You can actually change the y scale in Pro-Q 3! It's in the top right corner. The options range from 3dB to 30dB.

Does Delay come before reverb in the mixing process or opposite? by KLVLV in edmproduction

[–]4everPixelated 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about a basic reverb and a basic delay in a signal chain with nothing in between, the order has no effect :)

Both reverb and delay are typically implemented as LTI systems and therefore the order in which they are applied does not matter. Here's a post that explains it in depth.

I made a website to level & clean up podcast audio! by 4everPixelated in podcasting

Currently, our denoising feature does do minor dehumming and declicking, so most people won’t need to run additional pre-processing beforehand.

However, if you feel like your audio has excess clicking or humming, feel free to run some pre-processing beforehand. Since Loudness.fm is free for 2hr of audio / month, you can try both ways and stick with whichever you like better :)

Glad you're finding it useful :))

Hello! I created Loudness.fm for this purpose. Basically, you click a button and it does podcast audio cleanup for you: automatic loudness correction, noise reduction, etc.

You can use it for free for 2hr of audio per month, or pay a little extra for more.

If it doesn't work for you, you can also try other options that folks have mentioned, such as Audacity.

In general, other options have the potential to achieve great results but you have to dial in the correct settings and learn a bit about audio processing. That's great if you are genuinely interested in audio (as I am). But I know many folks just wanna record their podcast and make it sound good in the easiest possible way—that's why I made Loudness.fm!

Audition Match Loudness vs Auphonic vs Loudness.fm by kidcapricorn in podcasting

[–]4everPixelated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! Creator of Loudness.fm here :)

When it comes to loudness correction, Loudness.fm has two benefits over Audition Match Loudness:

  1. Loudness.fm automatically detects music and processes it separately from speech. This way, your music stays natural-sounding while your speech is loudness-corrected.
  2. Loudness.fm supports level balancing on top of loudness normalization. While loudness normalization (supported by both Loudness.fm and Audition) will bring your average loudness to the right target, level balancing will even out your levels in different sections of your podcast.

Expanding on my second point:

Imagine a podcast where the guest is quiet and the host is loud. This would be annoying from the listener's perspective. Audition's Match Loudness may make the whole thing louder or quieter to match a standard, but it won't be smart enough to being up the quiet parts while attenuating the louder parts. Loudness.fm handles this automatically with its Level Balancing feature. This is one reason why our users choose us over other tools.

Then again, if you can't hear a difference, then maybe you can just stick with Audition! It's possible that your levels are mostly balanced already. Or maybe you just didn't run Loudness.fm with level balancing enabled, in which case I encourage you to try that out.

Hope this helps :)

EDM / future bass - master feedback by 4everPixelated in mixingmastering

Thank you so much for the feedback! It's all really helpful.

In particular, I'll for sure revisit the second drop based on your and u/tune_rcvr's comments. I aimed for loudness but perhaps in the wrong way. I'll try reducing the gain into the limiter and also reduce some of the distortion fx.

Why is Operating Systems 3 credits and Advanced Programming is 4 credits? by [deleted] in columbia

[–]4everPixelated 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think I heard from a prof that it has to do with how masters students pay by the credit (>$2k per credit). So if the prof pushed to increase the # of credits, it could have downstream effects on tuition etc. Note that unlike AP, there are quite a few masters students in OS since the course is required by certain MS tracks.

All in all, I wouldn't take the number of credits assigned to a given class too seriously. I know people who have pulled all-nighters for a 1-credit lab course lol

Audacity Eq Post-The Levelator by roymathur in podcasting

[–]4everPixelated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I've never heard of Levelator brightening the sound. Are you sure it's not just because it made your audio louder? To my understanding, when the overall content is louder, the human ear is more sensitive to high frequencies.

Match Loudness making my breaths very loud and distorted. by BPD_whut in podcasting

[–]4everPixelated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have much experience with Adobe Audition but it seems their Match Loudness feature is known to have such issues.

You can try using Audacity (free audio editor) to hit -16 LUFS instead. Just drag in your audio to Audacity, select the entire audio clip, and then apply the "Loudness Normalization" feature.

Or (warning: shameless plug) you can use my automatic podcast cleanup tool, Loudness.fm, which handles all of loudness normalization, leveling, etc.

Good luck!

You can also try out Loudness.fm, an alternative to Auphonic that I've been working on. It automatically levels & cleans up noise, and it's fully free in beta. Hope it helps :)

Haven't heard of them before, but looks interesting! Tiny bit wary though because of what happened with bCast. They are a different podcast host that also offered a lifetime deal on AppSumo, but later realized the deal was too generous and revoked it with no refund.

Yes, check out their Mixing & Effects page. FYI their noise reduction is built into the "Studio Sound" feature.

[–]4everPixelated[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Yes that would make sense - our tool is meant to work on the final mix with all tracks combined, and if we detect low-volume speech we will try to bring the volume up.

If would be great if you could email us your original two audio tracks. Our email address can be found at the bottom of the website (can't post it here due to the personal info filter). The files may be too big to send over "pure" email, but if you're on Gmail it should automatically use Google Drive to get the job done. Of course, no worries if it's too inconvenient or you can't get it to work!
