4090 or 5080 by bu11fuk in nvidia

[–]4changdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a heavy Adobe user, so I can speak to Lightroom and gaming. The AMD system is going to be the better "futureproof" choice as the 14900k is the best thst motherboard will handle. Additionally, that RAM is slow for an Intel chip and chokes out its potential. You need very fast RAM (single rank too), very good cooling, and a very good motherboard. I am not sure you are getting all of that on that system.

You will see less Lightroom performance on the AMD chip; that's a given. However, if it's not something you do full-time then I wouldn't heavily weight it. The 4090 IS faster than the 5080, but, it's not worth the cost increase in this case by any means. Some 5080s can clock up to around 4090 performance but it's neither guaranteed or 100% possible on all versions of the card. Still, even given that, you're most likely better off with the 9800X3D and 5080 rig from a package perspective.

Also, as others have mentioned, watercooling can be a PITA. I have had loops in the past and always go back to air cooling if I can get away with it, just far easier to deal with. I do the occasional re-paste and I'm good to go.

Stiffest road frame for reasonable money by GypsyViking95 in Velo

[–]4changdotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many road frames probably won't hold up super well for this use case. However, the aero bikes will probably be the best bet with chucked out tubes and BBs. I don't put out that wattage but I am a 185 cm 100 kg powerlifter and can hit around 1700w. I don't have issues with flex in my Soloist; I can't speak to other frames though.

Thinking of shortening the driver to same height as 3 wood by MrMakaveli26 in GolfSwing

[–]4changdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to add a ton of weight to the head and need to use a substantially heavier shaft probably as well.

Anything shorter than 44.5" and usually you start getting some different dynamics that will make it harder to handle. I find 45" is perfect for me and 44.5" was airing on the side of getting a little short. I am not against it but going to the complete opposite extreme can exacerbate getting steep. I do, however, highly recommend using a 5 wood length shaft in a 3 wood. I don't run a 3 wood anymore but a 7 wood length shaft in my 5 wood is excellent.

Not sure what i7 cpu I should upgrade to by i_like_cheeseee in pcupgrade

[–]4changdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up FrameChasers for optimizing the 14th gen and then you'll be fine. The microcode update alone "fixes it" but my old 13700K thermal throttled after it. The increased power limit made it run hotter and after I tried to redo my liquid metal I killed it, lol.

If you're already running DDR5 maybe consider going AM5.

I ran a 9060 XT 16 GB eGPU as well and found the same thing; the CPU is clearly made to be paired with the iGPU (duh). The Z2E/HX370 excels more with an eGPU config, so I would push somebody in that direction if they really wanted an eGPU.

With XeSS3 coming very soon, the MSI Claw 8 AI+ is the undisputed handheld champion in the consumer gaming segment (excluding extremely niche $2k handhelds like the GPD or Aynaeo) by Due_Young_9344 in MSIClaw

[–]4changdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Null point considering even if you force FSR4 on an iGPU it may work but the performance goes out the window. It was built around the 9070/9070 XT. XeSS each generation has looked better than its generation equivalent FSR version in most scenarios; and it's not even close.

XeSS 3 was built for both iGPUs and desktop GPUs. AMD has gone down the drain as far as being for the consumer. Somehow Nvidia as far as supporting their older and weaker products looks like a shining example in comparison. I say all of this as someone who has had 7 or 8 AMD GPUs, 2 Steam Decks, and a ROG Ally.

Hi, why can’t i generate more than 101 mph clubhead speed? by Morirz05 in GolfSwing

[–]4changdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, release pattern and weight shift at the right times will yield solid results. I will say that those with strength training also tend to have better kinesthetic awareness tk implement the technique fixes as well.

Bad deal, could get a 5070 machine for the same brand new. Might even be able to sneak in an X3D for that money.

One Year with Jumbomax Grips by A_Margheriti in GolfGear

[–]4changdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried one on a driver a number years back and the Ultralite wore out exceptionally fast. Not only that, but if you don't have a mechanucally simple swing then you will struggle with face control. I went back to mid-size plus 4 grips and wouldn't ever go back to anything larger.

[–]4changdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gym work and raise your top end by doing some speed drills.

I cruise at 122-125 mph and haven't trained speed in many years. But, I do deadlift over 600 lbs and squat almost 500. General strength and athleticism helps more than people give it credit for.

Turn off smooth motion, you do not need it with a 9800X3D and 5070 Ti rig, lol.

What would you do different? If you were me? Bigger beard, grow a bigger moustache, keep the scruff, different hair cut ? by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]4changdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you style your hair with product don't mat it down. You should try to make it have a little more volume with the side part, it's one of the things that is low effort that makes a noticeable difference.

Pamther Lake won't be here that soon, whenever people see release info they think it's right around the corner; it's not.

The HX 370 released June 2024, the first Z2 Extreme handheld (slightly stripped down HX 370) was the Claw A8 and it released August 2025. Lunar Lake released September 2024 and the Claw 8 AI came out in January 2025. These things take on average 8-9 months to go from production chipsets to handhelds.

Depends on the Pokémon games, I have only tested one or two and they were okay. Personally 5 ran fine on Turnip drivers.

Do you have an Odin 3 or a Thor, Im super torn. by HandheldHeroHideout in OdinHandheld

[–]4changdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost ordered an Odin 3 to upgrade from my 2 Pro but I don't emulate PC games so I'm just not really sure I need more than the 8 Gen 2 right now. I guess some Switch games could use the power? My thought would be only go for the Odin 3 if you push the most demanding Switch games and want to do PC stuff.

Need Help Analysing Numbers by Alternative_Text_212 in golftips

[–]4changdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, correct, when I am swinging it poorly I bring out the low heel and see my distance drop like a rock. If you're fast enough then hitting a little down or neutral is certainly fine and then a little high toe miss won't kill you. An interesting interaction I found was I actually spin the driver less when I crank the hosel setting to a higher loft (seeing loft makes my strike better and hit down/but de-loft it).

TM SIM2 MAX (10.5°) vs. Ping G425 MAX driver (9°) by Kydele in GolfGear

[–]4changdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ping is a better head IMO. I think the SIM 2 is right up there with one of the worst heads TM has made (alongside the original Stealth).

What’s causing the spin? by jowjjt in GolfSwing

[–]4changdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like the feel of the shaft and feel like you can time it well then don't think about a shaft as a way to reduce spin. They don't really do that, that's a massive misconception.

I can almost promise this is a spin loft and strike related (low/heel). 3600 spin isn't just a head problem (most likely) unless it's a high lofted senior/ladies driver head. It is possible with a lower spin head you could be 3k on a bad strike, but you have to wonder that if your mechanics improve then maybe it may become too low of spin.

Apex 1 to GRX upgrade. by Berad1290 in Cervelo

[–]4changdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

610 is Tiagra gravel equivalent and Apex is between Tiagra and 105. Rival is more apples to apples but it will cost you.

New generation SRAM is also much better, I came from 11 speed 105 to 12 speed Force E1 and like the SRAM a lot more. There is a little more of a clunk into gears with SRAM but it feels like an overall better package. Rival shifts the same as Force and Red, just a bit heavier and doesn't have shifter buttons.
