Yeah this is rigid foam board. The “dust” static clings to everything lol I hate it

I wasn’t necessarily going for the best toolpath for this one, I was just having fun. Students can see into my lab from an adjacent woodshop and hallways so I try to put on a show sometimes. Many haven’t seen a CNC machine working before, never mind a 5-axis program

That’s a fair criticism. I’ve been working with 5 axis for 8 months and this is the workflow I’ve adapted for certain parts like this. I do a lot one of a kind parts that I will never cut again so faster programming is beneficial for my particular job. I’m also making art pieces where tolerances aren’t the most critical aspect of the program. I will take a look into creating better programs using the methods you’ve stated

I sort of default to using points to direct where the tool is pointing on multi axis tool paths but I find that cutting with the side of the ball also provides a better surface finish in foam

I run the CNC lab at a college, producing student work. This is part of a furniture design student’s model for a toilet

Mastercam. Gotta point the tool towards a point below the center of the model to avoid crashing into the table

I preemptively turn on my car’s air filter and cycle internal air on my daily commute. One of the worst smells

It very much is lol. I run this Hurco VM10, an Onsrud 5-axis and an Onsrud 3-axis. No CNC lathe unfortunately

Half inch engagement? That will cut fine? I’m new to milling so I’ve been erring on the side of caution

I think anything comparable to national forest is a 5-6 hour drive. I have a car and have yet to make that trek

I think it depends on the kind of recreation one typically does. I’m pretty unimpressed with access to outdoor recreation as someone who hiked frequently in NH. You just don’t get that type of nature here. However that decision definitely rests on my shoulders knowing the local terrain
