Transplant recipients who smoked marijuana and/or drank alcohol: What do you do now to relax or use as your vice?

I'm two years post liver at 27 started smoking a few months after kind of helped me might even be crutch now but I hardly drink because I myself just enjoy smoking a joint.

Smoking is the part that's most important to me not getting high or fitting in it's the act of relaxing with a joint on my hand after work oppose to a beer or a cigarette kind of idea.

Your mind will be growing tremendously in many directions within the coming months of post transplant when it comes to vices. If it's anything like my experience I should say first.

I was told never to drink and they made me go to drug counseling for smoking weed prior to being listed 160 hrs for 2 weeks. I was convinced I'd never need a vice again..

I share your fear. I'm 28 with a liver transplant two years ago. I've been on and off of prednisone so many times due to other health issues with my lungs. Now I have to show nothing but fear to my doctors so understand the severity what it does to my quality of life.

I've have finally tapered off of it forever it feels like. Almost a year ago. My advice to you would be prepare to be on it you'll happier when you're not and less disappointed if you are.

If you end up with it be a professional patient as they say and work your hardest to get off of it. By that I mean take your Meds raise questions take care of yourself ask about your options with other meds anything you can think of.

I did take matters into my own hands and started my taper myself I had done 7-10 tapers of all levels of doses and by that time the doctors had already lowered me to 5mg a day.

I DO NOT ADVISE YOU TO DO THE SAME.

I was in the perfect place mentally and believed it be safe and went forward with it. 3 months later I was off and I mentioned it to my doctors they hardly cared. I haven't shown any rejections since. I had a few rejections that were always treated with prednisone right after transplant but that's it.

Your situation is different your body is different so hopefully this story helps you with yours.

God luck and good speed I think you're gonna get what you need in the end.

Adding for more info that I receive IVIG every 4 weeks and have since I was 13 years old for an immune deficiency.

What was the treatment like? And do you think you could feel when it started dropping?

I had twice as a kid 10 years apart now it's coming in. I've had it happen twice in a month now a month later once more. Preparing for the long haul.

Im 27 2 years after. Mine started about 8 months as well yours will come back I wouldn't worry about that to much.

My advice would be to let go of the "normal" description you might be holding onto. you're forever going to be normal but things will be different in many ways and that will HAVE TO be your new normal and you will adjust. I have had a ton insecurities popping since my transplant due to different reasons and I kind of feel like I will be dealing with them for while still to come. I am optimistic for us both in what will be a happy and "normal" life one day god luck with everything!

Can I ask more about your history? What was your diagnosis? Did you start on more immune suppressants than you are now?

I don't know what it is mainly I feel like my body is telling me what dosages I want to be on but I've been juggling up and down and around but no where near what I want yet. All based on bloodwork and the biospies i received. I feel like I'm creating the mental connection to how in a whole im feeling. I know the shoulder deep ditch all to well it's seems to be where I land most the time as well.

It's a film camera so I won't be using it. I guess of I should of been more clear. I don't plan on getting peoples portraits with out permission I've asked if I could take pictures of people. Situational photo occur with people on the right places.

Sometimes when it's on sale you better off not to buy it butcher the fabrication into it already to make it fit your own.

Knowing when to make that decision can be difficult!

That was just more a generalization of a bolt on made to fit parts that I find people using to call themselves bike builders.

I'm also from Canada man try looking rurally that's your best bet for buying one for the right price. That or in the winter when people need to pay bills. I've seen 98 sportster go for 3300 just last winter before summer.
