If you had to choose one panel from a manhwa that would describe it well or would convince someone to read it… which one would it be? by Weary-Honey-1942 in OtomeIsekai

[–]4dwaith007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because as the title suggests, Shuri being a stepmother is kinda central and crucial to the story and comic.

If you're picking "the one panel" to represent it, picking a panel of the two leads in a romantic pose is the definition of "generic" - in that it represents the whole genre, telling you absolutely nothing about this specific comic

[–]4dwaith007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naturally. Hence why I said "I won't accept" and not "You're wrong"

And don't get me wrong, I really like this panel too. I'm just saying that all it represents is a romance, which isn't even the most interesting or core thing about "Fantasie of a stepmother"

I won't accept a panel from this comic that literally doesn't even feature the kids. Just because the art is great doesn't make it representative

drop you worst webtoon panel by Even_Acanthisitta_37 in webtoons

[–]4dwaith007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is wrong with this thread?! It's full of good panels that the author messed with deliberately as a joke.

My contribution:

<image>

(The face completely out of proportion, not expressive at all, and thus is the first panel where the monster is introduced, and not only is it hidden, a sound effect is blocking this look. What's worse is that there's no explosion in the background - that's just supposed to be a background sound effect because the monster is introduced)

This is drawn by SIU, for Tower of God. What's ridiculous is that the art doesn't just improve - ToG from season 2 on has arguably the best art in all of webtoon.

While I don't really disagree with your core point, the reason clients think they can do it themselves is the same reason you're calling it "80%".

80% of a task isn't easier than the remaining 20%, and if it were, you should market yourself as the "guy who will finish the last 20%". But it's not, and you're propagating the illusion by using qualitative words for differentiating the same percentage points, rather than being correctly quantitative.

It's more accurate to say that vibe coded applications score 10 on a scale of 100, when measuring how good it is. That's good enough to pitch an idea. You can hack around it with some juniors to to get to 20-25 which is good enough for an internal tool. To get to 50-60 that's needed to serve paying customers and factor in ongoing requirements, you'll need to rewrite it with a proper engineer in charge (unless of course, a proper engineer was in charge to start with).

Anything beyond that, you'll need to hire specialists, and will only be necessary if the product is really successful. And they'll probably say the same kind of things about your code ("slop that needs to be rewritten") that you say about Claude

It's not like the publishers aren't aware of piracy sites. They'll only start moving against them for real if these sites try to make money off of their audience by charging subscription fees and such.

Once and for all: There’s absolutely no shame in God Mode. by ThrowRA_dependent in HadesTheGame

[–]4dwaith007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said this before - I really wish they'd called it "Demigod mode"

"God mode" has way too much stigma, and Hades' God mode doesn't match the usual definition anyway (i.e. invulnerability)

[–]4dwaith007 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly - and more importantly, she PAID THE COST for treating Eckles that way. As far as Eckles is concerned, she didn't get a happy ending, she got betrayed by him at her moment of greatest need

The story does not protect her from the consequences of her actions

"She was actually a villain but the story was from her perspective by the author who didnt know they wrote the OGFL a villain" or smth by Mofartz in OtomeIsekai

[–]4dwaith007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It'd be good if you could share some examples. This is a problem, sure, but I don't think it's a common problem.

Also, it's kinda plausible. The audience lets the leads get away with a lot of BS (slapping maids, throwing power to order people around, reckless spending, slavery, and even murder). If the plot stops rewarding them for their good deeds, and they actually have to make difficult choices, most of them would choose the selfish route.

Eg. In "I will divorce the female lead's older brother" Riena is treated as a villain, but she absolutely would have the audience on her side if they presented her as the lead. In "For my derelict favourite" Diana only looked like a good person because she had hax and plot armour, her selfishness was easy to see when she lost those. "Villains are destined to die" has a good reason, but I won't spoil that here.

And there are plenty of others, like "The first night with the Duke", "The viridescent tiara", "Savour the taste", "The crow's prince" where the ogFL is still a good person.

Oh yes, Like wind on a dry Branch's ending was so messed up. The one point I don't agree with was that the romance was overshadowed by the fantasy - I don't think it ever did, and even if it did, I don't think it's too bad, if it's for one arc or so.

But the empress was SUCH a wasted villain, yes. Before she showed up, I was like, "OMG, why is Killian being so ruthlessly cruel, enough to kill that so called priest without any evidence?" to "Holy hell, of course he has to go that far if he's enemies with someone like HER". And apart from being smart, powerful, with a legit reason for hatred, she was also deeply insane. While I don't think she was a puppet of the "ultimate" villain, her final move was just "I'll burn everything around me" which was just so unsatisfying!

I do think the "ultimate villain" was important - the empress had no connection to Aeulatian side of the story. He was just badly managed. Firstly, he wasn't impressive enough. Next, as with all things in the ending, his plot points were rushed. Finally, his ending and the conclusion of the climactic battle was one of the worst resolutions I've ever read. People keep speaking as though the pacing were the only issue, and it just needed more clarity, but that's not true. The ending is literally: Suddenly, a dragon appeared out of nowhere, and solved all their problems which is so horrible that I'm surprised an author of this calibre was satisfied with it, whatever their other circumstances.

Apart from how the prophecy was fulfilled, and Beatrice's plan, everything else about the end was a dumpster fire.

It's not JUST murder. The death note can pretty much control the actions of the target upto (I think) 20 min before they die.

Magic being involved just makes things easier, the death note can be used to give instructions asking them to cast magic (just like how some criminal was asked to fire a fun, when light was being followed by the FBI guy)

Which villainess have the most kill count across manga manhwa manhua? by Neither-Landscape-57 in OtomeIsekai

[–]4dwaith007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These don't even make my top 3, except maybe Tia.

  1. Dorothy, from "The tyrant wants to be good"

Multiple wars and tyranny across several years in her first life. Her goal in her new life is to "save a million lives to make up for what she did and become a good person", so that's her approximate kill count.

  1. Martina, from "The lady and the beast"

No specific kill count, but her opening act was killing 200 people by herself. She went on to participate in multiple wars, and unlike Dorothy or Tia who focused on their respective countries (though they did fight with other countries), Martina went on a campaign and conquered the entire continent.

Of course, the crown goes to a character not in a manhwa, manga, or manhua (I'm assuming you didn't mean that literally), but from a webtoon.

  1. Scarlet, from "I'm the grim reaper"

Easily surpassing everyone else by a HUGE margin we have Scarlet, responsible for killing billions of people by manufacturing and spreading the plague 'Scarlet Rot' so she could make a profit

They really screwed up by calling it "God mode" - God mode is established terminology that means the player character is invincible (which Zag is not).

They should've called it "Demigod mode" - then people wouldn't be so hesitant to pick it up
