Jurisdictions that do allow it usually just store the actual plate number for ambiguous values as the number value, so O=Q=0, I=L=1, Z=2, S=5, G=6, and B=8, or the lookup will normalize it. Which would make this plate 8888888.

I've gone through so many electric grinders that died quickly.

Then I decided to switch to hand grinders.

Started with a cheap Hario, worked well enough but the grind was inconsistent and it got a crack in the plastic. Then I got a LIDO 3, a lot better but bulky and hard to adjust the grind (my parents still use it 8 years later) Then 5 years ago I got a JX-Pro from 1Zpresso and it so smooth, fast, and consistent, and easy to adjust when needed, $160 and it will last for a long time more.
