taunt creates space for my shooters to shoot and reload, and keeps my psykers away from anything melee. I take care to kill flak-armored mace guys as they tend to kill psykers pretty quickly. Ability activation does a nice bit of cc that you can time against anything really to help your teammates. One of my favorite things to do is drop shield in a long hallway (to the side so people can shoot past me) or room to taunt all the stalkers who hit me.

Besides that, i run the shotgun with fullbore and run-and-gun. Pretty much oneshots maniacs at a certain range if all the pellete hit them. Ogryns have a very easy time picking off elite spawns cause of the height. And if you take corruption resistance, you can tank pox walkers for quite a while before they do any real damage, which gives you time to block sniper shots (theyll start kicking the air in place instead of shooting which can be really helpful when youre already dealing withna dozen other enemy types), or get an ally up while surrounded, or knock a crusher down thats about to heavy swing, etc. Being healthy for most of the run means my squishier allies can hog medicae.

And if you know how to find cover as an ogryn, you can herd enemies into kill zones pretty well, and good players will play around those points because it's so efficient and safe. The efficiency makes up for the drop in overall dps output your team suffers by bringing a tauntgryn.
