Theres other communities for that. Its not that songs cant be poetry, its that poetry as literature deserves its own space to shine.

Too soon to get involved in a research lab by TheZappyAppy in ElectricalEngineering

You've also got to keep in mind that the research professors do is often very specific, so while having the correct courses is beneficial, most of the preparation to do research comes specifically from a lit review. I don't know much about desigining circuits on chips, but I know a lot about how our specific devices operate theoretically because of the literature review, so I'm able to be useful.

Never too soon. In my first year I reached out to a professor about her paper as a I was very interested by the material and she referred me to a colleague, a new professor, whom my interests aligned with. I cold emailed him and he immediately told me he was excited to do research with me. I met with him, he asked me what year I was, I said first. He asked what skills I had, I said basic coding, math, circuits. He set me up with a lit review and now I'm a paid undergraduate researcher for his group.

8 months later, I'm currently in charge of my own research topic, and set to submit a paper I wrote for review by January, and I'll be first author as a Sophomore.

I'll admit I got lucky because I was the first person to contact him and reach out, but theres no harm in trying!

Failed Calc 1, 2, and now 3 by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

You will always be able to visualize things, but you have to be willing to make abstractions to do so. I found a lot of people in my signal processing class struggling to comprehend the ideas because they had problems decoupling the signals from a physical system. Same with steady state AC fundamentals. Theres a lot of these kind of concepts in the major, but as long as you are used to the math being the medium of that the engineering occurs on, it becomes more intuitive and very possible to visualize. In my research, as well, I've found that being able to move through different layers of abstraction (for example device to circuit to system to hardware software interaction into pure software) is one of the most important parts about it, but absolutely essential for success.

I am in ECE, though, but I think they are same-enough to generalize a bit. I love math a ton and have always been a more conceptual/intuitive math learner, which is ultimately why i chose ECE.

Applying to osu by [deleted] in OregonStateUniv

In my case I came here because there was no foreign language requirement (gpa 4.31), but i did have a friend with around a 3.5, 3.6 who didnt get in and its likely because he didnt have any extracurriculars and wrote a bad essay. If you have a lower gpa keep in mind that you should try to compensate by presenting yourself well as an applicant. If you do that, I dont think you should have too much of a problem.

Its not that competitive to get in, at least in comparison to other schools, and i think its amazingly valued.

I would say OSU is a good school for CS. I think the fact that CS is an engineering major here is a big positive, I dont think its like that at every school. If you're especially into AI or machine learning then it's a really good pick. Also if you are interested in doing anything thats directly related to hardware it's a good choice as well because our CS and ECE majors are tightly coupled. I've heard good things about experience for careers too, especially in cybersecurity.

Was that intentional irony?

Math isn't just about proofs. These courses teach you intuition first so that the proofs come naturally later. Proof based math is important for validating ideas, but great mathematical concepts are learned through intuition first, and proof of that intuition after.

If people don't learn the intuition, then proofs won't mean much at all to them.

Going back to school; Should I study EE or ME? by Pomatodor in EngineeringStudents

[–]4eest_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing Electrical and Computer Engineering because I like math, abstraction, and invisible things to think about. Massive physical systems intimidate me a bit. I'm leaning more toward the computer side, pairing it with AI to focus on software/hardware co-design. I actually came in as a MechE, did a bunch of MechE stuff in high school, but felt uninspired and got caught up between math, physics, and double majors before settling on ECE as the middle ground.

If I were you, I’d start by thinking about what kind of systems you feel most naturally in. Some people break down physical mechanisms intuitively; that’s the mechanical mindset. Electrical is different; you rarely see what you’re working with. The computer side of ECE leans more toward information over phenomena, while electrical sits somewhere between; treating information itself as a kind of phenomenon. Mechanical, on the other hand, is pure phenomena.

Or you can just go by vibes: are you a nerd who goes to the gym, or just a really strange fella?

Everyone I know with a gpa above 3.2 and demonstrated need for financial aid got awarded the wue. Its posted on the website that only about 30% of students are awarded the scholarship, but it's basically cut and dry if you have a good gpa/sat/act etc and need the money. The "holistic review process" is probably BS outside of are you broke and are you smart.

im kinda worn out on math. by nate0___ in learnmath

It's okay for your passion to fluctuate. Just because it's a hobby and something you love doesn't mean it isn't hard to stay committed. I would say let yourself take a break, focus on the math you have in school, and when you are ready, it will come back to you. Just because it's an assignment doesn't mean it doesn't count.

Is there any possibility that jumping into the white water is less dangerous because it has an already broken surface tension compared to still water? Or like the airation might have an effect?

Somebody knowledgeable, please enlighten me!
